Sorry I only ment when you get off the lift. Because they just about stop. Then are very flat or drop slightly the rise be fore you clear the area just found alot off people draging their board's and skiers crabing it try to get out of the area around the exit of the lift's. No real problem's with the area's you spoke about we tried to keep it pinned and I'm over weight problem solved '
-
The one thing I can not understand and I noticed it alot at Niseko is that when you get off the lift's it's always a up hill.bad enough on skis. The boarder's must hate it a little earth work in summer would make it easy for every one to slide away and clear the areas.

I wouldn't exactly call it a river. Even in Spring you can easily hop across from one bank to the other.
People aroud town said he fell in a river did not go and investigate for my self.

Thanks Roscoe.Mamabear we flew bris-korea-sapporo.it was a really good flight. they put us up in the hyatt and transfured our gear thru it was quite easy and alot more leg room.Dont know if they fly out of perth though.just a thought.Nah..that trip is not accessible on the West Coast.just
I ended up having to book (qantas) PER-SYD. SYD-NRT. NRT-CTS. Seems so illogical, but thats the best I could do.
The more direct Cathay Flight was more than twice the price, and didn't actually save me any time due to a long layover in SIngapore.
I wish they brought back the PER-NRT flight, but with the shakedown of Qantas and build up of JetStar I reckon that route is gone forever.
I'm sure it will be worth it I can not belive how much it snowed while we where there.think it only stopped for 4 hour's on two day's my son's loved it best place so far. The youngest one who doe's not like Japanese food was over joyed I'm still trying to sort that problem out.Trip report comming soon just trying to sort work out first. have agreat trip I'm going to check my lotto ticket and if lucky will be back there.

Without going all nanny state, this is an issue worthy of discussion.
I wonder if the latest fellow was aware of the circumstances of Scotts death?
The old 'information is power' rhetoric holds true in these circumstances.
I have slipped on ice near that bit of water stone cold sober in years gone by, didn't actually fall let alone slip into the water, but it raises your awareness.
Remembering the tragic evolution of Scotts demise, I always make sure that we stay in pairs when we are drinking. Even the guys have had me ram that message down their throats - we do not leave a man behind. I could hardly be angry at Papabear when he waltzed in at 3.30am a few weeks back and I saw the condition of our mate!! He had no choice but to stay and help him find his way home.
But if you were aware that lives had been lost on the walk home when heavily intoxicated in that particular area, and you knew you had to walk past that area...surely you would change your drinking plan a bit. Pair up, grab a cab, or go home a bit less intoxicated and finish the job once you got to your lodge.
I can't help but think this was a case of not knowing, not realising and if he had known perhaps disaster could have been averted.
Fences, warning signs, or education. I don't know whether any have a valid place here or not, but I would think something could be done to improve the outcomes
MB I don't think being aware would make a whole lot of difference. People do silly things when they're drunk. Hell I literally can't remember the amount of times I've stumbled, damn near crawled home after a big night of nomi hodai and karaoke through knee deep snow and blizzard conditions. I'm completely aware of the dangers but hey I had to get home and there was no other way to do it other than walk (taxis shut down for a few hours overnight in Kutchan) and no one else I went out with lived close by,
We walked thru this area heading to Lawson's afew day's before.I did not even know there was a river there.Untill we put two and two together when they where retriving the poor fellow. rip.

Thanks for the advise, the only pair I've been able to try on are some Nordia Sport Machine 80's, they are the only pair in my size in the 8 shops I looked at in Ochanomizu. Apparently all the big sizes sell out almost immediatly. Most shops only carry sizes up to 28.5.
The Sport Machines fitted, they just happen to be twice the price of the Grantours
I remember last year at Goyra one of the shop's in the plaza had a large range of boot's and price seemed ok worth a look if that's where you are heading
-
I have a pair of Nordica sport 8 have had them for 3 year's love them but tried 4 different boot's before chooseing them. As Jynnx said many different type's they are one thing I wouid not buy off the net You could spend all your time and $ at a boot fitter trying to get them right not much of a bargain then
-
Fantastic photo's. waiting on the next session so clear it would be hard to top the last one's.You should be doing trip report's for ski mag's. After you have shown us first of course.
