I was on Singapore airlines once (economy) and I didn't like the either of the two choices of food they had for their meal. So, they brought me this fat, thick, juicy steak on a huge white plate with sides from first class! The passengers next to me were sooo jealous!!
Oh yeah but seriously if you need to shake down some weight from your luggage, yeah wear your damn ski boots too, seriously!! They really can't do jack about it. They might not like it but TS! Shove your other shoes down your ski pants for good measure and go do some shopping!! he he.

If your luggage is a little over weight you know you can wear all your clothes, even if you ware 10 layers doesn't matter. If they don't fit over the top you can stuff 'em up under your shirt etc. Then when on the plane just take them off. they can't refuse you or stipulate how much clothes you can ware or the weight of them, nor can the stipulate that if you yourself weigh over a certain amount you will have to pay an excess fee but they were looking at doing this a little while ago.

Yes the external drive is the key, firewire is slow!! Should be using usb to transfer from your camera, select the external drive to save your video to. When you get a chance duck into the apple store, make an appointment online with an imovie tech, they can show you. It's quite simple but they know a few other tricks too.
-
FCP is expensive like you said, just mentioned that coz there is a 'gizmo' well, software, in this case, to tackle the camera shake. I have imovie 09 and it has most of the great features FCP has including, smooth clip motion 'stabilization' and colour etc.. FCP is more geared towards professional commercial production.
If you wish to do production on the go, if you work in the industry or whatever, the macbook pro coupled with an external drive would work perfectly. Without the external however you'd be 'up the creek' trying to do anything with HD.

I don't know about altitude but the above mentioned sony HXR-MC1 can have the crap shaken out of it and it will still record because it records in solid-state to the memory stick and not to a hard drive. You should click on that Link above, I'll check out the other camera's too but I doubt they would have full HD 1920 x 1080 capability. As for gizmos that can fix stability, take a look at 'Final cut pro' and get your self a mac. You will still need to keep the camera reasonably steady but they can make a recording on a handy cam being held while running look as if its on rails. Really amazing stuff!!
I'm sure they will sell helmet mount attachments as an accessory with this camera.
Like I said before, anyone stopping in tokyo, or in tokyo atm mind stopping in at sony and let us know if they have this thing.. That would be very much appreciated.
-
Any one in tokyo at the moment or will be there in the next week or so that might just be able to pop into the sony store and make an enquiry about this particular camera?? Do it for yourself, me and everyone else on the forum.
Cheers!!

wow thats a good trick, get work to pay for it.. nice one!!

Sweet, be in touch then

yeah thats it, gonna hit up tokyo first coz that way I wont be so bummed leaving the snow for a look see in the city!
-
my brother is leaving from perth on the 17th next month if thats not too late? You wont be able to exchange before hand though he works fifo and gets back on the 17th. let me know if you keen.
-
maybe I'll just spend one night there instead.. Snow snow snow
Yeah one night and one and a half days, enough for a walk around, bit of a look see, maybe go out that night.. Check out the night life, something like that.
-
Yeah, I'd rather the snow over anything else but I'm gonna add a couple extra days rather than take, so I can check out Tokyo. Unless the general conception is don't bother. If people think Tokyo is worth a look please speak up and say why, same if you think otherwise. Remember It's not that I wouldn't wana check it out it's time away from the snow. Never been so, I'd really like to hear some thoughts.
Cheers!

yeah cheers for that, I did actually see that already but not before I made this post... Anyway, anyone know if there is a Sony shop at Narita airport? I wana pick that item up before I hit the snow!!
-
Yeah Ezorisu's post was more on the money towards the response I was after.. Sorry Tubby but you were a little unclear and a little confusing, with your first post.
I understood your conversion "1 UK Pound = roughly 130yen" I know what the AUS JPY exchange is but when you wrote "130 yen over here would barely get you the can of coke" wasn't a definitive answer, well not for me anyway, either it does or it doesn't, don't know how big your margin is with 'barely' but in your last post its a definite 130 yen for a can of coke.
So it's a little cheaper over there but not by much. Sorry if that comes across bad, I don't mean it to be, I'm appreciative of the help, just wanted to let you know where the translation was lost.
Cheers!

Anyone reckon a stop over in Tokyo for a couple days after a week in Niseko is worth it?.. Maybe I could hire a GTR35 and take it for a bash he he that would be cool!
-
I heard that Sony are bringing out or have brought out..? a 'full HD' helmet cam, it's a complete unit, meaning you can't just attach it to your digital camera like an analog 'bullet' cam. Haven't seen it, just been into the sony shop in Sydney and they said they have been shown this by a rep so their saying it should be out over in Japan already.
Anyone got one or know if it is out? That would be great.
Cheers!
-
yeah, ahh, that doesn't really help me much mate, sorry. Any aussies able to help with this one..?

I dunno if that'd fly on another airline but yeah worked for me on Singapore. Tell ya what though Singapore has the most comfortable economy class seating I've been on and the roomiest.
