  1. Oh, no... Hope you are ok. Knee injury is something I really don´t want to get. I stretch and rotate a lot. So far, it has held up countless bad landings.

Being light weight and flexible sure do help,

Shoulders are another story. I have constant pain these days. Just annoying. Trying to avoid surgery but ...

I´m getting older I think. Grinds a bit.

3- 4 hours boarding is enough for me these days.

  2. I think they're a bit of a historical relic and that a lot of them should be groomed away in keeping with customer demand.

I agree . But some skiers really do like moguls. It´s not all that different from slaloms, so maybe have one course dedicated to it.

I think some people in Japan are stuck in the past regarding what people want out of skiing. The "spend a fortune on lessons and badge tests" technical approach is increasingly old fashioned.

    This raises some questions.

I think you do need some technical approach in how to use your ski and approach moguls. Modern carving skis are not all that good for moguls IMO (I tried)

In my case, I still have my 2m ski and don´t have a problem with it. Sure, something shorter is easier for moguls , but for me to use new skis would require me to get instruction - so, am I caught up in the past for my preference in ski design? Maybe, but I really don´t want to change my style and pay for instructions.

By the way, missus and I had a chat about would we like to go on skis for a laugh. For her, it´s a thing she enjoyed as a kid and grew out. Probably that applies to me too.

  3. See what I mean when I say that it´s important to know what´s under the snow ! You can dig a snow pit and discuss which layer can slide, but... missing out on something, aren´t we?

Grassy hill are easier to slide, and where do you get that mostly? On piste and slack.

Ever wonder why some ski-jo leaves tree stumps and logs along the lift line? It´s not like they don´t want you to go there.

  4. As an old skool skier in Japan, moguls are just an unavoidable condition. Once you get the hang of it, it isn´t all that difficult if you approach it in a certain way. The ultimate is straight lining it, your body doesn´t divert from the fall line ... It´s cool to watch this stuff, but when you think about it, this is all artificial terrain. In a way, it´s like park ...

Narrow ski runs plus lots of people with most average skiers transverse gives you moguls. We used to dream about European Alps. Can´t really dig the hype about most Japanese ski-jo , ie) Nozawa, Naeba, Shiga . I am lucky (in terms of snowboarding) I now live in Europe.

As a snowboarder, moguls are crap. Powder (and carving) is what gives me that feel that skis don´t give me. Skis are versatile for sure to move around, walk, and anyone can pick it up easily. So why do I snowboard? Like I said, it´s not for moguls.

  5. Just purchased a nice RFID safe leather wallet and an RFID safe pouch (to fit a couple of passports into) for my Dad for his birthday next week :D

Thanks for the awesome idea sparking!!

Now I shall have to start looking for one for me.

I had not considered the Passport one, but it was on the same site/page as the wallet I purchased.

They now have chips in them too - SO easy to steal identities with these. Why not stick them into a handy little wallet that shields that info from prying eyes - can't harm, and can only increase your electronic security.

    Good Idea!

I´d get on to it, too.

    Where did you get yours?

  6. Back to the Vid. What would you have done if it were you ?

I would have got out on the roof earlier.

Reasoning - 2 ways to die, you can drown by being trapped in the car and go under (another car might push it under) .. or crushed if you are out and fall in the water.

I´d take my chance on the roof and see if I can hop onto something bigger passing by.

But as soon as I see the rapids, oh oh .. I´ll drag out my seat belt out of the window as a hand hold.

  7. MO I´m really impressed that you notice it and have deep consideration about the Japanese language. Only if the Japanese themselves do that they would be speaking correct Japanese . I think the language is in decline for the last 30 years. We were told so as teenagers ourselves.

It´s very rare and with due respect. Good on you. Maybe as a non native speaker, you question things that native speakers don´t, and won´t have an answer to.

I think you and Bobby12 are one of the few who understands Japanese at this level, and in a way, goes deeper than elementary school level.

  8. TBH, everone would understand what it means by the context. Only an American would have an accident and sue for compo ;)

It just doesn´t sound good you know.

    I would write

    Mochi-agetekara

    (Mochi- ageta nochi)

    (Mochi- ageta ato)

I think they are doing it to save some hiragana stickers

But (i write this as p.s) the grammer book is correct.

Now it makes sense to me. I never looked at it that way.

    Cheers

  9. Mamabear,

I know that feeling it´s gonna wash out and it doesn´t.

    It´s a bit unsettling,

I think it is a compromise. Boards that turn on a whim ( short radius ) tend to do that on higher speed. They have deeper side cuts, so the edge doesn´t hold very well t the end of the turn... but the side curve on the board helps the initial turning.

  10. I´ve noticed that after a couple of years.

Also, why buy a Twin when you don´t ride switch !? Doesn´t make sense.

This applies to me too and has got me thinking, why do I keep buying true twins when I know a directional twin would better for my riding style? I guess it's a combination of sticking with what you know and harbouring an annual desire to improve my switch-riding and buttering/ground tricks, all of which are crap! That said, I think I'll be heading over to the directional twin camp next time, probably with a Ride Berzerker or Slackcountry, as referred to earlier in this post. :D

Mick, my switch used to suck big. But I have one big tip that improved switch riding without even practicing it on snow. Get a longboard (skate) and ride switch on it. I know it doesn´t make sense but I ride my longboard switch. I find it easier to push on my left foot. I use it to just get around the ´hood, quick shopping and stuff ...

I´ve noticed that after a couple of years I´m going switch on snowboard without that feeling `right, I´m gonna practice ...´

I can´t ride short skates but I have respect for those who can, and I reckon it´s a lot easier for them to snowboard and go park.

I think the reason for me to ride directional is because they have a more setback hole pattern. Better in powder, however, Dupraz challenges that notion and hence, I am interested to demo.

  11. Good move mamabear!

I was thinking about you and wanted to say, Don´t buy the first car you see when you go shopping ...remember that from looking for our first (used) car?

Also, why buy a Twin when you don´t ride switch !? Doesn´t make sense.

Also if you went OK with the 155, you can easily go 157, 158... won´t make that much difference. Impressed you got the hang of it in a day!

Bet you are thinking you shudda went longer eairlier, huh ? much more stable in high speed ...

The trend on the binding is that the backs are getting lower. If your boots are stiff enough for your liking, you won´t need additional stiffness coming from the high back.

Talking about the Van encore, my missus took out the reveved (changed wire shorter) encore and said it is too soft for her now lol. Funny that. I know that a women specific boot makes sense because the calf muscle is lower but she prefers stiffness over that particular fit.

Ah, forgot to say.. Can you get your hands on a Jones Hovercraft there?

  12. It was from my dad and mum.

It´s quite sobering when you hear about walking in Tokyo and seeing a river full of charred body, no water in it for anyone to escape the heat, but just charred bodies replacing the river ... or burned bodies lying in a fan pattern, all trying to escape from a building.

    A good fight ?

Anyone who was ACTUALLY there will tell you different.

I heard that the only meat you can get was cutting up your enemy and feeding off from them on the Islands of SE. Asia.

I really do respect people and think them brave when they can tell a story and confront their feeelings - guilt, reconcile, whatever.

Probably some people deal with it talking openly, some shutting up.
