  1. still cant decide...

and really its not the consoles themselves, since theyre much of a muchness with the PS4 squeeking it.

Its two really stupid things, i really stupidly want. And each console offers one of them. Well, actually neither console offers any of them, and probably wont before the end of this cycle.

Vita integration: How cool is it that you can sign in to your account and start playing your game from home on a handheld with a modified control system anywhere in the world on your handheld? I freaking LOVE this idea!

The current reality is of course you cant. You can play it within a certain distance of your PS4. So your kids want to watch the telly, you want to play max payne 19, et voila! no problems! (once they get it sorted out). But... THE FUTUREEEEEE!!!!!!! Surely theyll crack this nut as internet speeds keep bumping up year by year. Why cant you just stream the basics anywhere with wifi?

    And with the XBOX:

illumiroom plus kinect sensor/modelling integration. The concept of ryse was sweet. Take the kinect, turn it into an actual game. Somewhere they thought, nah, screw that, and now its just all controller bullshit. Bleh. I want lawnmower man!

Theres no chance in hell that this will happen this generation. It probably wont even happen next generation (or rather might appear half way through like the kinect did with the 360), but in my brain all i see are three things:

    1. Illumiroom mapping out my mass effect game all around me.

    2. Anne Hatahways boobs in Alice (3d),

    3. POR... wait! i mean er... gaming something something.

It really pisses me off that

First, our lifespan is about to be possibly doubled.

    Second, fembots are coming!

Third, lawnmower man gaming is around the corner.

As i see it, its all coming just in time for me to hit my 60s, and die a natural death in my 70s too old, tired and fed up like im supposed to! I CURSE THE FUTURE!!! Where the **** is my hoverboard?

  2. No ways! if it was 2012 i might be tempted, but o-ni-no-ni-no no. Plus it was your fault that i heard about how awesome backcountry were at shipping it over, so you owe me the cash for a riot that was too small for me and id have never bought unless some crafty scotsman told me that you could just ask them for the staff price to ship abroad to japan! :grandpa:

PS how the hell are you gonna sell that board if you keep saying stuff like its too squirmy on flats and harpack. At least qualify it with something or other about how you bought the wrong size, or it was just too stiff for you. Dont be calling its core design flawed. The first rule of swapshop is that its always you, never the tech!

  3. Camel toe by bataleon is one of those boards im sorta kinda interested in. Id have to demo it though after the last one felt too unpredictable and squirrely for me. Its around teh same price point as the slasher if i remember right. Its TBT with all the pow trimmings. No way in hell would i ridethe ltd edition though :) Bataleon, as the years go on i realise, is a brand i want to like, but am struggling to do so :)

  4. Im a gamer. I LOVE games. Achievements, (for them that dont know), are just pointless little trophies you acquire by doing silly tasks while playing the game anyway. They dont help you beat the game, they just say you achieved something. I reckon we should have a list of our own. In fact i think this should be a feature, its *that* GENIUS!!! Only problem is im not funny enough to come up with the title names, nor imaginitive enough to think of achievements themselves. Kinda sucky start to the thread, but the idea is too good to not push it.

But heres a few to get started:

    1. Can you switch my Gopro On?: Hit up Niseko and Hakuba in a single season

    2. Insomnia... (I cant gets no sleep!): Spend a night in the Onsen near Gala Yuzawa Station

    3. Innaganoitsdeeper: Ride the following: Hakuba (any), Nozawa, Shiga Kogen, Kijimadaira, Ryuoo, Sugadaira, Madarao,

    4. Napolenums big white Harse: Ride all the main resorts at Happo1, 47/goryu, Iwatake, Tsugaike, Norikura, and Cortina.

    5. Dr Livingstone I presume?: Ride all four areas in Sugadaira in a single day using only public transport AND completing the epic traverse from pine peak 1 and 2 (both directions).

    6. G...g...g.....g..g.g..ggg..granview (Open all hours!): Visit the World Famous Mt Granview resort and actually pay to ride it.

    7. Mondaysgoingtohurt: Take a night bus to a resort on Friday night then return on Monday morning before work.

    8. No sleep caffeine de sampler: Try every coffee in the the vending machines at Suwako rest/truck stop on the Chuo expressway.

    9. Meat Meet echineko.

    10. Helis-a-poppin: Catch a ride on the Tsugaiki heli-ski operation.

    11. Are we there, Yeti?: Ride the lifts, enjoy the queues, use the noobs as an obstacle course! RIDE (near) Mt. FUJI at the infamous Snow Town Yeti

    12. The Rough Rambler: Gnarly Hike Kandatsu Kogen

  5. yeah. Had to teach 6 classes today. Was kinda hoping someone would take sympathy on me and send me home, but its not like Japan where you just stick on a face mask and pretend to be dizzy/sweaty and youll get odaijini's all day. No no, there must be some other secret code the chinese use to explicate that although they dont appear that sickly, theyre clearly too sick to be standing in front of kids trying to teach for 6 lessons on the bounce. The extra annoying thing (from a blaggit perspective) is that no matter what, around half way through the class you kinda feel better just because youre in it and you might as well (psychosomatic) get through it. So it DOES look like youre putting it on. Which of course is kinda true. Once youre there, you suck it up after all.

  6. i broke my food poisoning virginity last night. it turns out, and i did not know this, that you can vomit with such force that you invoke newtons third law. It was like having a fire hose attached to my mouth. Only got 4 waves, so the rest is still lurking about giving me the flu, so i suspect the next wave is out the other end. I need a soft and gentle gambaru!

  7. in a word, no. Craigslist is really your only shot. Here isnt all that effective. Or at least it hasnt been for me, tubby, and mick. We've all tried shifting boards here, theyre still sitting on theirs... but that might be because we're kinda the market for those boards, so unless its swap shop they aint going anywhere. Beacons and avi gear is slightly different. I did offload my beacon. But it was mega cheap. Which is another thing: Despite the reality of what you pay to get your gear in Japan, you will still be expected to sell it at or below US second hand prices if you want to move it.

So dirt cheap. Or get a friend to move it on yahoo auctions. But dont expect much there either. My Slasher got 25,000, the riot got 12K, a BRAND NEW capita SMF got 10k. I did try to get fair market value on them, but it was mid-late season and that obviously helped scupper things.

  8. :) Im busy teaching classes yo! 28/week innit. What you just had was my one and only gap class in the whole week. The rest of the week its 5 minute breaks or a lunch time spent in saizeria. And yes, that was a very accurate translation. Well, to some extent. Its not you SHOULD, its that you will invariably buy more boards the longer you ride. Its annoying. We all do it and we all hate doing it. And its especially true those first 3-5 years where the stoke is super high. After that you kinda settle into your boards a bit.
  9. No misunderstandings :)

In addition can i argue that thats a side point anyway. Objectively someone with the OPs experience will be happy on just about any board that fits him because he'll be stoked as shit on japan snow and getting to grips with more tricky terrain/techniques anyway, and you can learn that on just about any board designed and manufactured in the last decade AT LEAST. Certainly within the last 7 or 8 years.

But thats a totally different tale and not one person on this site doesnt have their preferences and wouldnt want those preferences to be respected or brought out so they could figure out what they wanted in a snowboard (even though what they should want is pretty much a simple directional board with camber, the right size, and a nice medium flex) when they bought their first, second or third stick. Everyone knows that tech is overplayed and getting the right board doesnt magically make you a better snowboarder, then again we also know that some boards work better for what we like doing and we feel more comfortable with them. None of us after all went into a shop and grabbed the first board on the rack that measured up to our chin. And part of that is because we see it as a long term investment (and then almost always 'upgrade' it the following year anyway when we decide we want something different and our 1 year new board no longer matches what we thought we wanted to do because it hasnt magically made us a better snowboarder after all... even though we told ourselves from day 1 that it wouldnt do this (see above)). But mainly its because we have some idea of our preferences or can at least work them out after about fify or so days riding.

Then again, at that point we cut off things because we just kinda suck at them and so dont practice them - i suck at rails. I dont ride rails. Ergo i suck at them. So why would i want to buy a board that makes riding rails easier?

So when you get right down to it, you could literally do exactly what i said above. Go to a shop, pick the first board in your size range, ride it for the rest of your life, and still end up with the same results: youd be good at some things and rubbish at others.

  10. The whole bataleon line got a reworking in 2012. Its not a big deal, its still the omni and its still going to feel similar. But one of the big things were the backseat inserts and the extra kick on the nose TBT. It basically tuned it SLIGHTLY away from being a good charger board into a good charger board with some tweaks for float. Its not huge, its still the omni which is why im NOT attacking for not mentioning, but it still needs to be clarified :)

  11. Theres a shop in Tokyo on the fourth floor of the snowboard street (near Jimbocho station if i remember right - look for the bataleon sandwich board usually outside), that sells second hand snowboards. Theres also one in hirafu, though its a touch pricey iir.

Yahoo is a good option, but you can be a little scuppered by being foreign, not speaking japanese, and not having someone that can set you up with your yahoo auctions account. The lack of a japanese bank for the transfer doesnt help either. Maybe others more brave than me know a bit better, but when i used it i went through a japanese friend of mine for all the sales.

The advice on using a mail forwarder like bongos or shipito or whatever is sound. Lots of them offer the service, and very few companies will be all that arsey about sending gear to a known ail forwarder (and breaking their vendor agreement - grey market; burton hates it).

As for companies not restricting gears... lemme check dogfunks latest list... oooh, arbor now on the list as well. As is Nitro (im pretty sure they were the two big names left after capita/c3 and rome became restricted in 2011/12. There we go, thats pretty much everyone youd want. And slash, yes, jones and all the nidecker lines. Looks like theres literally nothing left from the top lines. Youve still got stepchild, technine and elan. Youve also got endeavor and honestly, their boards have gotten some love (and theyre pretty decent price point ranges as well - i sing the praise of those). And theres er, *(DISCLAIMER!!!!!! MY MATES COMPANY), thrive. Ooh and of course bataleon and lobster. Amazing how theyve almost been blanked from my mind after my riot disappointed me so :)

And theres Gozaimmas boards. Or whatever hes calling them :)

Still, get off the burton trail. No reason to be all burton. Plenty of options out there. Im rides biggest fanboy at the moment because pop walls are freaking incredible. Plus i love carbon array to shit, (so on point) and dual camber (all mtn whatevers) is the bestest evah! I used to be bataleons, and before that capita's. Lots to love and it flips the second i get on another board.

Plus loads of people i know directly or indirectly flooded back to camber last year. So you knows, a 2009 board, or even an uninc or custom (if youre a burton kid) is going to cheer you up no end. 2009 was kinda the last season before reverse camber took off and everyone went insane for it. Find some of those rides in your local market and someone daft enough to sell them (its off season still so prices might not be at a premium) and so long as they aint beaten to crap they should still be fun enough to ride (even if theyve lost a bit of their pop by now - but hey hey! thats the whole flat/zero craze from 2 seasons ago when everyone was hyping dinosaurs will die - oooooh! theres a label you might still be able to get).

So yeahs. Have a look on oz ebay and see what you can pick up. I once saw the bumblebee evil twin (ltd edition bataleon) which i DESPERATELY wanted a few seasons ago on the NZ version. Wish the auction hadnt ended and the seller got back to me. Thatd have been coolies.
