This ski area has one gondola lift and six quad lifts. There are two main areas: the Hotel Area and the Champion Area. The Hotel A Course and Champion A Course are two official 'zones' where snow is left ungroomed.

Akakura Kanko Resort ski area is also course-connected with neighbouring Akakura Onsen ski area. A joint lift ticket is available.

The Champion Number 1 quad lift has recently been retired, and the top Number 5 quad lift has been changed to a new three-seater ski lift. The current lift line-up is the 2,607m Sky Cable gondola, four quad lifts (1194m, 593m, 1100m, 1144m) and one 765m triple lift.

The Myoko Kogen Sky Cable gondola received a major refresh in 2024. The cabins and cable are new and shiny but the location of the base and top station remains unchanged.

Introduction to the region

Niigata Prefecture is located in the Chubu region of the main island of Honshu, and it is commonly associated with the Hokuriku subregion. The long Niigata coastline faces the Sea of Japan, and the prefecture borders Yamagata Prefecture, Fukushima Prefecture, Gunma Prefecture, Nagano Prefecture, and Toyama Prefecture.

Niigata played a significant role in the history of skiing in Japan. After Hokkaido and Nagano Prefecture, it is currently home to the third-most ski areas in Japan.

The ski areas of Niigata are scattered across the mountainous regions of the prefecture, and there is even one on Sado Island. The majority can be found in Yuzawa Town and Minamiuonuma City in the Chuetsu region and Myoko City in the Joetsu region.

Myoko is the name of a city in Niigata Prefecture, near the border with Nagano Prefecture. Many people associate the name with the ski areas on and around Mt Myoko, in the city's southwest region. Myoko is famous for often receiving some of the heaviest snowfall in Japan.

Other popular ski areas in Nagano Prefecture are nearby, including Madarao, Nozawa Onsen, and Shiga Kogen. The region is popular year-round for its onsen hot springs, nature, and outdoor activities.

Akakura Kanko Resort is one of 7 ski areas currently operating in Myoko City.
