Kurohime Kogen Snow Park is a ski area on the eastern slopes of Mt Kurohime in Shinano Town in the northern region of Nagano Prefecture.

This ski area is very close to the Nagano border with Niigata Prefecture and the various ski and onsen resort areas in the popular Myoko region, and generally not as busy as those. Fine views of Lake Nojiri, Mt Madarao and Myoko to the north can be enjoyed on a clear day.

Kurohime currently has one quad lift and five pair lifts, with the longest run of 2,600m and the steepest gradient of 33 degrees. The main ski runs are named after animals - Mouse, Dragon, Snake, Rabbit, Monkey, Blackbird, Dog, Bull...

There is a large Family Park area and also a ski lift that allows dogs, the 'Snow Dog Lift'. (Dogs are charged the same as young children! * No discount is available if they can say 'sausages').

The nearby Dowa-no-mori Snow Wave area has 3km and 5km cross-country courses.

SnowJapan Directory: ski school listings in the region

Introduction to the region

Nagano Prefecture is located in the Chubu region of the main island of Honshu. It is one of only eight landlocked prefectures in Japan, bordered by Niigata, Gunma, Saitama, Yamanashi, Shizuoka, Aichi, Gifu, and Toyama.

Nagano Prefecture is sometimes referred to as 'the roof of Japan' because of the steep, rugged terrain of the many 2,000-3,000m mountains that comprise the Japan Alps. The Northern Alps are located along the northwestern region bordering Gifu and Toyama. The Central Alps are in the southwestern region, and the Southern Alps are along the southeastern border.

After Hokkaido, Nagano Prefecture is home to the second-largest number of ski areas in Japan. It has multiple world-class winter sports resorts within its boundaries, and some were venues for the main events of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. There are ski areas throughout the mountains of Nagano Prefecture, but the majority are in the northern and central regions.

Kurohime Kogen Snow Park is one of 2 ski areas currently operating in Shinano Town. The other is Tangram Ski Circus.
