Akita Hachimantai is a ski area located on the north-western slopes of Mt Hachimantai in Kazuno City in the northeastern region of Akita Prefecture.
This ski area has two ski runs (1,000m and 1,300m in length), accessed from the one 1,024m pair lift. The steepest gradient is 27 degrees.
Akita Hachimantai is not open every day of the winter, so check before going. Usually, on weekdays during the mid-winter season, it is only open on weekends and holidays.
Some days when it is not open to the general public, groups of 15 and over can reserve it as their private ski area.
There are three ski areas in Kazuno City. The others are Hanawa and Suishozan.

Akita Hachimantai usually plans to be open from late November or early December until early May. See below for the actual opening and closing dates in recent seasons.
Normal opening times
Akita Hachimantai is normally open between 8:30am and 4:30pm. Lifts operate from 9:00am until 4:00pm. On weekdays between in peak season it can be used for private use for groups of 15 people and over. Reservations are required. (* No mention of extra cost being involved).
Night skiing
There is no night skiing at Akita Hachimantai.

Introduction to the region
Akita Prefecture is located in the Tohoku region, on the northwestern side of the main island of Japan, facing the Sea of Japan.
Akita shares borders with Aomori Prefecture to the north, Iwate Prefecture to the east, Miyagi Prefecture to the southeast and Yamagata Prefecture to the south.
The ski areas in Akita Prefecture are distributed across the mountains from north to south. Two of the more well-known ski areas are Tazawako, on the western slopes of Mt Akita-Komagatake in Semboku City, and Ani, on the southwestern slopes of Mt Moriyoshi in Kitaakita City.
Most of the other ski areas in Akita Prefecture are small local operations.
