The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Real storm conditions this morning here in Shiga Kogen. 28cm outside my base here in the place where I always take my measurements. It's windy out there and the wind is blowing the snow around and so there's more in some places and less in others. Lifts are definitely going to be affected this morning - in fact it looks like at the moment pretty much all lifts are on hold - but with these conditions I can't imagine actually wanting to be out there in them myself! I think I will wait until the storm passes to enjoy the new snow. The official snow depths have for the most part hardly budged so just ignore them for the moment and think of that lovely new fresh snow that has fallen - and is continuing to fall. The snow and wind is expected to continue over the next few days though perhaps some easing off from time to time allowing some places to part open. By the end of the week though if this all continues as per forecast, we're going to be enjoying some great conditions and be fully open - at last! Here's to lots of snowfall. There's some sunshine this morning but it should only be a temporary break from the snow as we have heavy snowfall forecast and expected tonight and through tomorrow. Looks like it could be lots. Kind of wet snow yesterday even though we got quite a lot of it of course - not top season Shiga Kogen quality - but we'll take it. Tonight should see the lighter kind falling (though falling 'heavier' of course). We all expect! We should be finding most lifts and courses now open and with the snow due by tomorrow as well I would have thought that by the coming weekend we can finally call it as 'all open', or certainly close to. Some of the official snow depth numbers are a bit ridiculous considering the snowfall over the last day or so. But anyway, it's the fresh layer that really matters. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's stormy again here in Shiga Kogen with more snow once again. Strong winds have blown it all around but on average I would say about 20cm of fresh.... and it is really coming down now as I sit here writing this. Great stuff. Not the kind of weather where I want to venture out on the slopes as it's heavy snow and gusty winds. It does look like some lifts are open with others on hold due to the conditions. The last three days though has seen lots of snow fall and was just what we all needed. More numbers expected to add up before tomorrow and then regular snow through until Sunday when heavy snow is again on the forecast. This is more like it! Once the storm clears conditions should be really great. Not much earlier on as it has only really taken hold this morning, but it's really falling quite heavily now and there's a wind as well so it feels very cold outside. Storm like conditions just at the moment. Snow should ease off tomorrow and then we are due a few days of potentially clearer skies - a great time to be here if you can! In the meantime, lots of snowfall today please let's get as much in as possible... Take care if you are out on the slopes though, visibility is generally limited and in some places very poor - be sure you know where you are going. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Lots more fresh snowfall this morning to report to you... good quality stuff too. It is still falling now this morning so continues to pile up. The official snow depths as often is the case seem very... not enough! Let's look at the forecast: Clearer skies expected tomorrow and perhaps Wednesday and into Thursday too. It will not be quite as cold as it has been but fingers crossed still remain very cold. We should be back to snow into Thursday and heavy snow is currently on the forecast for Friday night and Saturday. The last week or so with the regular and often decent snowfall has really changed things. Good morning from Shiga Kogen and I'm happy to report just over 8cm of snow round the back of my place and I hear resorts reporting 10-15cm on the slopes as well early on. Nice. Would be great if we could get into the pattern of getting that and more on most days, but there you go. We'll take what we are given. It is continuing to snow now though visibility here in the Maruike area anyway remains fairly decent considering it's still coming down. I even saw some blue sky over by Ichinose a little earlier. Light snow seems to be what the forecasts are telling us to expect today. As for tomorrow, I think there's a chance of sunny skies before we get more snow from Tuesday. Looks like it might be strong winds as well around Tuesday and Wednesday along with particularly cold temperatures. Bring it all on, I say. For this morning though the overnight (modest) refill should be fun to play on. Hope to see some of you out there. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Fine weather since yesterday afternoon here in Shiga Kogen and this morning starts with clear skies and sunshine. Still since my report yesterday there was new snow falling and so that's the 'new snowfall' that appears in the report this morning. Today will probably be fine for the whole of the day but we'll be back to snowfall tomorrow. Tomorrow night is supposed to be the peak of this particular delivery of snow, so let's hope there's a lot. You may have noticed on the forecast talk of rain on Saturday. It does look like large parts of the region at least are going to be experiencing unseasonably warm conditions. We really do want to avoid that (obviously) so all offerings to the snow gods should be submitted now! After the relatively fine weather over the last few days, light snow has started to fall here this morning and just a cm of so on the ground so far. Snow is forecast for today of course and tonight too - possibly getting heavier later in the day - though it probably won't last long into tomorrow. After some clearer skies, more snow is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. Not much else to report really this morning - it's looking quite busy out there this morning. Until tomorrow when I hope to bring news of fresh snow. It was strong winds and snow storm time overnight but this morning we're just waking up to just a thin layer of new snow... somewhat disappointing. It's a calm morning now. Less cloud, more blue sky and the sun is shining. A lovely morning actually. I was talking with a few people last night who have lived their entire lives here in Shiga Kogen (or down below in Yamanouchi town) and they were all commenting on how they have never experienced a season like this one before. It truly is unique! (Let's hope it stays that way!) The way that generally temperatures have been higher than normal with a few sudden dips into mid-season cold here and there... 'not normal' is the best way to describe it. In this season of odd weather, how will the rest of February and March treat us? Forecast: snow tomorrow into Wednesday, and then at the end of the week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's going to be a fantastic morning. A cold start. Blue skies. The sun is out. And the snow that we got yesterday, all 18cm or so of it. Wind was blowing it around and so it's going to be more or less than that in places but that's my best number based on a few nearby observations. More sunshine is forecast for tomorrow as well and getting a little warmer for Saturday, but we should be seeing more snowfall later on in the day on Saturday as well. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It almost feels like mid winter! Some good snow falling here this morning and there's just under 15cm of fresh light snow on the ground. Yesterday calmed down and we ended up with a fine day. But it was back to snow and this morning nice big snowflakes are still falling. Like I said it feels like mid winter, oh yes. Please continue. Regular snow (perhaps on and off) is forecast for the coming days and through into early next week so we can look forward to a decent end to the month of February. Could we be in for a good last third of the season? The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Loads of snow! There haven't been many times I have been able to say that this season but here we are on 1st March and I'm able to report a significant amount of fresh snowfall. And a proper amount too - my friend was saying close to 50cm outside his place. Northerly winds have been blowing snow around and I've taken a few measurements and going to record 35cm as the number today. Great stuff. And it's still snowing. Once we get past today, clearer skies are forecast and not a whole lot of snow lined up either. For now though, today should be GREAT!
