The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . An early report today, because there's a race up on the hill and I will be sitting by a gate making sure everything is OK... The snow tapered off yesterday soon after the report was up, so we only got about five more centimeters of snow. Not bad, of course, since we got some positive figures added to the snowpack reports. Today it's sunny, with some clouds out over the ocean that might bring some snow showers later. Looks like a really nice day for a ski (or for sitting on race course). All info below is from yesterday; probably a bit more snow at some of the resorts and higher temps today. Akakura Kanko: -4° / 180cm; all lifts running until the 27th, then Sky Cable, No. 2 and 3 lifts Akakura Onsen: -2° / 150cm; nighters over for the season Ikenotaira Onsen: -3° / 70cm Myoko Suginohara: -7° (top) / 95cm; Gondola and No. 2 lifts only Seki Onsen: -3° / 250cm; top lift won't be running due to heavy snow! Things are a bit nicer today than yesterday; there is still some fog (which looks to be clearing), and a light dusting of new snow, instead of the rain. It's still snowing very lightly, and there's the chance that it might clear later in the day. Not such a bad way to end a three-day weekend. Snowshoeing, not skiing, but I'll be out in the woods, and that's always a good thing (especially with a lot of birds now back from their winter break). Yes, Akakan and Seki Onsen are hoping to keep on going, but the bare spots on the mountain are growing very quickly. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It almost feels like mid winter! Some good snow falling here this morning and there's just under 15cm of fresh light snow on the ground. Yesterday calmed down and we ended up with a fine day. But it was back to snow and this morning nice big snowflakes are still falling. Like I said it feels like mid winter, oh yes. Please continue. Regular snow (perhaps on and off) is forecast for the coming days and through into early next week so we can look forward to a decent end to the month of February. Could we be in for a good last third of the season? There haven't been many times I have been able to say that this season but here we are on 1st March and I'm able to report a significant amount of fresh snowfall. And a proper amount too - my friend was saying close to 50cm outside his place. Northerly winds have been blowing snow around and I've taken a few measurements and going to record 35cm as the number today. Great stuff. And it's still snowing. Once we get past today, clearer skies are forecast and not a whole lot of snow lined up either. For now though, today should be GREAT! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . After that lovely start to the day yesterday, here was are this morning with a much more winter-like picture. Good and cold and snow is falling. A perhaps somewhat disappointing 5cm of snowfall compared with some other nearby areas this morning, but it is snowing now though less than a bit earlier and it looks like there's a good chance of it easing off this morning. The forecast for the coming 6 days is looking pretty decent with regular snow. The heaviest snow looks likely to be around Friday and then later on Sunday into Monday. Anyway the sun us out again this morning and all is calm. It's clearly warmer this morning as well but hopefully things won't warm up too much in the sun. Tomorrow should see a return to cold for a few days along with a good chance of quite a bit of snow, if we are to believe the forecasts. Bring it on, I say! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Hello and good morning from Shiga Kogen. We had just under 10cm of fresh snow yesterday here in Shiga Kogen. What a lovely mid-April surprise and of course most welcome. It is another cold morning here but will be warming up more as things return to 'spring like' over the coming days. We're still over three and a half weeks away from the remaining resorts due closing date. Ichinose Diamond were planning on continuing but their season is now over. Let's see how the coming weeks go... there's some rain expected by Thursday and with the freezing point way above our peaks we can't really expect it to be snow here unfortunately. Planned late season dates for Shiga Kogen resort areas: Please note that the below dates are all subject to change and of course dependant on snow conditions (and there's less snow than usual this season). We'll try to keep this up-to-date with every new report. Takamagahara Mammoth The quad lift plans to be operating until Sunday 8th May (* Saturdays and Sundays only until 28th April). Ichinose Family The Ichinose quad lift plans to be operating until Sunday 8th May. The Ichinose Number 2 pair B lift plans to be operating until Sunday 8th May. Terakoya The Terakoya lifts plan to be operating until Sunday 8th May (* Saturdays and Sundays only until 28th April). Okushiga Kogen The Okushiga Kogen Number 6 pair lift plans to be operating until Sunday 24th April. The Okushiga Kogen Number 2 and 3 pair lifts plan to be operating until Sunday 8th May. It was strong winds and snow storm time overnight but this morning we're just waking up to just a thin layer of new snow... somewhat disappointing. It's a calm morning now. Less cloud, more blue sky and the sun is shining. A lovely morning actually. I was talking with a few people last night who have lived their entire lives here in Shiga Kogen (or down below in Yamanouchi town) and they were all commenting on how they have never experienced a season like this one before. It truly is unique! (Let's hope it stays that way!) The way that generally temperatures have been higher than normal with a few sudden dips into mid-season cold here and there... 'not normal' is the best way to describe it. In this season of odd weather, how will the rest of February and March treat us? Forecast: snow tomorrow into Wednesday, and then at the end of the week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's going to be a fantastic morning. A cold start. Blue skies. The sun is out. And the snow that we got yesterday, all 18cm or so of it. Wind was blowing it around and so it's going to be more or less than that in places but that's my best number based on a few nearby observations. More sunshine is forecast for tomorrow as well and getting a little warmer for Saturday, but we should be seeing more snowfall later on in the day on Saturday as well. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yesterday the snow clouds cleared up somewhat and we were left with a fine afternoon. This morning we have enjoyed one of those 'it's fine but snowing at the same time' kind of situation. Light snow is falling but there's quite a lot of blue sky up there and visibility is good. Keeping cold. It's a good morning to be out on the slopes. Let's take a look at the forecast. I'm afraid there's not much on there that shows potential for any significant snowfall, or indeed much at all. Over the next few days it's going to be more a case of sunshine and clearer skies if the forecasts are right. And also warmer conditions over the weekend. Down in the valleys it's really going to warm up but up here we should avoid the worst of that, but it'll still be mild. Hopefully not warming up too much. Today and tomorrow should be good though.
