The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yesterday, it rained. Not nice and obviously not good for the snow out there on the slopes. The much better news is that today it is snowing. Not the lightest or driest snow, as temperatures remain relatively mild (though still in the negatives), but it is actually falling quite heavily at the moment and a wind blowing around as well. Here's to a nice new layer to cover up the icy snow underneath. Clearer skies are forecast for tomorrow. Look for a warmup as we enter the new week and a sunny start to the week. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 655cm Posted on Friday 25th April 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The rain earlier in the week soon cleared and we have enjoyed some fine and clear conditions the last few days. We should have similar over the weekend. As I write this, the first cars should be driving through the Route 292 road connecting Shiga Kogen with Kusatsu in Gunma Prefecture. It opens at 10am this morning. This road is of course closed during the winter months. Apparently, in some places the snow walls on the side of the road are 8m high. A sight to see for sure. Of course this road now open means that you can now get to Shiga Kogen from the Gunma side. More lifts opening up again tomorrow for the Golden Week holidays, details as they are posted below. Have a good weekend. Tannenomori: Number 8 quad lift - 26th April until 6th May Ichinose Diamond: Diamond quad lift - 26th April until 6th May. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The last week has seen temperatures plummet and some sprinklings of snow and.... oh yes, the Kumanoyu area is open! Yes, the first ski lift of the season is moving. Just the Number 2 pair lift, with a 600m run of around 20-30m width has opened this morning. There has been a layer of real snow with the snow machines backing that up to let this happen. So it's the officially the first day of the ski season in Shiga Kogen - please note that snowboarders aren't allowed at the Kumanoyu area, it's skiers only. (Don't blame us!) These Shiga Kogen Now reports will become daily once we are into December and more is open but we'll keep this page updated a few times a week until then. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . We have some new snow since yesterday - and it is still snowing here - but I can't see any changes to the resort operations this morning which surprises me a bit. I thought there'd be more action this morning, though it must be added that Shiga Kogen resorts are not the quickest to get information out there. But with this snow I would expect more open and definitely news of that tomorrow morning. That's my guess anyway. So anyway yes it's snowing, right down to those cheeky monkeys down in the Yamanouchi town areas. Still limited operations - as far as I can tell. Takamagahara The lower run is open, with the Number 2 triple lift moving Ichinose Family The Number 2 Pair A line is moving and there's a 380m long and 30m wide course open Kumanoyu Number 2 Pair A and B lifts are servicing a 600m long and 60-70m wide course. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 100cm Posted on Sunday 14th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Decent amount of snow since yesterday with most of the resorts adding about 15-20cm to their snow depths, but there has been more than that. They seem to like under-reporting the snow for some reason, that's what I think anyway. As if we wouldn't like heavy snow. You may have noticed that Nozawa reported close to 1m of snow. Yes, they're not right next to each other and conditions can often be very different, but that gives you an idea. Anyway, it's snowing quite heavily still now so I would expect more to be added. Easing off by late today but another winter storm on the way on Wednesday and perhaps the coldest - and windiest - conditions of the season yet. Friday might be a good day to arrive here with clearer conditions forecast. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello and welcome back! The resort this afternoon is reporting 40cm of snow up on the top runs of the resort after the snowfall of yesterday. Exciting times. It's looking really nice and white up there now on the webcams. A bit more down here at base and in the village. It has struggled to warm up beyond freezing point at base today, and we have had sporadic snow but at the moment there are breaks in the cloud and I can see some blue sky out there as well. The forecast is for cloud/sleet/snow into tomorrow. This spell of winter weather will make way for clearer conditions and a warm up later in the week and over the weekend. Snow is forecast for the day, so here's hoping that we can get as much out of it as possible. It probably won't rise much over 0 degrees here for the day, with Yamabiko recording temps of -5 degrees as of 7:30am this morning. It doesn't look like there's any change to lift operations and course openings just yet. No doubt the resort is as keen as we are to open up more!
