The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . The good news from Hakuba continues today with another 15cm of snow on the ground here and more on the mountain. Hakuba 47 report up to 40cm, Cortina up to 35cm. Nice. The storm has been calming down now though. This morning it looks clearer and sunny higher up, overcast skies from below. But fine weather is forecast for the day today and the sun should warm things up a bit. There's going to be lots of sun in the coming days if the forecast has got it all right, and a proper old warming up as well. The last few days have felt like mid winter, but come a few days and we'll probably feeling very much spring once again. Can't do anything about that. For now, it should be a great start to the weekend and I hope some of you can get to enjoy it. --- Like I said yesterday, March can be a funny old month. Similar to early season, it can be a risk if you are booking a holiday, albeit a different kind of risk than early season I suppose (absolutely no snow is much worse than spring conditions!) As the last few years have shown though, we can have very dry periods mid season as well. A bit more snow overnight - not as much as we might have hoped for, but hey look at the calendar - and right now there's some cloud about but lots of blue sky too. The sun is out as well shining down through the window here at base. That sun is maybe making an appearance a bit sooner than expected, but now it's here I'd say there's a good chance it will stay. Sunny skies are now forecast through into the weekend and possible even early next week along with warmer temperatures as well. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It was rain for most of the day yesterday. Not nice. Enough of that, let's try to wipe it from our memories. And that will be quite easy this morning because anyone getting higher up on the mountains today will be treated to a truly spectacular view of a thick sea of clouds covering the valley - with blue skies above it. Truly stunning scenery. Get it while it lasts! For those staying down in the village it's cloudy and foggy in places and not much to be seen at all. You need to get high up. The cloud will probably disperse this morning leaving us with sunny conditions lower down as well and temperatures approaching double digits at base. More of that is expected tomorrow too after a clearer night tonight. Oh yes, and snow is still expected on Monday and Tuesday. Just how much a return to winter like conditions it will be remains to be seen. There's lots of cloud around this on this very mild/warm morning with a bit of wind to add to the mix - hopefully that won't be affecting top lifts that are open. No rain yet but it's forecast for this afternoon but we are expecting it to be fairly short-lived and the sun will probably be out again tomorrow and taking temps up to close on 20 degrees. Keep in mind to avoid overheating! Back to rain from Sunday with an interesting potential dip in the temperatures around Tuesday when it might even feel chilly once again. The pick of the coming weekend has to be Saturday. --- Hakuba Goryu: Hakuba Goryu plans to be at least part open until Wednesday 6th May. Chilly overnight here in Hakuba and a chilly start to the morning but the sun is going to be out for the day once again today and will be warming us up. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . As much as I don't want to have to report this, but it's raining this morning, not quite as much as at times overnight (I was woken up by some very heavy rain during the night) but rain is forecast to continue for the day today. Happo-one are reporting rain falling up at Usagidaira and the same story up at the top of Hakuba 47 as well so it would seem that there's not much escape from it today. Obviously this won't be doing the snow conditions any favours. It was pretty mild overnight as well not dipping below 6 degrees and as I write this report it is around 10 degrees at base. Everyone is of course understandably asking the question - when is full-on winter going to be with us? We were luckier than some areas in getting that snow to get things started - other areas in Nagano and Niigata haven't yet been able to open at all - but it has been a mild first part to December and resort operations remains very limited. The 6 day forecast shows a mix of sun, clear and rain over the next few days with a drop in temperatures, and some promise for snow around Tuesday/Wednesday of next week. Keep an eye on that! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Snow yesterday and overnight and this morning... sun?! Can't say we were expecting this but the sun is out right now. Lots of blue sky, quite a few clouds lingering on. It was a very cold night though and still very cold this morning.... I'm happy to say that it does not feel like early March. If we are to believe the weather forecasts, it will be snowing still today - and over the weekend as well - so perhaps it will quickly change and we'll be back to the snow soon. Whatever happens today (well, unless it's heavy rain which obviously won't happen!) it should be a great weekend. Which of course is a great thing. Would be better if there was less wind, but if that comes as part of the package... Snow and moderate winds are on the menu for the next 3-4 days and it will be keeping cold. If you are preparing to come here for the weekend, be ready for mid-winter like conditions and cold. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . After the blue skies we enjoyed yesterday, it's back to mid-winter today. Heavy snow is falling, there's a wind blowing it about and I can hardly see anything at all out of the window here in Maruike just now. White out conditions. Not the nicest of conditions to be out on the slopes and numerous lifts seem to be on hold due to the conditions at the moment. Best idea today is to take an onsen I reckon. But if you do go out you need to wrap up and be prepared to brave the elements! It feels more like mid January than mid March right now. Tomorrow and Wednesday are likely to be clearer and mid week we are expecting milder conditions. After that stormy day yesterday and perhaps around 20cm of fresh snow (the wind was blowing it about big time so one number is difficult - but a good new later on the runs) this morning we have blue skies and sun over Shiga Kogen. More sun and clearer skies likely tomorrow too, with things warming up a bit. Then back to snow around Thursday. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It feels like winter again! Not a huge amount but snow has arrived back and the road outside is white again, with snow falling now. A wind is blowing the snow about a bit and should make for cold conditions. Over the next few days it will be gradually warming up again and that trend continuing into next week.
