Quickly - take care driving and riding. 20cm or so here at base areas and resorts reporting between 20cm and 40cm. Very nice. It's snowing very nicely now as well and should be continuing all of today and tomorrow, then more mid week as well. Exciting times. More areas of resorts are opening this morning as well, and I have done my best to update all of the information below. Headlines include part of Skyline opening at Happo-one, the Toomi and part of Iimori opening at Hakuba Goryu, and most of Hakuba 47 now open again. It has started snowing (lightly) now but this is very probably the start of a lot that is due to fall over the next few days. Oh yes. In fact it quickly seems to be getting heavier just over the last 10 minutes. Bring it on, as they say. And so do I. So, heavy snow is expected today and tomorrow. It might get very windy too. And it will definitely be getting colder. All of the courses at the connecting Hakuba Goryu and Hakuba 47 resorts are now open. I totally expect more of Happo-one to be open from the weekend but no confirmation of solid news on that just at the moment. With the snow due before the weekend, I would actually expect pretty much all areas of Hakuba to be open come the weekend. Yey. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . The snow clouds remain over Hakuba this morning. It's a cold start to the day with light snow lazily falling from the skies as I sit here writing this report. A thin layer of snow at base with ski-jo generally reporting around 10cm of fresh on the slopes this morning. Hakuba Cortina coming up with the most goods and apparently 25cm on the upper areas over there. We are expecting milder weather patterns to move in by tomorrow and perhaps even the weekend will see sunny conditions in the region. Bring a camera! The 'Nighta' situation This information is mentioned in the area below for each of the resorts but I thought I would mention the options available for 'night skiing'. Great fun when the conditions are right - a bit like an ice-skating rink when they're not. Time it well though and it can be fantastic. Hakuba Goryu and Hakuba Cortina are open for floodlit nighta every day until 31st March. The night skiing at Happo-one will begin from tomorrow and then be open every day until the middle of March. Nighta at Kashiyamari is every day until 15th March (*sorry, I had that down as until 31st March in the report until today - my mistake). At Tsugaike Kogen there is night skiing from tomorrow until 1st January and then mainly on Saturdays. There is no nighta at the Hakuba 47, Hakuba Norikura Onsen and Hakuba Iwatake resort areas. --- Official snow depth numbers and operations as of 26th December 2014. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Morning from Hakuba. It looks like we're going to get some great views in today. Not much in terms of new snow to report this morning - and resorts report up to 10cm fresh - and it looks like we are going to be treated today with cloud early on already starting to clear up. Often get some amazing dramatic views when this happens. We are expecting fine, clear skies later today and tomorrow from the start of the day and maybe a day or two of slightly milder temperatures as well. Snow doesn't look like being too far away though with more due from Monday onwards. So make the most of the blue skies while you can. The Tree Riding Zone over at Hakuba 47 will be open from today. The resort describes it as 'a course for the adventurous, seeking a thrilling winter sports experience.' The area is ungroomed and unsupervised. You need to sign up and agree to the rules and also wear a fetching high visibility jacket to use the TRZ. Registration and all that stuff ovet at the school center at the resort. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Merry Christmas to all Hakuba Now and SnowJapan readers. It's a white Christmas here in Hakuba. Most new snowfall being reported by Hakuba Cortina resort who say there's been up to 40cm of fresh on the upper slopes over there. Goryu reporting 25cm, 47 reporting 30cm higher up and 10-15cm at base, Happo-one reporting 10cm. And my eyes report about 5-10cm or so on the ground in the village. It's not as fluffy and dry as it has been; a bit heavier and wet earlier on, but some good looking flakes coming down outside the window just now. Fresh snow is fresh snow, I'm sure it will be fine conditions out on the mountain this morning. Looks like it's really coming down out there now looking at the webcams from around the resorts - very poor visibility with nothing to see other than a sheet of grey/white. Snowfall is forecast on and off for the day today and tomorrow along with the continued cold conditions. Come Saturday the forecast is saying clearer skies and milder conditions through into at least early week. It was a beautiful day yesterday in the area, but this morning I have new snow to report from Hakuba - around 10cm on lower areas and a bit more higher up with Hakuba 47 and Hakuba Cortina both reporting up to 20cm. With hardly any wind at all, it actually doesn't feel that cold this morning and we are forecast to have a high of around 3 degrees this afternoon. Hopefully we won't get any rain - for now it's snowing. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Some varying reports on snowfall this morning from around the valley and it looks like Hakuba 47 are reporting the most. Lots of snow higher up it would seem. Differing numbers aside, let's just go with.... lots. Poor visibility out. Safety first. A heavier kind of snow yesterday, but lighter snow has fallen overnight so it should make for very good conditions this morning. It was only snowing lightly as well when I got up this morning but coming down with purpose once again now. Good to fill in the tracks, not so good if you want the views as well. One local forecast says it should be sunny this afternoon. Doesn't feel like it will as things are now, but you never know. Heavy snow is forecast for tonight into tomorrow. It should be getting much colder as well... those who have arrived in Hakuba might be tricked into thinking that it doesn't get that cold with the curiously and relatively mild conditions at the moment even with the snow coming down. It's set to drop tonight into tomorrow quite considerably. Looks like it's going to be a very snowy New Year and a fine way to see out the old and in with the new. We're enjoying continued fresh snow conditions here at the moment and it's expected to continue more at least for the rest of today and perhaps easing off tomorrow. Some lifts at Hakuba Cortina closed early due to avalanche danger. A reminder that while deep snow conditions are obviously very exciting for us, we need to keep that safety first thinking at the front of our minds as well. Do take care. For those looking forward to seeing the mountains and sunshine, the weekend should bring calmer and clearer conditions to enjoy. With all the new snow it should be an excellent weekend. Clouds moved in yesterday reducing visibility on most resort areas mid afternoon and snow coming down. There's up to 30-40cm of fresh if you are heading over to Cortina this morning - and that resort seems to be all open as well so it should be great times to be had over there. Less so at the big resorts around the village here with Goryu reporting 15cm, 47 reporting 10-15cm and Happo also reporting 15cm. A cold morning and it will remain cold through the day with snow forecast for most of the coming week as well. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . A very good morning from Hakuba where we have lots of new snowfall. Unfortunately for me I have to head into Nagano City this morning but for those venturing out onto the mountains, it should be a good one to say the least. Lots of different numbers to report from around the skijo - Hakuba 47 said they had 35cm of fresh up at Line C yesterday afternoon... and another 35cm this morning. If I'm not mistaken, that makes for 70cm up there. Tasty. Happo-one was also reporting over 50cm on upper slopes. This morning Cortina is posting 20-30cm and Hakuba Goryu is reporting 30cm up on Alps Daira. Down at base here I have at least 20cm outside my place. Hopefully you should get the picture - there should be lots of fresh everywhere this morning. Top conditions to enjoy. Just be careful out there and put on your best goggles to maximise vision... visibility limited once again this morning. This morning so far it's been snowing on and off but heavy snow possible today and tonight too. It's quite windy too apparently on upper areas with top lifts at Hakuba Goryu, Happo-one and Tsugaike Kogen seem to be affected at the beginning of the day. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . About 5cm of snow on the ground and it's coming down nicely just now as I sit here writing this report. Looking like it's going to be poor visibility out on the slopes, or certainly most of them, this morning, and with moderate to heavy snowfall due to continue I think that's going to be the story today. The price we must pay for the goods! Going to keep cold for the day too, and a real contrast with the relative warmth of yesterday which felt almost spring-like - and so did the snow in places as well. Don't want to even mention that word just yet! Luckily, we're back to winter today. The snow and cold should continue through tomorrow maybe easing off as we get into Sunday. Look for some decent numbers being reported tomorrow morning! Should be a good weekend. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . A very good morning to you from a snowy and cold Hakuba. It was very cold through the day yesterday with a bit of snowfall on the mountains, and then some heavy snowfall overnight. Cortina once again reporting 30-40cm of fresh but Hakuba Goryu wins the 'most snow reported' award this morning with 50cm up on the Alps Daira top area up there. Happo and 47 also reporting a good 25-30cm as well, so we are spoilt for choice this morning. Not a good day for scenery though as the snow continues to fall and it's generally very visibility out there. Cold too. Need the right goggles and gear this morning. Forecast telling us to expect it to not last much longer today, and we might get a clearer and sunny day tomorrow with temps rising into low positive numbers. It's a national holiday as well tomorrow, so good timing there. More snowfall is due after that though, late Friday going into the weekend.
