  • Naeba Now: Friday 21st December 2012

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 148cm Weather overview Cloud Wind OK Temperature - Visibility Fair Posted on Friday 21st December 2012 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . The sun was out early on yesterday but it didn't last the day - I present evidence of 5-15cm of new snow here in Naeba (10cm or so under my feet this morning) and 30-40cm of new snow up at Kagura. It is -4C in the village area here and some new snow to slide on this morning. Just cloudy and a slight wind, with cloud forecast for the day. Perhaps some snow showers tomorrow but it will be milder and a chance we might see some rain still. Temperatures will drop later on Sunday though and hopefully we'll be seeing that decent snowfall that has been lingering about on the forecasts. With all that new snow up at Kagura once again, it should be very nice conditions today. • Naeba Now: Monday 10th December 2012

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 60cm Snowfall at base this season 73cm Weather overview Cloud, snow Wind Varied Temperature - Visibility Poor Posted on Monday 10th December 2012 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . The snow has arrived in style! Strangely, Kagura aren't boasting about 70cm of new snowfall on their page, but that's what it amounts to and doesn't sound unrealistic to me. Naeba are saying they have had 50-80cm of new snowfall since yesterday and again I can believe that, there has easily been 50cm outside my place here since yesterday. From what I can gather Naeba isn't yet opening up more runs because of the new snow so they are going ahead as planned with the lower No4 and No5 lifts open this morning. Hopefully we can expect that to change fairly soon. Strong winds are preventing the Tashiro part of Kagura to open today, so it will be closed. This region really does turn it on in style when it wants to. It it still snowing and should continue at least into tomorrow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 113cm Weather overview Light snow Wind Varied Temperature - Visibility OK Posted on Thursday 13th December 2012 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Light snow early on this morning above both Naeba and Kagura... I would say less than 10cm here in Naeba and Kagura are telling me that they were on the receiving end of another 10-20cm of fresh snow since yesterday. The snow depth numbers are however unchanged. The snow clouds will probably be leaving us today for a while and tomorrow may well be clear and sunny. Might be a good day to get out there instead of the weekend if you can, especially as it still looks like it might be raining on Saturday. Kagura continues to be almost fully open with the lower run at Naeba open. • Naeba Now: Saturday 22nd December 2012

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 148cm Weather overview Cloud, sleet, snow Wind OK Temperature - Visibility Fair Posted on Saturday 22nd December 2012 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . It is a mild morning here but happily we seem to have avoided rain and this morning light (wet) sleet/snow is falling, though there's no new cm to report. Hopefully rain will hold off as temperatures rise a bit during the day, though we can't be surprised if we do get a bit, especially at base. Naeba has of course been part open for a while already but today is their official "Grand Open", the most important bit of that being that most of the courses on the mountain are now open to ski and board down. A few exceptions mostly the steeper slopes on the mountain. Nighta also starts properly from today at Naeba (there is never any nighta at Kagura of course), and tonight will be followed by some excite fireworks. Sugoi! Over to Kagura when I was there earlier it was raining lightly at Mitsumata base, but the resort is reporting light snow higher up. Go high, is the advice for the day. Tomorrow might start off cloudy or fine but that potentially heavy snowfall is still due overnight into the week. Would be good. Official resort snow depth: Naeba - 100cm Kagura - 200cm Naeba and the Kagura resort areas are now all mostly open. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 297cm Weather overview Clear and sunny Wind Varied Temperature - Visibility Good Posted on Saturday 5th January 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Got a bit excited yesterday didn't I? Oh well, I'm allowed when we get over 50cm in a day. It was a snowy one all of yesterday and we got another 20+cm of snow since my last report up top, probably more, and more like 10-15cm lower down. Where did all the clouds go? I ask because there are none up there now. Clear, blue skies. Lovely. And the snow is going to be top draw today. Resorts should be open as normal. More clearish conditions tomorrow but perhaps not as much as today and we don't have much snow lined up in the coming week on the latest forecast. Official resort snow depth: Naeba - 150cm Kagura - 320cm All runs at Naeba open apart from Splash Bowl. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Happy New Year from Naeba. It's a lovely morning, though I would have preferred to be reporting huge amounts of fresh snowfall... seems that regions much further to the north of us here are getting the snow overnight. Here, we got none. Doh. Well, maybe a dusting but as good as none. But the good is that it's a lovely clear New Year morning - just some pretty fluffy white clouds up there - with just a slight breeze and everywhere is open. Snow later on tomorrow into Thursday? Hopefully. I'll bring you an update tomorrow morning. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Nice snowfall to report this morning, very light dry snow fallen overnight and up to around 20cm on Naeba. I'd say more like 15cm on the cars in village, and I am hearing that Kagura has seen up to double that amount since yesterdays report. Whatever the number, conditions should be very good today. Amazing what a good old dump of snow can do isn't it. The official snow depths haven't changed, so just ignore those for the moment! It continues to snow this morning but the skies are due to clear up later on. Good chance of the sun out tomorrow, so weekend visitors should be especially happy. It's a 3 day weekend coming up in Japan with Monday as a national holiday. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . No blue skies this morning. In fact we have snow. Lots of people in areas that don't usually get snow are excited this morning it seems because of the heavy snow falling there. Does that mean we got 90cm overnight? Alas, no it doesn't... the snow has just been falling in the wrong place! We did get about 5cm here in the village area and Naeba resort are reporting 'between 5cm and 20cm' on the slopes. Kagura are saying 5cm. Work that lot out if you can! Generally poor visibility this morning with the snow still coming down. It is snowing now though and fingers and toes crossed we'll get a decent amount to be able to report tomorrow morning. Official resort snow depth: Naeba - 160cm Kagura - 320cm Splash Bowl is due to be open for a limited time today. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Some new snow to report this morning. A rather vague sounding 10-30cm at Kagura - presumably lower and upper areas - and more like 3-5cm here in Naeba village - so varying amounts but importantly some fresh snow. It is snowing this morning as well with snow forecast for the day. However it's not the kind of snowfall that brings with it large amounts of new cm on the ground so I wouldn't expect a big haul to report tomorrow morning. Could be wrong though! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 422cm Weather overview OK Wind Moderate Temperature - Visibility Good Posted on Saturday 19th January 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Awesome conditions yesterday out there and with another 30cm since yesterdays report at Kagura it will should be more of the same today. Any tracks that were out there will be history and it should be top quality stuff today. Yey! As they say. Here are Naeba we had about 10cm or so in the village, perhaps less than expected, but still there'll be more on the mountain and conditions are good. We were expecting the snow to continue this morning and through today, but it isn't happening like that. In fact there's quite a bit of blue sky over Naeba right now and less cloud by the hour, so the weather seems to be co-operating for the weekend visitors. Some local forecasts still insist it will be snowing all day though, so we'll just have to wait and see. I reckon it'll be a fine day, that's sure what it looks like to me anyway. For what it's worth, the forecast for tomorrow is cloud and snow. Official resort snow depth: Naeba - 200cm Kagura - 340cm Splash Bowl due to be open for limited period today. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . OK today it's out turn for the wilder conditions. 20-40cm of new snow reported by Naeba. 20-30cm of new snow reported by Kagura. (Yes, I know the official snow depth numbers don't jump up by anything like that...!) But more importantly for the lifts and people out on the mountain today, strong winds are blowing about and affecting operations. Looks like it's only going to be the lower part of the mountain open at Naeba today. At least this morning. Hopefully if the winds calm down a bit more might get to open later. At Kagura, the Tashiro area is closed today. Mitsumata is open and up to the Kagura No 1 quad lift. Poor visibility out there. I think many people might give today a miss. Calmer weather forecast for tomorrow, maybe even sunny, followed by more snow the day after. Yey!
