The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Well we were hoping for a nice new layer yesterday and indeed we did get some more snow but it's pretty minimal. A few cm would probably cover it, maybe 5cm or so on the slopes around Shiga Kogen. It's a beautiful morning here. About -3c in this Maruike area here and the Kumanoyu area reporting a low of -7. Lots of blue sky. Quite a bit of white cloud here and there too. Nice and bright and the sun shining down. Colder conditions due tomorrow along with more snow. Clearer conditions on Saturday and then back to snow on Sunday. It's one of those periods when conditions are likely to change every day... Sometimes I'm amazed at how quite some of the slopes are mid week. Some are popular with school trips and well known for it, but you can be in places and hardly see anyone as well. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . And yes we did get snow later on overnight and this morning about 10cm or so fresh on the ground. And it's going to be adding to that quickly as well as the snow is really coming down at the moment. Just how we like it. A moderate wind, but resorts seem to be operating as planned. I suspect that there might be a few lifts operating at reduced speed but other than that... It's about -8 degrees here in Maruike at the moment. Visibility is poor. Summary: mid winter day out there! The snow is forecast to ease off late today and tomorrow should start more calm, though we may get more snow tomorrow night. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning and it's back to snow. Around 5cm of snow to report and light snow falling still at 10am. Doesn't feel as cold this morning and in Maruike it's -7C, though Yakebitayama are reporting a very cold -15C over in that area. Just shows how much it can vary over the area. Cloud cover but for the most part visibility is decent around the resorts. Local forecast says light snow for the day and clearing up by this evening. To be followed by clear conditions tomorrow morning and likely blue skies and sun. And then back to snow just before the weekend. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's a silvery overcast kind of start to the day in Shiga Kogen. Bright and the sun trying to break through and if I had to guess I reckon it will clear up. More snow is due later on today though - perhaps after the lifts close - and so I should be able to report some more snowfall in my next report. Very cold this morning down to -13C here in the Maruike area. Holiday weekend crowds have gone and we're back to normal weekday. Which means quiet slopes! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Strong winds and snow this morning making it a really mid-winter morning here. A few places are closed (Yokoteyama and Shibutoge, Terakoya, Higashitateyama and Mammoth), waiting for conditions to let them open and some places not fully open with only a few lifts operating. It's difficult to get the updated latest - just called one resort and the guy on the phone couldn't give me a clear answer! - but generally we are on limited operations this morning. The situation will likely change as the weather does. A real white-out of a morning really with poor visibility as well to add to things. I reckon the onsens and the Monkey Park down below will be popular choices today! Tomorrow should be much calmer and it might even be sunny - so should be a good day. We got another 5cm or so out of yesterday, but this morning while it is actually colder than yesterday, the sun is shining down over the Maruike area where I am writing this report from. There's lots of angry looking grey cloud up there as well though making for some dramatic sky scenery. In this area anyway. I think it's one of those mornings where there's differing conditions over different areas of Shiga Kogen. Looks like some lovely blue skies over Okushiga Kogen.... and hardly anyone on the lifts as well. I know where I'd like to be! There is a chance of snow today according to the local forecast, with similar kind of conditions lined up for tomorrow. After that Friday might bring us a decent fresh topup just in time for the weekend... The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's another cold start to the day, and snow is still falling. But it's not the crazy windy white-out that we had yesterday. Difficult to put a number on snowfall due to wind, so there's going to be places with more and places with less. Need to take care out there. Actually in the last few minutes the snow has really started to come down again here -- but at the same time, it looks like it might be clearing up. I can even see the sun trying to shine through the clouds. Oh, no, gone back in again. Neighbouring areas of Nagano seem to have fine conditions this morning and so my guess is that it will quickly clear up. More snow due tomorrow though... Somewhat frustratingly those numbers below aren't moving again and the resorts aren't reporting new numbers - you'd think they'd really want to - but anyway, enough of that.... There was close to 20cm on the top of my car this morning. The snow continues now. It might well clear to some degree later today but we have more snow due tomorrow. It's going to be a good weekend. The snow did clear up yesterday and all told we just have a thin layer of snow since the report posted yesterday. We are back to snow though and it is coming down quite nicely here in Maruike as I write this. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . We did see the snow ease off yesterday. This morning is bright, lots of cloud around, but also more and more blue sky appearing as time marches on. I get the feeling that give another few hours it will be much clearer and we might get to see lots of the sun. It's keeping really cold so snow conditions should remain good. And before we know it, snow is due back with a fresh topup due overnight and into tomorrow morning. There's a few conflicting ideas on what we'll see tomorrow - ranging from clearer skies to snow. So take your pick. It should keep cold though through the weekend. So come expecting cold and snow showers, and just be happy if you get some sun in between. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . 'Tappuri' new snow, as they say. More fresh light dry snow has fallen overnight. But what's this? More and more blue sky above me over the last hour or two, it looks like it is turning into a lovely sunny morning. Here in Marike anyway. I see cloudier conditions elsewhere like in Kumanoyu but I'd say that we're going to see more blue than white-out today. It's still fairly early I suppose but got to say I am surprised at how... quiet it seems. I was just over at Okushiga 15 minutes ago and the lifts there were more weekday-like than Saturday. A look at Kumanoyu webcam and there lifts there look almost empty as well. Those two areas are not typically the places where you usually see the biggest queues, but interesting all the same. There's a fair few people over at Ichinose, traditionally one of the busier parts of Shiga Kogen. There should be more people here!
