Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 620cm Posted on Friday 14th March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yesterday, it rained. Not nice and obviously not good for the snow out there on the slopes. The much better news is that today it is snowing. Not the lightest or driest snow, as temperatures remain relatively mild (though still in the negatives), but it is actually falling quite heavily at the moment and a wind blowing around as well. Here's to a nice new layer to cover up the icy snow underneath. Clearer skies are forecast for tomorrow. Look for a warmup as we enter the new week and a sunny start to the week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Loads of snow at the moment as this winter storm continues to deliver. Not the nicest of conditions out but once it passes things should be brilliant... Clouds and snow eased somewhat just now, but snow is forecast to continue falling throughout the day today. For those here tomorrow, a sunny day possible? Resorts seem to be adding 30cm to the snow depth this morning (or none in the case of Okushiga Kogen!) - there's more than that fallen, quite a lot more in places. Some lifts affected by the wind - Okushiga Kogen do not seem to be moving any lifts at all as of 10am - and there might be more disruption due to the wind. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 140cm Posted on Wednesday 17th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's snowing heavily in Shiga Kogen this morning as we expected. With wind blowing the light snow around it's difficult to put a number on it, but I'm going to go with 30cm and counting this morning. Some heroic under-reporting from the resorts with some adding 0-5cm to their snow depths. Regular readers will know how that frustrates your friendly reporter! I just don't get it. I'd be shouting out about it as much as I could if I were in the ski resorts shoes. But there you go, it seems unlikely that it will change. Well anyway, conditions should be pretty deep out there this morning. With wind and poor visibility though, it's only for the brave! A few resorts seeing lifts affected by the wind but for the moment things seem to be almost open as planned. As I have said more of Shiga Kogen plans to open from this coming Saturday and this storm will have moved on well before then. Might even get clear and sunny on Friday which would be great. OK so snow and wind forecast to continue all today and tomorrow. Local forecasts are for the snow clouds to ease this afternoon, but they'll be back tomorrow with good snowfall but strong winds lined up for Wednesday and Thursday. Early on this morning it's rather dark looking clouds and snow coming down quite heavily here in the Maruike area of Shiga Kogen. A moderate wind as well blowing it out. A very wintery scene as people start to head out to the lifts. Yakebitaiyama resort area is posting a temperature of -14! It's actually still forecast to clear up today - it just doesn't feel like that now with the conditions early on. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Nice weather yesterday, snow overnight and it seems the clouds are clearing again this morning with some blue sky opening up in places and the sun shining through. Still cloudy and poorer visibility in some places, but maybe it's going to start clearing in all of the areas. That is what the forecast tells us is set to happen anyway, followed by sun tomorrow and Monday. There's a fairly strong northerly wind though this morning. The wind has been affecting parts of Yokoteyama and Yakebitaiyama (Number 2 Gondola) - the Moving Sidewalk at Ichinose Diamond is not moving as well by the looks.
