When I woke up this morning it was just cloudy with no new snow to report, but it started to snow and is coming down moderately heavy at the moment in the Maruike part of Shiga Kogen. At least a few cm since then on the tops of cars. There's a bit of a wind as well at the moment - calmer earlier - but lift operations don't seem to be affected right now. A fine day of clearer weather is forecast for tomorrow, followed by snow as we approach the weekend. Some small areas of blue sky showing through in areas at the moment - could the clouds be clearing up? Forecast seems to say it might well happen and there should be some sun on view over the next few days, including Christmas Day. Back to snow by the end of the week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A thin layer of snow this morning and variable conditions. It's snowing and rather cloudy over at Ichinose, or it was 15 minutes ago, but now back here in Maruike the sun is actually trying to make an appearance. Clearer skies are actually forecast for later today, before snow and possibly heavy snowfall coming up tomorrow. Hopefully it won't get too windy. Lots of people around today as you would expect but from my quick look around in the last half hour it all looks manageable without too much of a bottleneck. One of the advantages of their being so many lifts and runs here. Of course it will be getting busier as the morning continues. Have a good New Years Eve and see you in 2014. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A snowy morning in Shiga Kogen. For you Shibutoge fans, that top bit of Yokoteyama is now open. What's more, get this, Starbucks has opened at the top of Yokoteyama. Yes, that Starbucks. Coffee. I kid you not. The highest Starbucks in Japan, as you might expect! So you can now have a Starbucks at the top of Shiga Kogen. How about that. I haven't been yet myself but of course the views from up there are fantastic so hopefully they'll have some prime seat locations looking out. Probably won't see much out of the windows today though with the snow coming down at the moment. Not the best of visibility around the areas this morning. But we could well do with the snow as it's still fairly thin on the ground really and so... bring it on, I say. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's still snowing. Good to see some resort areas add 10-20cm to their official snow depth numbers as well this morning. I would say there was 15cm or so on the car this morning to move. Nice and cold too, wrap up well to get out and enjoy nice dry snow conditions. While we haven't had huge snowfalls, we have been getting these consistent topups and it's building up nicely. Not that we'd say no to a huge snowfall of course. We are expecting less snow over the next few days, though we might get the occasional snow shower. Next Years Day looks interesting though with a good chance around then of heavy snow along with stormy windy conditions. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's a lovely bright sunny morning in Shiga Kogen with just a few white clouds remaining in the sky. The roads have packed snow on them, it's nice and cold, and we got 10cm or so of fresh snowfall on the mountains. What a good way to spend Christmas! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's an easy one today as the sun is shining and there are bright blue skies over Shiga Kogen. It was a very cold start to the day with some areas noting a temperature of -12 degrees around 8am. It has warmed up but still cold outside. Lovely day though. Shouldn't be as cold tomorrow but the forecast is similar. Worth noting that the forecast for today was not the bluebird we have. Next snowfall still probably over New Year. By the end of the day the snowfall will have probably eased off and then it would seem we can expect a few days of clearer skies and maybe some sun. As much snow today as possible please! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Snow is falling still here in Shiga Kogen. It's a steady light snowfall, not the stuff that brings us half a meter overnight, but steady all the same. Visibility is pretty decent here in Maruike actually, can see right over to Higashitateyama. Are we on for a few days of clearer weather from tomorrow? Perhaps. Doesn't look like there'll be much in terms of snow that's for sure. But overnight into Thursday is looking much promising. After the forecast milder conditions Tuesday and Wednesday, it should be getting back to being really cold come Thursday and more snow forecast. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Just light snow falling this morning here in the Maruike area, but I was just over at Ichinose where snow was coming down heavier. Thick cloud in places meaning that visibility is quite poor in places. Snow probably won't last until the end of the day though and tomorrow will probably be clear and not quite as cold. Then back to snow later Wednesday into Thursday. Less people out and about this morning as expected.... cue the school trips! A new layer overnight and hopefully more on the way today, tomorrow and beyond though there may be breaks in the snow looking at the latest forecast for the region. Not the coldest of mornings this morning but temperatures are due to fall during the day today and continue at a lower level into next week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . If you look at the official numbers below, you'd think we hadn't had any snow in the last week or so. Once again, best to ignore the official snow depth numbers as they seem intent on not updating or under-reporting for some bizarre reason. There sure was snow outside my place this morning though and I can say with about 100% certainty that there was on all of the resort areas of Shiga Kogen as well. Why they choose to not report it is beyond me. There, I'll try not to mention that again! ;) Anyway after the sun that we got yesterday, it's back to snow overnight and snowing now. Forecast to ease off later on.
