- Shiga Kogen Now: Friday 16th December 2016
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 12cm Snowfall at base this season 122cm Posted on Friday 16th December 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. I enjoyed a great half-day yesterday. The sun was out and there were some fine snow conditions to be found as well. We're still early season low on snow of course, but there was some real fun to be had. From early this morning the snow has returned and already there's decent cm piling up, and it's coming down in style as well just at the moment. Well it was when I first started writing this report, it has eased off a bit right now. But... snow forecast for the day so fingers crossed we're on for some decent numbers before the weekend. I don't have any inside info to share but especially if we can get some more decent snow falling today I would think that there'll be more lifts operating and courses open from tomorrow. Areas of Shiga Kogen currently open: Ichinose Family The Number 2 pair A and B lifts are operating with 600m of course open. Kumanoyu The Number 1 and Number 2 lifts are operating. Okushiga Kogen The Number 2 pair and Number 3 pair lifts are operating. Takamagahara Mammoth The Number 2 triple lift is operating with the lower part of the slopes open. Yakebitaiyama The Number 2 Gondola and Number 2 pair lifts are operating with the South Course, Panorama Course and Karamatsu Course open. The resort is preparing the Number 1 Gondola to get moving as well by the looks... Yokoteyama The Number 1 Sky B, Number 2 Sky pair and Number 5 lifts are operating. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Zao. It's a cloudy start to the day with what looks like limited visibility up on the mountain. It's a cold start to the day as well, and still only -3C here at base and minus double digits higher up. I have just a few cm of fresh snow to report this morning but hopefully I will be reporting some good numbers tomorrow morning. After tomorrow the forecast shows some clearer skies and milder temperatures as well early next week and not much in terms of snowfall... To a snowy day today! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 209cm Posted on Friday 16th December 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is another extremely cold day in Furano with -16c at base level and even colder -18c at the top of the resort. As is often the case with these cold Furano mornings it is a superb day with deep blue sky, full sun and not a breath of wind - I have posted 3 photos below the report that were taken this morning. The snow today on course is also very very good with a further 6cm of extremely light powder accumulating in the village overnight. Todomatsu Course is now open at the bottom of the Furano Zone. Night skiing is now available on both the Prince Course and Todomatsu Course. There is still no official guidance from the resort as to when they expect to get the Kitanomine side operating. Lets just see if they make an announcement over the weekend. With guest numbers in the resort increasing as we head towards Christmas the lift system on the Furano Zone is under a bit of pressure. Yesterday there were reports of the line for Furano Ropeway being extremely long. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be windy, but both days should deliver a little more snow, although nothing significant. The following courses are expected to be open today: Technical Panorama Spies Sailer Prince Todomatsu Furano Now 2016-2017 season Data as of Friday 16th December 2016 Total snowfall at base 209cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 31 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 32cm (8th November) November 2016 snowfall 110cm reported on 19 days December 2016 snowfall 99cm reported on 12 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Furano. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 65cm Posted on Friday 16th December 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa and 5-10cm of snow being reported by the resort this morning and 6cm measured by myself. Yesterday late afternoon deserves a mention. Not for snow but the spectacular colours that nature provided - a mix of pink and blue pastel shades to the skies and clouds, it was beautiful. But we want more beautiful snow of course, so it's good that there's some fresh this morning and it is snowing as I write this as well. After today the forecast is looking rather dry and at times quite mild too, so we could do with a decent dump of snow today. Actually, from today the 'Yu Road' is open and also the Hikage Gondola is going to open so the Paradise course is scheduled to be available as well. The resort has also said that it is preparing the Paradise Four lift, the Hikage triple lift and Shinyu pair lift as well, so we're going to be seeing more open very soon. Lifts that are planned to be operating: Nagasaka Gondola (8:30am-3:30pm) Yamabiko Four Lift (9:00am-3:30pm) Yamabiko Number 2 Four Lift (8:55am-3:40pm) Uenotaira Four Lift (9:00am-3:40pm) Courses that are planned to be open: Yamabiko A course Yamabiko B course Yamabiko C course Yamabiko D course Yamabiko E course Uenotaira course Paradise Official snow depths: Yamabiko: 110cm Uenotaira: 80cm Hikage: 50cm Nagasaka: 50cm Karasawa: 40cm Fresh snow reported by resort since yesterday morning Yamabiko: 10cm Uenotaira: 10cm Hikage: 8cm Nagasaka: 8cm Karasawa: 5cm Nozawa Now 2016-2017 season Data as of Friday 16th December 2016 Total snowfall at base 65cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 8 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 24cm (11th December) November 2016 snowfall 2cm reported on 2 days December 2016 snowfall 63cm reported on 6 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The forecast said we might have a break in the snowfall this morning before snow coming back tonight. It was right about the break in the snow clouds as we currently have quite a lot of blue skies and sunshine over Shiga Kogen. It is a lovely morning but very cold early on as well. But we'd like more snow and so hopefully the part of the forecast of it coming back tonight will also be correct. There's not a whole lot of promise for snowfall forecast over the weekend and early in the week so it looks like we'll have to make do with what we get tonight and tomorrow for a while. Nice, that should be a bit more higher up and make for some good conditions on the runs that are open. Opening remains unchanged this morning. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 203cm Posted on Thursday 15th December 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It couldn't be a more perfect morning here in Furano but it is cold. In the village it is a very chilly -16c, which is the kind of temperature we would expect to get in February. Conditions are extremely clear with not a cloud visible over the resort and perfect blue skies. To top this off there has been 6cm of very light snow since yesterdays report. The courses that are open are in very nice condition with superb packed powder. Certain courses are likely to be fairly crowded in places today due to several school groups on the mountain. As we head out of mid December and toward Christmas there are many wondering when Kitanomine will open. The resort has said opening is delayed due to the snow depth not quite being enough. Looking up at the Kitanomine slopes this morning they must be very close to being ready though as the front face has had a groomer over it and looks pretty good to me. Looking at the weather for the weekend, moderate winds are expected on the upper mountain on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday should see a little more snow but after that there is absolutely nothing on the forecast through to Tuesday.
