Pretty strong winds through the night, and they're still blowing strong this morning. Some lift closures have begun. Suginohara snuck one in on me by reporting yesterday on their main site that No. 3 is still running; it is not. We should have a rant about why resorts close from the top, where the fun stuff is, rather than the slushy little ones at the bottom, especially when they have plenty of people out there to play (OK, I do understand that you have to keep bottom lifts going for the young, inexperienced, etc. and for transportation....). We often suspect it is the area's dislike of the backcountry. (There. I've said it). Backcountry is not the issue, when people are dropping off cliff bands right next to the ski area with no gear. Backcountry folks are a lot better prepared.... End of rant. Open those lifts! Free our people! Hoping that it will get colder today and there'll be more snow to report tomorrow morning - it's there on the forecast. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. The sun is out this morning - it's going to be a fine last-day-of-the-long-weekend. I'm looking at the forecast for tomorrow night and through Wednesday and it's actually looking rather exciting. 'Heavy snow' --- could it be? We'll just have to see, let's hope we won't be disappointed. Personally I'd rather be surprised by not expected snow than be disappointed at a no-show! It will be busier than a normal Monday, being a national holiday, but things should be quieter in the afternoon as people make their way back to real life. Right now the sun is out with some cloud. A lovely spring morning again and a fine day to be out on the skis or board. The forecast is showing the chance of some fresh snow perhaps around Tuesday-Wednesday in the coming week, but before then we should enjoy more of this clearer weather. Monday is a holiday in Japan so it's a long weekend and a fair few people expected to be here. Looks like it will stay sunny through the day, although there's still snow forecast for the coming days. I am adding a little snow to today's fresh; I didn't see it with my own eyes, but there's a light coating on the roof that wasn't there last night. The other nice thing this time of year is that all of a sudden we have a lot of birds singing in the hills. I think they like that warm sun; maybe they know that dining is going to be a little more interesting soon, too...
