There is a small amount of new snow on the ground that I measured to be 4cm. The number of visitors is increasing rapidly in the build up to Christmas. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Brrrrr. It's a very cold morning here in Shiga Kogen. A beautiful one too. The sun is out. Blue skies. Stunning! And fresh snow. And very cold. Really have no idea about the "5cm" of fresh snowfall the official site is reporting.... I am measuring 34cm and I see Okushiga Kogen are reporting 50-60cm. Wind was definitely blowing snow around and there are also of course natural differences in such a wider area, but still! Maybe more snow tomorrow but there seems to be more sun than snow on the forecast from Wednesday into the weekend. I notice Ichinose Yamanokami now appears to be open as well as Shibutoge. Hopefully we might get to 'all open' at least 'mostly open' from this coming weekend. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa. And what a really great morning it promises to be. With close on 30cm more fresh snow on the ground and sun shining down on the slopes (well, the upper areas - still some morning low cloud in lower areas but that should clear up)... ...we couldn't really be asking for much more at the moment. It's 18th December and pretty much most of the courses are now open - that is really great to be reporting. Yet to open is just the Challenge 39; Mukobayashi, Hachiman, Kamoshika and Tanuki (and we can perhaps expect some of them to be opening soon, they are being checked this morning); as well as Kandahar. From now on in my reports (below) I will be mentioning which lifts and courses are not open - rather than what is open. More snowfall is due tomorrow. And more sunshine after that as we approach the weekend. Resort operations remain the same but I expect more to open up soon - surely by the weekend at the latest. The link up and mountain pass are valid from Saturday, so perhaps that is the target. The resort is reporting 20cm since yesterday evening but that doesn't include what we got during the day so my number includes that and is well over 30cm. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Snow in the day yesterday and this morning there's 15cm of it piled up and to report from here at base. It is another very cold morning and so I imagine that conditions should be really nice - report below mentioning things not completely reset - just get wrapped up sufficiently to get out and enjoy it. There's not much of a wind down here but it seems more so on the mountain so take that into account as well. Lifts appear to be starting up as planned though. Let's Niseko. --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Niseko base 6.00am: -8°, 15cm new snow, calm. Moiwa 800m : -10.6°, W5.8m/s. Annupuri 1150m: -11°, W10m/s, 30cm new snow. Hirafu 1200m: -14°, W10m/s, 20cm new snow. Coastal data: Benkei Cape:NW12m/s. Kamui Cape NW9m/s, 1010hPa, wave 2.0m. The winter weather pattern continues and with a shallow atmospheric pressure gradient the wind is westerly wind around 15m/s. Heavy snowfall overnight. From the 5am snow test, there was no obvious snowdrift fracture. From snowfall transition and data, the avalanche risk is low below 1100m. Snow is good although not completely reset everywhere. Expect bad visibility at times, watch for the transition from the groomers into fresh snow. Niseko Rules was established to allow you to ride out of bounds and issues this daily avalanche information to help prevent accidents out of bounds. Ropes mark the ski resort boundary's and outside the rope is not the ski resort. Use the gates to go out of bounds, do not duck the rope. Rescue activities outside the ski resorts are charged expenses outlined by the Niseko Annupuri Area Avalanche Accident Prevention Council. Ski resorts, Patrol and local community respect your freedom to ride out of bounds and always wish for your safety. Snow is getting deeper day by day. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The skies will likely be high overcast today with some light snow falling, however for now we have blue above and brilliant sunshine. It is a cold start to the morning at -11c and will warm up to around -5c by midday. There is no wind to speak of. Overnight there has been only a dusting of snow, but during yesterday another 5cm accumulated on the ground after the morning report was posted. Unfortunately the Kitanomine Gondola did not open and no announcement has been made by the resort regarding when they intend to start it for the season. Furano Zone open. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning. The resort is reporting 20cm of fresh snow across the mountain - with up to 50cm up top on Yamabiko. I concur with that 20cm number, actually my number is 22cm. A nice new layer of snow and apparently lots of it the higher up you go. Visibility is poor this morning as snow continue to fall and it feels pretty cold to me. So you need to get wrapped up but should be rewarded with some fine conditions if you brave the elements. Schneider, Challenge and Isemiya courses are now open and we can now ride back to base via Rinkan (Forest), Ushikubi or Kurokura courses. Skyline yet to make the debut for the season, but there's still lots to choose from with most of the mountain now available. Hope you have a good Sunday. Couldn't be much better news this morning on the second day of the season with a good 24cm of fresh snowfall to report, and the resort themselves reporting 30cm on the slopes; with 10cm on top of groomed slopes this morning. Whatever - it's a good new layer of fresh snow this morning. It's still snowing and visibility is poor but we want as much snow as possible so I don't think anyone is going to be complaining! Sunshine is due tomorrow with more snow coming Tuesday. That kind of regular snow-fine-snow-fine-snow pattern sounds pretty good to me. Emphasis on the snow of course. Quickly forgetting the bit of rain we got before it turned into the good stuff, I have good snow news this morning! My headline is 18cm of fresh here at base, and here is how much fresh snow the resorts are reporting this morning (* information that I can find): Hakuba Goryu: 10-35cm Hakuba 47: 20-50cm Hakuba Cortina: 20-30cm Hakuba Happo-one: 17cm (base) There's some good numbers there - top areas in particular should be in very good shape this morning. More of the Happo-one resort is open now with further lower runs opening up. Note that the top quad is not yet operating. Oh, and it seems that the Skyline Number 2 pair lift has some issues early on. We're expecting the snow to clear up sometime today and might get to see some sunshine later on and tomorrow morning -- before more snow comes by the end of tomorrow into Tuesday. Enjoy!
