The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . That's it folks. It is Sunday 1st April and today is the last day of the ski season here at Madarao. And as with much of March, we are ending the season with fine spring-like weather. Some thin cloud around and hazy in some directions but another sunny day is on the cards. Nearby Nozawa Onsen remains open until 6th May and a few of the resorts in Myoko are also going to be open beyond tomorrow. There's also the ski resorts in Shiga Kogen that are planning to be open into May. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. It is a beautiful morning here. Blue skies all around and the sun is out from the start of the day. It looks a lot less hazy and clearer too. Nice. Today won't be quite as warm as it has been, but it's forecast to get warmer once again from tomorrow and into next week. Expect a lot of sunshine along with calm and settled conditions. More patches of ground are getting noticeable now on lower areas, but still very good snow cover I would say (and excellent higher up) as we approach the end of the month. Many lower parts of Hakuba Happo-one are now not skiable - though there is a lot of snow and still a large area of that resort open. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here It's Friday. And it a mild morning. Beautiful too with lots of blue sky and sunshine, with quite a few pretty white clouds dotted around the skies too. It is going to be a fine day. I noticed on the news last night that Hokkaido (in general) was experiencing 'summer like' temperatures yesterday - one town (apologies, I did not catch the name) was apparently up to 20 degrees C, something that is more usual for July. I will post my recap of March and the season so far early next week. It looks like we are going to be ending the month with 49cm of observed snowfall here at base for the month. That is easily the lowest number that I have recorded in the month of March over the last six seasons. Anyway, more comment on all that early next week. There is just over 5 more weeks to go in the 2017-2018 season here in Niseko. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Some fresh snow being reported by the resort on upper slopes again during the day yesterday, and that may well be the last of it for this season as we have a run of clear and sunny days lined up over the coming week. Warmth too particularly mid week. There's an early morning low 'sea of clouds' hanging over the valley but that should be gone pretty soon and making way for clear skies and a high temperature of around 8C at base later in the day. Time to fully accept spring, embrace it and have some fun in what we have left. Which is still over 2.5m of snow depth on the upper courses of the resort. How about that then! The latest Niseko Now report can be found here There is no fresh snowfall to report and we start with a mild morning. The sun is out, some high thin cloud and it is probably going to be a fine day. And indeed, a fine run of days ahead with lots of sun forecast well into next week along with temperatures gradually rising (and possibly approaching mid-teens mid week). Full on spring. --- Not sure why, but my report got a massive amount of traffic/visitors yesterday - like, well over 10 times more than expected for this time of year. I wonder why. Perhaps a 'link in' from a major website or something. Anyway, if you are new here... haro! Rain! The official site is reporting 10cm of fresh snow this morning though I didn't see that much - I am reporting a few and I see so are the Kumanoyu area. And that has disappeared now with the wet that has been falling since then (but has since eased off). Snow clouds may stick around until tomorrow but beyond that clearer skies and increasing temperatures are forecast from the weekend onwards. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. I have some exciting news this morning. After snow starting to fall yesterday, there are some very interesting fresh snowfall numbers from the ski resorts. And here they are: Hakuba Goryu: 5cm (base); 30cm (top) Hakuba 47: up to 20cm Hakuba Happo-one: 20-25cm Hakuba Cortina 0-2cm Rather curious to see the numbers from Cortina there... especially as the 'official snow depth' at Tsugaike Kogen has risen from 285cm to 330cm in one day! Whatever the numbers, it would seem that there is a decent amount of fresh snow up there on the mountain this morning and most definitely worth checking out. Very nice surprise. The less good news is that it will probably be windy later on today higher up, and rain is spoiling it somewhat at lower elevations. So it's an oddly mixed condition report this morning but I am personally going to get kitted up and check out the new snow. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's great to see a bit of fresh snowfall here in Shiga Kogen this morning. A bit wet as it's relatively mild, but snow all the same. And there may be a bit more snow for us to get before we arrive at the weekend. Fingers crossed everyone. It is snowing right now. 'Planned closing dates' information for resorts in Shiga Kogen. Basically: - all ski areas in Shiga Kogen plan to be at least part open until the end of March; - a bunch of resorts will be open on specific dates (usually weekends and Golden Week) once we get into April; - the remaining resorts will be open daily until 6th May and beyond that (they will close when there's not enough snow left to ski or board!) The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning all. And there's some more fresh snow for me to report this morning. 5cm of it in fact here near base and no doubt more than that at higher elevations on the mountain. I wonder how much. Investigations are required. It does feel rather more wintery and it is generally a cold and cloudy start to the day. Temperatures are forecast to not quite rise to zero during the day. Perhaps a little milder tomorrow and more sunshine. There are just two more days of night time skiing operations left now - today and tomorrow. Rasuto chansu! --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Niseko base 6am: -7℃, 10cm snowfall. Moiwa 800m: -8.3℃, WSW7m/s, 20cm snowfall, light snowdrifts. Annupuri 1150m: -10℃, W10m/s, 15cm snowfall. 440cm snowpack at 1000m elevation. Hirafu peak: -10℃, W5m/s, 10cm snowfall. Benkei cape: NNW11m/s, Kamui cape W9m/s, 1024hPa, 1.0m waves. The isobars gradient became a little steep during the night and generated 15-20cm new snow fall overnight. Snowdrift development is small, wet snow through to 20cm. The surface below 800m is frozen and the groomers are having a hard time maintaining the slopes. So called “potato fields” are present in many spots. 30cm of smaller wet surface slab slides are to be expected in leeward knolls and steep slopes above 900m. Better not stimulate knolls and cornices. Decent snowfall since a while, the mountain is back to winter. Peak gates are expected to open. Listen to patrol’s advices, be prepared and step out of bounds from the gates. Beware of creeks, holes and cracks. Stay away from valley bottoms and in order to avoid glide avalanches. Quickly move away from steep slopes. No chances to outrun an avalanche. Avalanches are naturally happening, and would not be a problem as long as nobody is caught in one. The is not bad.
