The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Zao on this Monday morning... and what is the first official day of the ski season. Yes, a ski lift is moving - the Chuo Number 1 pair lift to be exact. (The Ropeways of course operate throughout the year). The sow is still pretty thin on the ground - they are reporting 30cm up there - but the Chuo course is open so you can get your first runs in for the season. The latest forecast is showing some snow perhaps tomorrow night and then later in the week. Everywhere is look very pretty this morning, but we'd kind of prefer some heavy snow please. Resort operations remain the same as they have been, with small parts of four resort areas open. All very limited. Hopefully there is more snowfall coming from tomorrow night. Snow kept going overnight here in Myoko; I'm going to add a bit to this morning's recorded fall so we get to our recorded total depth of snow for these two days - 58 cm. It was pretty sunny earlier in the day, but the clouds have moved back in a and light snow is falling (just what the forecast said!). The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . A bit more snow since yesterday and it is easing off this morning with generally cloudy conditions forecast for the day - more snow is due during this week. Opening news! Yes, it is happening today. Nozawa Onsen will be open from this morning. I can't remember opening plans quite like this, but the resort will be opening the Kokenashi A and B courses (each about 200m in length) and keeping them ungroomed. Not suitable for beginners. They are both in the mid area of the mountain. Operating lifts will be the Nagasaka Gondola and the Skyline connecting pair lift. You'll need to get the gondola back down. A one day lift ticket will be 3,400 yen for adults; 1,700 yen for children; 2,600 yen for seniors - and those prices will be valid until Friday 14th December. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning. This is really good. Snowing through the day yesterday and over 40cm more fresh snow to report this morning, quickly bringing the official snow depth on Geto upper slopes to 140cm in ungroomed areas. Today while it's snow early on, cloudy conditions are the main forecast and it might even get a bit brighter. The Number 1 Gondola will be operating daily until Friday 14th, and after that other lifts plan to be operating. Still, there's 8600m of course available which is pretty impressive. It is an excellent Sunday morning here in Furano where we are blessed with nice clear blue sky and a further 3cm of new snow on top of yesterdays 39cm! There are some moderate winds gusts in the village right now which are whipping up a bit of snow from roofs. That wind with the cold temperature, -12c, mean that it will feel a bit chilly today. There is snow forecast from around midday. With limited lifts and terrain open it will be congested I think and the place to head would be the Downhill 3 chair. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Good morning. I have a decent amount of snow to report from Zao base this morning. A little over 15cm and it is continuing to fall. Great to hear snow moving machines out and about doing their thing as well - first time this season. I hope they keep busy! The forecast is looking good for snow in the coming week so hopefully some ski lifts might be able to get moving soon. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. It's a bit disappointing this morning especially as we were hearing of the chance of some decent snow overnight. As far as I can tell here is what resorts themselves are reporting: Yakebitaiyama: 5cm fresh snowfall Kumanoyu: 0cm fresh snowfall I can report 1cm. So not the decent snow we were hoping for. It is snowing now, but it's very light and fine. Let's hope it kicks into a higher gear. There seems more of a chance of decent snowfall around Tuesday into Wednesday. Ski lift operations and course openings remain the same as yesterday. Shiga Kogen resort info: Sunday 9th December 2018 The below information is manually checked for each report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . I think we can say the snow season has officially begun. There was some snow on the ground yesterday (but just a bit; your reporter was on Sado Island, coming back through Niigata City where there was about 10cm of wet slush). Today, we have real snow, about 20cm and counting, and it's snowing really well. I'm guessing a bit today, but from today I'll have my official study gear out in the yard, ready to give you the data for your sliding and safety needs. Less than a week from the opening at Akakan and most of the others, and we just might make it....
