  • Myoko Now: Thursday 27th December 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 248cm Posted on Thursday 27th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The snow is back on, and the temperature is down in Myoko today. The announcer on local FM Myoko says it will be 6° colder than yesterday, with a 90% chance of snow. Good odds, I'd say. Only about 2cm so far, but it's coming down more heavily at times. Hopefully my snow study equipment will all be buried by tomorrow (I love having to probe for my study boards; they're 70cm tall but even then they often disappear). Thanks, too, to the people who made some nice comments on SnowJapan's Facebook page after my long explanation of my approach to doing these reports. It's all about sharing, right, not the ¥ (cause there isn't. Any.) He he he. I have to admit I've been caught a couple of times "You're the Myoko Now! guy, aren't you?" My secret identity largely remains just that. Great skiing here, folks; just bundle up today, especially as we're likely to get stronger winds tonight and into tomorrow. I'll report those who are up today. Also, most main lifts are now running, so I'll only note unusual closures, etc. Akakura Kanko: 90cm, -2° (yesterday's report) Akakura Onsen: 105cm, 0° Ikenotaira Onsen: 70cm, 0° Myoko Suginohara: 55cm, -1° (yesterday's report) Seki Onsen: 120cm, -3° (yesterday's report) Open Myoko Ski Park: 70cm, -5° (yesterday's report) Kyukamura RunRun: 100cm, -2° Tangram Ski Circus: 65cm, -3° (yesterday's report) Madarao Kogen: 80cm, 0° (yesterday's report) Lotte Arai Resort No report; the Lotte worldwide server is down! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning and Happy Christmas to everyone from Hakuba. It's good to feel much colder this morning and it really is a beautiful morning. The sun is out and there are clear blue skies over Hakuba. Resorts are continuing to do their best with the snow we got - Cortina seem to gradually be opening more (with Rabbit and Kamoshika runs now available), as do Tsugaike Kogen, though I notice that the low-lying Hakuba Sanosaka ski hill in the southern area of Hakuba has closed again this morning. It was partly open over the weekend, but there's not enough snow for them to keep going today. So we wait for some good snowfall to arrive. The forecasts are still looking very promising from Thursday onwards with lots of snow forecast for the entire region. I am going to enjoy being out on the mountain this morning just keeping an expectant eye on those forecasts, hoping that it all happens... ----- Hakuba Happo-one - The lower courses at Happo-one are not open yet - use the Adam Gondola, Kokusai Number 1 pair or Sakka Kitaone quad lift to get back to base. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 12cm Snowfall at base this season 75cm Posted on Monday 24th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. Some annoying rain yesterday but let's quickly get onto the good news - fresh snow! Resorts around the area are reporting 10cm of fresh; my enthusiastic friend reporting 20cm (his numbers are always bigger than anyone elses!). I am measuring 12cm and hopefully we will get some more during the day today. Sun likely tomorrow but later in the week there's some really cold conditions along with heavy snow on the forecast. That is looking very good. More lifts and courses are trying to get open as we play with the snow we got. Most of the ski hills of Shiga Kogen are now at least part open. This morning the Higashitateyama gondola, but the Higashiyama slope is not open yet as there is not enough snow. The Gondola is effectively currently used to get to the (part) open Terakoya and Ichinose areas. So things remain all a bit dis-connected, but if we get that heavy snow later in the week we should see things opening up pretty quickly. The below information is manually checked for each report. • Hakuba Now: Monday 24th December 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 8cm Snowfall at base this season 72cm Posted on Monday 24th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Hello on this Christmas Even from Hakuba. Yesterday, unfortunately, we did get some rain as those temperatures stubbornly remain too mild. But I am happy to be able to report some fresh snowfall this morning and colder conditions. Not a huge amount but most welcome all the same. Here is what the ski resorts themselves are reporting this morning: Happo-one: 20cm (top Gondola station) Cortina: 15cm (base), 15cm (top) Hakuba 47: 5cm (base), 10cm (top) Iwatake: 10cm (base), 10cm (top) Light snow falling this morning and varied visibility depending on where you are. We can perhaps expect some clearer conditions later on and tomorrow too. It looks like there is a bit of lift disruption at Happo-one at the start of the day but hopefully that will sort itself out quickly. Keep your eyes and expectations set to 'Very High' for the consistent heavy snowfall that is promised (I'm taking it as a promise anyway!) on the forecast - starting from Thursday and running at least through the weekend. If that forecast comes off, we'll see a real transformation of conditions and some very happy smiles. Including my own. Can we end the year in true Hakuba style?
