The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Geto. After the sleet and kind of miserable stuff yesterday morning, it turned into snow. And this morning... much better! Around 20cm of new snowfall down low and over 25cm being reported by the ski area. It's cloudy now with some light snow possibly during the day. Still not enough to open but good to see a decent layer out there. • Niseko Now: Sunday 4th December 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 18cm Snowfall at base this season 81cm Posted on Sunday 4th December 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here I have more gore good news this morning with just under 20cm of new snow to report since yesterday. It did actually feel relatively mild later in the day yesterday, but even so we still got the goodies... and there's more to come. Continued snowfall is on the forecast and it feels pretty cold again this morning. Niseko Grand Hirafu opens from this morning with the base Ace Family Quad joining in the fun. So only Hanazono (and the small Asahigaoka) are not open, with operations limited to lower areas. If we do get that regular snowfall shown on forecasts over the coming days, we can probably expect more to be opening up quite quickly. A few things: The early season can sometimes be a mad rush of information that changes by the hour (or minute). I am going to do my best to bring you as much good and correct information each morning. Please remember that things can change quickly. And also that I am not perfect (even with all the toast I eat). It's also important to remember that I am not here to create hype and sell you on Niseko; I am simply here to tell you what is happening. Snowfall numbers that are reported by the ski areas - as I post them below - sometimes seem wonky and do not seem to add up. Frustrating? For sure! But think of it as just part of the, er, 'fun'. I recommend pinches of salt and not losing sleep over it. A shout out and sincere thanks to the good people responsible for the Niseko Avalanche Report, and everyone involved in getting our mountain up and running too. Let's hearty and safety snowsports with us! ---------- Niseko Avalanche Report Mountain base -3℃, 15cm snowfall in 12h. Coastal data: Cape Kamui WNW14m/s, Cape Benkei WNW 11m/s, 1015hPa, wave 2.0m. Winter type weather pattern. Mountain data not available. We are in a typical winter weather pattern with blizzards on the seas and mountains. Although there is only a small amount of snow, there has been snow drift development on leeward slopes below 800m. From data and snowfall transition there is a risk of avalanches on SE faces around 800m due to snow drifts fracturing. Avoid SE faces, cornices and knolls above 900m. There isn't much snow yet, be careful on uneven terrain. Also the poor light today doesn't help. Gates are not open yet. Please respect and follow Niseko Rules. Thank you to the patrol, groomers and lifties for your safety. This information is produced from the cooperation of mountain staff at all ski areas. Be careful to avoid accidents. Have a good day. ---------- Individual ski area operations: Sunday 4th December 2022 The below snow depth and snowfall numbers are manually checked each morning from official sources. • Myoko Now: Sunday 4th December 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 5cm Posted on Sunday 4th December 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Snow has made it down to the base level; it's melted since then, so I almost forgot to put up a weekend/new week report as we get closer to official opening dates. The first snowfall below the ski area; always fun (and exciting with some last-minute prep always needed, for me tire chains on a front loader) but we also know that the early season snow really doesn't mean much. I've said it before, but there are many years when we wonder if we'll even get a white Christmas, and then the snow really starts falling and everything is buried again. I will say that we haven't had the heavy, limb-breaking November snows that I remember from past decades. That early snow helped get things done, though. Lots of panicked mounting of snow tires, a sudden blooming of road-marking bamboo wands, that kind of thing. The snow will come, that is the main thing. OK, so when will the resorts open? They have been pretty optimistic in recent years. The official ski jo biraki (ski area opening ceremony) was held on the first; I will say that a manager from one of the resorts admitted that, looking at the long-term forecast, it was highly unlikely that the mid-December opener would happen. We can wait for the good, natural snow (we don't need no stinking snow-making guns in Myoko!). The latest Niseko Now report can be found here First of all, fresh snowfall. Another 12cm since yesterday. Nice. It's Saturday 3rd December and the first official day of the Niseko ski season for three of the ski areas here. There's still not a huge amount of snow around and so operations are limited to only some lower areas, and Niseko Grand Hirafu and Hanazono have decided to sit out today. Regular snow is still on the forecasts over the coming days and so hopefully we can expect things to expand quite quickly. Anyway, four ski lifts are scheduled to be open from this morning, all servicing limited lower slopes at the respective ski area. Niseko Annupuri: Dream Number 1 quad (9:00am-3:30pm) Niseko Village: Community Chair and Banzai Chair (8:30am-3:30pm) Niseko Moiwa: Number 1 pair (8:30am-3:30pm) Cheaper lift tickets are generally available until 16th December. However, due to the limited operations, a ticket today for Annupuri is a specially cheap 2,700 yen. (I cannot find such information for Village and Moiwa this morning. Perhaps it's a secret!) ---------- Individual ski area operations: Saturday 3rd December 2022 The below snow depth and snowfall numbers are manually checked each morning from official sources. Yesterday there was over 12cm and 4cm at base since yesterday, with over 20cm being reported by the ski area in higher elevations. It's great to see snow, but it's not enough for the ski area to open. Hopefully there will be more snow tonight and into tomorrow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 51cm Posted on Friday 2nd December 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here 2pm update: The ski areas have made their decisions (* though I suppose they are all subject to change). Niseko HANAZONO and Niseko Grand Hirafu have delayed their opening until there's more snow. So they do not plan to open tomorrow. Hirafu are reporting 10cm of snow at the top of the Ace Number 3 pair lift and 20cm by the base. (Interesting numbers). Niseko Annupuri plan to open just their base beginner area from 9:00am tomorrow. The Dream Number 1 quad lift is scheduled to be open. Tickets will be 2,700 yen for adults and 1,700 yen for children of elementary school age. Niseko Village plans to be 'part open', without offering further details. Niseko Moiwa also seem to be planning on opening their Number 2 pair lift tomorrow. So there we have it. Tomorrow is the official start of the Niseko season. It will be very limited, but... yey! It's still snowing but has been a bit on and off this lunchtime. (Please note that apart from this updated text, all the other data in this report remains from the original morning report). ---------- Original morning report: Good morning everyone. There's more good snow news to report this morning with another 20cm since my last report. I like two digit numbers where the first digit is 2. (I like ones that start with 3 even more, but I must refrain from being too greedy so early on). Remember, this is around base, so we can expect there to be more higher up on the mountain. And more is forecast to fall during the day today too. As I write this it is actually quite bright in places, though snow is still falling outside my place. Enough to open tomorrow? As far as I can tell, the only ski area related news I can find early morning is that Hanazono have delayed opening. I expect there to be some other announcements made by early afternoon. I will update this report later on today with any news... ---------- Planned opening dates: Niseko Village: Saturday 3rd December 2022 Niseko Annupuri: Saturday 3rd December 2022 Niseko Grand Hirafu: Saturday 3rd December 2022 [delayed] Niseko Hanazono: Saturday 3rd December 2022 [delayed] Niseko Moiwa: Saturday 3rd December 2022 Niseko Now 2022-2023 season Data as of Friday 2nd December 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 51cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 7 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 20cm (2nd December) November 2022 snowfall 17cm reported on 5 days December 2022 snowfall 34cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. All content is carefully created and written by humans who share a passion for the subject and what SnowJapan stands for. About SnowJapan.com About the daily reporting on SnowJapan.com
