Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 0cm Posted on Wednesday 9th November 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Hello everyone! After six months of hibernation, I'm back, out and about, and getting ready for the winter season. I was, of course, very happy to see the news about the Japanese borders re-opening. I am looking forward to seeing some old friends again and hopefully meeting new ones too. I know the situation isn't quite 'back to normal' in every respect, but I have sensed a real change since May. Some people remain very cautious, and everyone is pretty much still wearing masks, but there seems to be much less sense of worry and a willingness to get on with things. Let's hope that continues, that flights to Japan increase, that the world stops being quite as bonkers as it is, and all that kind of stuff. The ski areas in Niseko plan to open on Saturday, 3rd December. So just three and a half weeks from now. As noted in the previous reports, there has been snowfall on the mountains over the last few weeks. A little snow remains at the top of our mountain this morning. It's a fine day with lots of blue skies and just a bit of cloud. That's it for the moment. Time for some toast. It's good to be back. I look forward to posting throughout the 2022-2023 Niseko season. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Geto Kogen. Hey it's the last day of April, but who wants some fresh snow?! Amazingly, the ski area this morning are reporting 16cm of fresh snow at base and just over 21cm higher up on the mountain. What about that then? Not only will that feel good under the plank(s), but it has given everywhere a bit of a fresh white look. There's not that many clouds left around now and blue sky, so it is probably the best we could hope for on 30th April. I almost don't want to mention it, but we need to be ready for a good chance of some rain coming our way tomorrow. More sunshine due beyond that. Courses & lifts: The Number 1 gondola and Number 1 pair lifts plan to be operating for this last section of the season. Most normal rums remain at least part open. Daily checks are being made on opening to decide on what courses are open each day. Tree run courses now closed for the season. - Niseko Now: Friday 29th April 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1137cm Posted on Friday 29th April 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning from Niseko. It's Friday but it's a national holiday and the first day of Golden Week. This is how the national holidays line up over the coming days: 29th April is Showa Day 3rd May is Constitution Memorial Day 4th May is Greenery Day 5th May is Children's Day This morning it is kind of fine, but not in that lovely blue sky kind of fine. Lighter blue with thin cloud is perhaps the best explanation? Hirafu and Annupuri should be opening as planned. Sunshine is due tomorrow but there's some more rain due at times the few days after. Not perfect Golden Week weather, for sure. Fingers crossed it ends up being better than the forecast. ----- While enjoying my toast this morning at 7:30am I caught an NHK piece about Niseko. It was less than 30 minutes long, but ended up being a rather thoughtful look at Niseko. About the beauty of nature and our snow and why Niseko has become so popular. About how the area has changed over recent years, especially with the 'inbound' thing starting up. About how things are really quiet at the moment right now due to you-know-what, but investment and development still continues. About how local Japanese owners of accommodations and businesses have gradually disappeared (to be replaced by big-money companies). About how some people question what everything means, both in personal terms and the bigger picture. Is it all just about money? I didn't think it wasn't downbeat. More... thoughtful. I found myself nodding and agreeing with various points being made. I definitely know the kind of lifestyle I choose. ----- Planned ski area operations: Friday 29th April 2022 The below snow depth and snowfall data is manually checked each morning from official sources.
