The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Morning from Yuzawa. Lots of cloud around yesterday, but we did get to enjoy some blue skies and a bit of sunshine at times. This morning - we're back to snow. 26cm of fresh snowfall measured this morning - Kagura are reporting 40cm and Maiko are reporting 20cm. Snow is forecast for today with clearer skies and maybe sunshine tomorrow. ----- Seems like wind is affecting some lifts this morning. The Tashiro Area of Kagura is closed today due to wind conditions. Kagura is open up until the Kagura Number 1 romance pair lift (at the start of the day). The Southern Area of Kagura is closed today as they cope with all the snow. Other areas of GALA are open as normal. The upper Kogen area of Yuzawa Kogen is also closed. Maiko are also warning that wind might affect some lifts, but not being specific. There is still quite a lot of cloud up there, but there are already breaks in the cloud and some blue sky to be seen as well as a bit of sunshine. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. This morning Kagura are reporting 30cm of fresh snowfall and Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 20-30cm. We have measured 32cm in town (and 35cm to the north of Yuzawa in the Shiozawa area of Minamiuonuma) and that what is going on the report. All those numbers sound like a good start to February! Visibility is very limited in places though this morning and snow is forecast for most of the day today so not conditions for everyone. Cloud with light snow is forecast for tomorrow and then some sunshine on Sunday - along with those rather warm temps that we are expecting. ----- Looks like the Tashiro Area of Kagura is closed due to wind conditions. Other ski resorts appear to be opening as normal. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. By 5pm last night there was 20cm of snow since the morning and this morning I have just cleared another 6cm, so that makes 26cm in total to add to my report this morning. Light snow has been falling early on this morning but it seems to be quickly clearing and there's increasingly blue sky appearing over Yuzawa as I write this, with more cloud still to the north over Minamiuonuma. Tomorrow is still very likely to be sunny and warm with temps possibly rising to close on +10C in town in the afternoon. We can just hope that it quickly cools down again sometime on Monday, and happily we do have more snow lined up there on the forecast. All ski resorts in the area appear to be opening as planned this morning. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. And a very 'Happy New Year' to everyone celebrating the Chinese New Year! Yesterday was not a nice day weather-wise. Wet and mild (though actually when I was out it actually felt pretty chilly) and there was all sorts of weather news on the TV... record breaking temperatures and the like. Warm and wet spells have been known to happen in the middle of the winter season; it's what happens next that is important. There was that chance of snow on the forecast yesterday, but just 3-5cm is being reported by Kagura. There was actually a dusting of snow on our measuring point - just about enough for me to be able to justify adding 1cm to the reports this morning. I am probably being a bit kind there, but there have been days when I have ignored a few mm too, so I think it is fair. It is colder this morning which is good, currently around -1C, with temps due to rise to around +4C in town later on. We are also expecting sunshine and clearer skies today. Early on there's a bright but overcast feel to the morning with some blue sky in places. The forecasts show the next snowfall due for us around Thursday, with a better chance of a decent amount of fresh around Saturday. For now the best snow conditions will be found the higher you go. Groomers should be good though and as long as it doesn't warm up too much it should be a nice day. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. After that rather prolonged spell of mild (with a bit of rain added into the mix last night), it is sure good to see some fresh snow this morning. Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 5-10cm and Kagura are reporting 10cm. I have measured 8cm. So that gives you a good idea of what to expect. Not enough to give us a deep fresh cover yet, but an improvement and hopefully we will get some more today (though I'm not sure we should expect too much). The forecasts are still looking good for the chance of some fairly regular snow over the coming week. It's noticeably colder too and temps today should remain just under zero. Monday is a national holiday in Japan so the upcoming weekend is a long 3-day one for many. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Snow most of the day yesterday which was good to see and I cleared away 15cm of snow last night and there's 1cm more there this morning. Kagura this morning are reporting 10cm of fresh snowfall and Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 5-10cm. This morning it is generally cloudy over the region. Sounds like it is going to be snowing in Tokyo this morning. Heavy snow alert! 5cm! Here in Snow Country we can have a bit of a laugh at such a small amount, but if you're not prepared for it or used to it, just a bit of snow can cause big problems. This weekend is one of the most popular of the season because Monday is a national holiday. The weather conditions in the capital region may well put some people off being away for the weekend... The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good news! A decent amount of fresh snowfall since yesterday, mostly overnight. Maiko are reporting 20cm overnight and Kagura are reporting 30cm. We have measured and just wiped 28cm off our measuring point this morning. (Didn't do that yesterday so that is from yesterday morning). Kagura are reporting some moderate wind higher up but for the moment all appears to be open as normal. It is still snowing, though expected to ease off. Currently -3C so it feels nice and cold. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. No fresh snow overnight - just a dusting - but there was 6cm by the evening yesterday. Popular ski resorts around Yuzawa were looking very busy yesterday! It's not often these days that you see long lines for ski lifts. Not ideal for people waiting in them perhaps, but it is good to resorts enjoying popularity. We can surely expect a busier-than-normal Monday today, but things should be getting quieter in the afternoon as lots of folk start to make their way back home. It is a cold and icy morning, currently -4C just after 8am. We are due more snowfall once again tomorrow. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday slowly cleared up and ended up with lovely clear skies by later in the afternoon. We're back to snow this morning and 13cm of new snow just measured here in town. It's actually coming down really nicely at the moment; big flakes. Light snow seems to be the forecast for the day and tomorrow too, so we should be seeing more cm pile up. Both Kagura and Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 15cm of fresh snowfall. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. It's still snowing. Not huge numbers - 8cm by last night and an additional 7cm this morning, and so I am adding 15cm to the report this morning. For the record, Kagura are reporting 5cm and Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 5-10cm. Light snow seems to be what all the forecasts are telling us to expect for the day today, easing off by tonight; and then some more light snow early tomorrow and maybe we will see some sunshine on Friday. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. More snow with another 15cm since my report yesterday morning. (Kagura are reporting 20cm and Maiko are reporting 10cm, though those are presumably 'overnight' numbers). So another nice layer of snow to play in this morning and it is still snowing though expected to ease during the morning leaving us just with cloudy skies later. There may be some sun in the morning tomorrow... and then back to snow on Saturday. We have returned to some good consistency which is always good to be able to report.
