Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 40cm Snowfall at base this season 819cm Posted on Tuesday 11th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Morning from Naeba. It's snowing again/still! A fresh, soft, and light 40 cm layer was found this morning. However, it's also very windy again, so only four bottom lifts are open: High-Speed Lift 4, High-Speed Lift 5, Pair Lift 4, and High-Speed Lift 3. Visibility is poor, but the deep powder turns on the black runs off Lift 3 are amazing. Despite the public holiday, the crowds are still light. Mikuni Pass towards Sarugakyo is closed until 8 PM tonight. Tomorrow should be calmer and perhaps even sunny. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 8cm Snowfall at base this season 667cm Posted on Tuesday 11th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Yep, lots more snow. Not a huge amount down at base, but ski areas are yet again reporting 30+cm on the mountain. Official snow depth numbers at 47 and Goryu now both hitting 5m. Right now it is snowing outside but I can see some hints of blue sky up on upper webcams of Goryu. May well be temporary with limited to poor visibility in other areas. There's more possibly heavy snow due going into Thursday. But beyond that it does look like the snow might ease off. We may even get to enjoy some clearer and sunny weather at the weekend. That would be a treat! In the meantime, super care required with all the snow out there. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 399cm Posted on Tuesday 11th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Good Morning Skiers and Boarders, Like so many times this season, a promising snow dies out in a few hours. Sigh. Only 5 cm of new stuff today. Better than nuttin', I suppose, but not by much. Today is a national holiday celebrating the founding of Japan, hence translated as Foundation Day. I'm sure they're not alluding to the Isaac Asimov books, but what if they were?? Anyway, for your edification from Wikipedia: "February 11 is the accession date of the legendary first Emperor of Japan, Emperor Jimmu at Kashihara-gū, converted into Gregorian calendar of 660 BC." So Japan, as an entity is only 2,685 years old. Take THAT to the bank you European and European-derived upstart countries!! Due to the national holiday, night skiing will run to 7:30 PM. Also, tomorrow night is the annual Mid-Winter Beer Party. All-you-can-drink beer. Need I say more? That should draw in the hordes. Oh, also taiko drumming, local food, and a raffle with some great prizes. Think snow. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . A little later report today (after powder on green runs yesterday!), and pleased to say that all the resorts have new information up! Must have been reading SnowJapan.... I'd like to think it was the power of the press, but I kind of doubt that. More snow again, with lots of beautiful snowflake-shaped flakes coming down. A few flakes are still coming down, but very light. The sun is even starting to come through a thin cloud layer... Which would help bring down the slabs of snow on the roofs. It really has been cohesive snow, sliding off in big blocks. Just hope it doesn’t do the same thing up on the mountain! It’s not the end of the snow, though, as more is forecast today and tomorrow and later in the week as well. We measured 30 cm of fresh, light snow this morning, and Gondola 2 has opened as scheduled. Both Dragondola and the Tashiro area of Kagura are closed today. Since tomorrow is a public holiday, many have a long weekend, so we can expect busy slopes today. Visibility is fair at the base but poor at higher elevations. We've seen many people ducking the ropes, venturing into unknown areas, and getting stuck in deep snow - please don’t do this. As many black runs as possible are open while maintaining safety, but there are still deep cracks hidden beneath the snow in prohibited zones. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . No so much snow since yesterday morning, actually. As you can see below, 0-10cm is being reported across the ski areas. We are used to so much more! ;) Is that the chance of some sunshine I see on forecasts for tomorrow afternoon? I think it is! Not before more snow tonight, though. OK just for fun, and so you don't have to look yourself, here are the 'total accumulated snowfall' numbers at the 10 ski areas in 'the valley', as on the official Hakuba Valley website, as of today. Obviously, that Tsugaike number is incorrect as it should be up there near the top. Some of the others seem suspiciously low too, considering the snowfall we have got this season.
