Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 1441cm Posted on Monday 24th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . There wasn’t much fresh snow early this morning, but it has really picked up since about 6:30. Let’s say 10cm and counting... Not much to say except heavy snow as usual; can’t see anything outside my windows, and I’ll need to dig those out pretty soon as well. Sounds like that’s been a problem for ski areas all over Niigata. I think that’s why we saw, for example, Lotte Arai only running the bottom lifts just before this three-day weekend; they were probably digging out the important upper lifts for the crowds that are definitely here. Long lift lines yesterday in many of the resorts, and packed parking lots. Going to head up the hill in a minute, unfortunately not to go skiing but to help others get dug out (and protect windows and roofs). Not much snow being reported from around the ski areas this morning, but I have observed a little that has now gone from roads. Whatever, come tomorrow generally clearer skies, calm wind and gradually increasing temperatures seems to be what to expect over the coming week. It is one of those days when I disagree with the official data on snowfall. Madarao is this morning reporting 9cm (or 10cm). My measurement is 24cm. So, a good new layer of fine snow to enjoy again on a cold morning. We still expect quite a lot of clearer skies and milder weather in the coming week. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 23cm Snowfall at base this season 1431cm Posted on Sunday 23rd February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . An early start today, since I have business on the hill (ah, the morning commute on the chairlift... it’s a hard life). Nice snowfall overnight, and light, too with cold temperatures. Not a huge amount once again; some people are reporting more snow was falling along the coast, in Joetsu City and other areas. That happens if we get a west wind, or really the diversion of northwest winds to the west and up the coast (maybe being deflected by the Noto Peninsula? Meteorologist, please weigh in). Lots of people have noticed the good snow, though; the Akakan parking lot was full just after 8 today. Looks like all the lifts are ready to go, although Lotte Arai doesn’t have any confirmed lifts yet. They were busy digging them out earlier for this three-day weekend, so I’d expect the gondola and upper Zendana lift should be going. The Kokenashi lift is marked as not running, though.
