We are already in the second half of November and after a long and generally hot summer - even up in the mountains - followed by a beautiful autumn, we have already seen the first snowfall of the season cover on the slopes of Madarao Kogen. Madarao Kogen this season aims to 'pre-open' on the 8th and 9th December, with a full resort opening on Saturday 15th. Lets hope the snow arrives and we can hit those dates. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . A little bit of sun - finally - as we enter the Golden Week weekend. Still some clouds/fog over the ski areas, but the mists did open up long enough this morning to show that there is fresh snow and white-covered trees from the top of the ski areas up. It's been pretty cold over the last few days, too, so the remaining snowpack is hanging on just fine. Still pretty cold today, although hopefully we'll see more sun, and a little more springlike conditions. It is spring, after all (even if the snow did fall in May!). Both Akakan's upper runs and Seki are open. ---- Akakura Kanko: Open until 6th May - Sky Cable gondola and No. 3 lift, Hotel No. 5 lift). Seki Onsen: Plan to be open until 6th May. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Snow on the ground this morning; not a lot, but it did hint at the pretty cold temperatures today (the woodstove has been put back into service). A little windy at times, but the lifts are going at Akakan and Seki, and there's still plenty of snow on the ground. The spring backcountry season also officially kicked-off with the opening of Koya Ike Hut, at the base of Mt. Hiuchi. Seki Onsen are actually reporting 20-30cm of new snow this morning! I'm getting a bit dizzy; is this early November, or almost-May? OK, it may be sticky, wet snow, but it's fresh and it's just keeping things going... The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Not all the official reports are in, but I'm off to hike in the woods--and it's a perfect day for it! A big blue sky, a nice dusting of fresh snow (enough to cover up the kosa - the Gobi desert sands that blow in during the spring). The day is starting a bit cold, but it's going to be warm and springlike again (continuing our weather roller coaster ride). Looks like a few days at least of sun and blue skies, before there's a possibility of rain. Hopefully which will disappear as we get into the weekend (enough gray ice under the snow! Time for spring skiing!) The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Winter has really come back with a roar -- snow, cold and high wind. Another of those days when it's hard to tell how much actually fell overnight, with lots of drifting around the house. Probably not all that much yet, but the rate of snowfall has really picked up. A lot of locals were hoping for the March powder that has been a highlight of the last few years, and here it is.... Now, since I wrote that an hour or so ago (waiting for the local snow reports to come in), the sun has started to come out and the snow has tapered out. The snow keeps coming on and off, though, but luckily the wind has come down, meaning less likelihood of lift closures. So come out and enjoy! It has been a sunny day in Myoko; things were getting pretty spring-like out there -- crumbling snow walls, some soft snow in places, hard in the shade. Nice views of the mountains at the end of the day. OK, a short message today after a super long one yesterday (and no new snow, so nothing really important to say). Tomorrow all set to be warm too. Rain is looking likely later on before snow into Saturday, fingers crossed. (The snow bit, not the rain bit). The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . A stand in reporter today from Myoko as the famous Mr Myoko Now takes a well-earned rest after an eventful day/night... I think he will very probably tell you more about all of that in his report tomorrow. Anyway, snow yesterday and a bit more overnight amounting to perhaps 30cm in total again. Strong winds on the mountain overnight though in particular, meaning that there's deeper pockets in places. This morning the wind has dropped down and we have been treated to a bluebird day. Lovely skies and perfect weather for skiing and boarding with views! Excellent snow conditions too. It was a cold start but has warmed up early afternoon. We're set for a few days of milder temperatures now before likely snowfall in the run up to the weekend. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Yesterday was one of the classic Myoko snow days. So much snow, and it kept on coming. Since the report yesterday morning there has got to be another 40cm to add to the snowfall in this latest storm - 30cm or so yesterday and another 10cm overnight. Earlier on got a bit of sun but it's a mostly cloud morning in Myoko with light snow showers in places. A clearing pattern is due though and tomorrow might be one of those lovely sunny days. Or it might not, depends on whether the forecast is right. I reckon we're on for one of those though. It does look fairly sure though that milder temps are due along with more sun than snow from tomorrow through until near the end of the week. Topup of fresh snow just before the weekend. For now though, large volumes of quality snow and excellent conditions. Just don't overdo it and remember the potential dangers. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Sorry about yesterday - a little glitch on my side (an iPhone that refused to send, while on a break from having too much fun in a lot of new snow). The report was written though, it just didn't 'go' unfortunately. Anyway after a nice, sunny Friday, the snow really turned on yesterday, with -- what should we say? 50cm? 70cm? I was skiing in it, so I'm allowed some hyperbole. A lot. Then the stars came out last night, lulling some into thoughts of another sunny day - but no! Another 30 cm or so again today. To say that snow conditions will be excellent today would be an understatement.
