It's been snowing moderately to heavy all morning, and we're stretching towards 10cm of new accumulation; a welcome surprise for those of you who were up and out there early this morning. Temperatures overnight were cold with lows around -20, but have now rebounded to -5 thanks to a change in wind direction that also brought on all this snow. Visibility levels are a little low due to all the snow coming down, but the weather should get better over the afternoon hours. It doesn't look like we'll make it back to blue skies, but at least the snow should let up towards the latter half of the day. The good news is there will be plenty of powder for those who want it! The latest Furano Now report can be found here . There was a dusting of about 2cm overnight and the day started with low cloud, very flat light and cold temperatures. As the morning progressed the light improved to make those bumps and the ground in general more visible. At the same time the snow started again and deposited about 4cm on the ground in just a couple of hours. The mountain had been extensively groomed but on the upper slopes had 7cm of fresh powder on top of the grooming and around 2cm on the lower slopes. The cold weather must have encouraged a lot of people to stay in bed this morning as there was hardly anyone out on the mountain during the first part of the morning. The forecast for the next couple of days looks to be very similar to today - more continuous light snow. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The day started off overcast with low light making the dips and bumps in the ground difficult to see. There hasn't quite been enough snow to cover the rain damage from a couple of days ago so the slopes are still a little icy or more accurately frosty. Around 11am the sun broke through the clouds and the resort is bathing in sun. This has softened the frosty slopes just enough to make the day all that more pleasurable. The forecast is looking good for the next couple of days with moderate snow expected tonight and then continuous snow through until Friday evening. Looks like it could be a great weekend. If you didn't get too festive last night you are probably already on the lifts making first tracks for 2013 in the new snow that fell yesterday and overnight. Conditions have turned cold again and the snow quality is good although there will be a wind effect evident in the snow. The icy layer that was evident yesterday will be starting to disappear and we will soon be back to a powder base. Winds were moderate early this morning but have quietened down since then and all lifts are currently in operation. If you do have a sleep in to welcome in the new year you can make up for it by trying night skiing on either side of the mountain up until 8:30pm. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It was a fantastic weekend with some superb snow on the slopes, and the new week has kicked off with an amazing sunny day with crisp blue skies. The clear skies have been accompanied by some very very cold temperatures though with thermometres plunging below -20c. Now even the locals refer to these temperatures as cold so be sure to layer up and perhaps put some of the wonder heat pads in your gloves to help fight the cold. Night skiing is now in full swing through to 8pm on both sides of the resort. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is currently snowing lightly and there has been a couple of centimetres accumulation on the ground in the village. It looks like it will continue to snow lightly throughout the day so it will be one of those days with a constant fresh layer of powder being continually draped across the runs. Temperatures are once again in the double negatives, and with the breeze it does feel on the chilly side. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The temperatures have been relatively warm for this time of year, climbing as high as -2 for the afternoon highs. This means all the snow we've been getting recently is a bit higher in moisture content than the dry, powder snow we are used to seeing in Furano. On the plus side, the total accumulations are up, so there is plenty of the white stuff to go around. Kitanomine's Premium Zone was scheduled to open today, but all the big, fluffy flakes have made for somewhat unsafe conditions. Rather than risk any potential avalanches, they announced today that the opening of the course will be delayed for the moment. When they do finally get it open, it should be absolutely prime for deep powder skiing. Another 5+ centimeters fell overnight, and we awoke yet again to the sound of people scraping off their driveways and brushing off their cars. It snowed off and on throughout the morning, but things have quieted down for the afternoon. Things should remain relatively dry for the rest of the night, but tomorrow looks like it will bring another round of snow! The winter weather just doesn't seem to stop this year. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The big story of the day is the 10-15cm we got blasted with yesterday afternoon and into the evening. The official forecast had called for snow showers with little to no accumulation, but the winds decided to favor us with a new blanket of the fluffy stuff. Those out there yesterday afternoon and early this morning were in for a big treat, as there were powder troves for everyone to be found around the mountain. In other news, Kitanomine Zone is now partially open for skiing! For all you powder hounds out there ready to get at the freshly unlocked courses, please remember that snow depths on the Kitanomine Zone side of the mountain are somewhat less than that of the Furano Zone. There may be a few bushes here and there peaking through that snowpack, so be careful on those first few runs. However, on the whole this is great news, as it means that there is a whole lot of new terrain to explore for those of us who have already been out a few times this season. It's currently -3 and cloudy with little chance of snow for the rest of the day. The sun looks like it might make its way through the cloud cover, warming things up a bit for those of you on the slopes this afternoon. Visibility is perfect, and winds are light and southerly. All in all, it's a great day to be out there on the mountain. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is a picture perfect day with no cloud over the ski area and blue skies highlighting the white of the ski area. The key word today is cold...with -10c at the base and -12c at the top. There hasn't been any fresh snow overnight but we have snow forecast for tomorrow where temperatures will also warm up substantially. The slopes are in fine condition for this time of year and the mountain is skiable from top to bottom. As we get more snow expect more of the mountain to be opened up. The upper slopes are a soft powder base while the lower half of the mountain is a harder packed powder base. Temperatures have taken a plunge since a day ago and it is starting to feel really wintery in Furano, so if you have been delaying the purchase of a decent pair of gloves now would be the time to splash out. Later today the upper mountain will move into the double digit negatives. Yesterday there was 5cm of new snow and another 4cm overnight so conditions are perfect for carving those edges down Sailer. More snow is forecast to fall today and tomorrow. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . If yesterday was good today is even better with a nice fresh layer of powder on the upper mountain. The runs have been nicely groomed but there are some nice pow stashes to the sides. It was snowing heavily at village level early morning but the snow has stopped for now. On the upper mountain it is still snowing lightly. Temperatures should gradually lower during the day. Furano Ropeway is open 8:30-14:40 for access to the upper mountain and the skiable lift is Furano Romance lift 2 open 8:45-15:00. At the moment the skiing is restricted to the upper mountain and to return to base it is necessary to use Furano Ropeway. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The winter weather has truly settled in and we have woken up this morning to find the first significant snowfall at village level. Currently there is 5cm on the ground in the village, but on the upper mountain there is a depth of around 30cm. With more snow forecast throughout the week and temperatures consistently below freezing the ski area opening will not be too far away.
