It was a cold start too, though we are set to warm up quickly during the day today. Looks like lots of areas are going to be on the receiving end of some rain on Saturday. Hopefully up here we can avoid that if temperatures stay lower. We certainly have a better chance than lots of other places, so fingers crossed. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Early on this morning we were still in snowy mode, and there's 10-20cm or so fresh to report (wind has blown it around) but as I write this report close to 11am the sun is out here in the Maruike part of Shiga Kogen. The clouds have lifted, visibility is much better. Light snow still lazily falling from the skies, though I think that will soon be finishing up. Forecast for the coming week is a mix of clearer skies and the odd snow shower but nothing major with a distinctly mild end to the week on the cards. That's a number of days away though so may well change. In the meantime, some very good snow conditions to enjoy. It may be a weekend but it doesn't generally seem over busy out on the lifts. There are some off movements in the official snow depth numbers below of late. I think some resorts forget to adjust a few days and then suddenly take a big jump. Or perhaps it's the wind. But they are all increasing so that's the most important thing! All is good. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Some good snow falling this morning in Shiga Kogen. Perhaps 10cm or so to report but definitely more on the cards with the way it is coming down now. A moderately strong wind blowing it all about here in the Maruike area as well, though winds don't seem to be closing down lifts this morning at the moment - but we can probably expect some of the more exposed area lifts to be running at a reduced speed. Roads are covered in snow but traffic seems to be moving at a decent speed as people arrive for the weekend. So its snow wind and cold for the day today. Tomorrow looking likely to be calmer. Enjoy! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . After that warm day yesterday, it's all somewhat colder this Friday morning. And I'm happy to report that snow started falling this morning and it is coming down now. Not a huge amount and it's not really 'full on' yet - at least here in the Maruike part of Shiga Kogen - but with this snow storm forecast to continue today and tomorrow at least, we could be in for a nice new layer. There's a moderate wind as well but resort lifts seem to be open ok so far. Visibility generally ok this morning here but I can see it is less so up in the Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama area which is considerably more cloud covered, and the snow seems to be falling at a really pleasing rate up there too. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The snow continued yesterday and we pretty much avoided rain up here and even got a few more cm out of it in places. This morning the skies are clearer and while we have a thin cloud layer the sun is shining through it at the moment and it is a bright morning. Most importantly it's much colder than it was yesterday and we are back down to something more like the kind of temperatures that we are used to in January. More sun tomorrow before the snow clouds move in and bring us snow on Friday, is what the most recent forecast says. Sounds good to me. Lots of snow please. It's one of those days when it's clear how things are going to be right from the get go and some early morning light blue skies all around. Not a cloud to be seen. From here in Maruike anyway. Going to be a very fine day. It's a cold start too. -10C in this part of Shiga Kogen, and I can see that Kumanoyu are reporting a low of -14.5C as of 7:30am. Inevitably with the sun it will warm up somewhat but hopefully generally keep cold. Looking at the forecast - snow tomorrow, clearer weather Wednesday and Thursday and then a potentially heavy-snow delivery along with storm-like conditions at the end of the week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The clouds moved back in yesterday and started to bring us some more snow. Probably 5-10cm or so in places and it is snowing still this morning in Shiga Kogen. A moderate wind blowing snow about as well and a temperature of -10 degrees here in Maruike so it feels like a proper winter morning here. All resort areas seem to be open as normal though, but we can expect some exposed lifts to be running slower than usual. Tomorrow the forecast is for clear skies again and sun. Next exciting looking cold snap due by the end of the week, we'll keep an eye on that. In the meantime good conditions to enjoy. We probably clocked up another 10-15cm of snow yesterday, but the clouds have moved on by this morning and we are left with lots of blue sky above Shiga Kogen and the sun is out doing it's thing. Lovely morning. Keeping nice and cold as well at the moment with a cold -10C outside at the moment. Let's hope it keeps that way. Conditions really good for the weekend with the new snowfall we have had. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . More snow this morning. It's really coming down here in Maruike as I write this. Heavy snow, moderately strong winds and visibility very poor. What this means is that we have had a really good amount of fresh snow this week. It takes a lot for some of the resorts around Shiga Kogen to change their snow depth numbers, and so with some of the big increases recently you can really believe that they had a good new amount of snow. How much since yesterday? Difficult to put a number on it because the wind has been blowing around but at least 20cm perhaps much more in places and it doesn't look like it wants to hold off yet either. Taking a look outside now it's almost complete whiteout conditions. Looks like Shibutoge and Higashitateyama are closed due to the conditions ast the moment with a few more lifts no doubt on reduced speed operations. After this snow storm has passed, clear conditions are forecast for the weekend and into next week. Weekenders should be very happy with what they get to play in tomorrow. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Change again this morning as Shiga Kogen is covered with cloud and we have perhaps around 5cm of new snowfall in places. Visibility is ok out there generally, it's just one of those silver.grey days. Just a slight wind. Tomorrow the forecast is for very cold temps dipping down to perhaps as low as minus 20 on the mountain along with more snow and a good chance of strong winds as well. Once we get into the weekend though fine conditions are probable and set to continue into the week as well. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . This morning seems to be the day when all the resorts suddenly decide to add a chunk of snow to their official snow depth numbers! Of course, a very decent snowfall helps and that is what has have had here. It is a colder morning and it is snowing. A lot. Very nice snowfall here. There's a wind as well that looks like it may affect operations in more exposed areas (Terakoya and Shibutoge looking the most at risk), but I think we'll all just be happy that we have a decent snowfall. Looks like it should ease off later today and might be sunny. Snow due back on Thursday! Should be great out there today.
