The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba! It's a bright and clear morning here, with the sun beating down into Mikuni valley. The air temperature is on the cool side at the moment, reading -10°C, however with this sunshine it feels more fresh rather than cold. We can expect the skies to remain clear for the best part of the skiing day, but clouds will push in this afternoon, potentially bringing a little snow with it. The wind is calm currently, but again as these clouds push in we should expect them to pick up a little later in the afternoon. The pistes are in fantastic condition this morning, with the fresh snow and cool temperatures that we have experienced recently. Looking forwards, we can expect a slightly warmer day tomorrow, with a lesser wind and some light snow showers. On Friday we will see significantly warmer temperatures, with daytime highs of around -3°C, pushing up to 3°C during Saturday day time. This indicates the arrival of our next significant storm system, binging with it heavy snow on Friday night. followed by light snow to the end of the current forecast. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . It's cool, fresh start to the day in Naeba today, with the air temperature reading -6°C. We had a little snow later in the afternoon yesterday, which continued to fall into the late evening, however accumulation was limited to 8cm. The pistes have certainly benefited from the top up, however a good dump of fresh snow is what's needed to really liven things up. As for today's weather so far, there is no precipitation...yet! But the wind is slowly picking up indicating we could expect "Storm Finn" to arrive later in the afternoon. We should expect a little snow overnight again tonight and for temperatures to hover just below 0°C. Looking forwards, there is a significant shift in the weather patterns we have been seeing over the past couple of weeks. Firstly, the temperature is expected to plummet down to as low as -15°C at the base on Saturday night, and day time highs are expected to be around -9°C. This, coupled with any wind chill, means that any snow which is falling is going to stay in fantastic condition. The snow accumulation predicted currently for "Storm Finn" is totaling 98cm at the base. Now, of course this predicted number will fluctuate as the week goes on, however that is a healthy figure to start the storm off. Of course, a far greater accumulation is expected higher up on the peaks. Coupled with this snow fall, we can expected some brisk winds, with the worst of these passing through on Thursday and Friday. It's great to be welcoming winter back into Mikuni valley! Yuki! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba! It's a snowy, windy start here at the base, with 20cm of fresh snow falling since approximately 1700 last night. The air temperature this morning is -8°C, however with the blustery conditions it will feel cooler than this. Although all of the lifts are due to open today, with the wind it seems likely that some may remain on standby until later in the day. The forecast suggests this squall should blow out of the valley this afternoon, giving way to a clear sky tonight and into tomorrow. The pistes, having had a dose of fresh snow on top, are in fabulous condition, and the ice which has plagued the lower slopes over the last couple of days ceases to be a problem. Looking forwards, things are meant to clear up significantly tomorrow and the sun should stick around until Tuesday night. Sadly, the forecast is still indicating rain at the base all of Wednesday. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba! It's a bright and crisp morning up here and the sun is shining! We have been gifted 5cm of fresh snow overnight, which will freshened up the crusty pistes from yesterday nicely. However, there is a slight sense of disappointment and 'dust on crust' in the air... perhaps we have all already been spoiled this season by the fantastic snow we received throughout December! There are a few low but light clouds clinging on to the mountains this morning, but it seems as though the sun will take care of those before lunchtime. The forecast suggests that we should expect light snow throughout today, however I'm not sure any moisture-bearing clouds will make it as far as the Mikuni valley during the daytime. You may notice that the piste under Prince Gondola No. 2 has been closed for a couple of days now. This is because of the fabulous glide cracks which have opened up under the gondola during that warm spell earlier this week. As you may know, once these have formed there isn't much anyone can do to manage them, meaning this piste may stay closed for sometime. Fortunately, however, temperatures are expected to remain firmly below 0°C for the next few days, giving the snowpack a chance to reconsolidate and hopefully stabilize somewhat. The forecast looking forwards still determinedly suggests snow through until as far as Sunday afternoon, however it doesn't seem as though there will be much accumulation. Temperatures will consistently remain below 0°C at the base of Naeba until after the weekend, meaning that any moisture which does get into the valley will fall as snow. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba! It's a cloudy overcast start to the day today, with this high cloud expected to hang around for a little while yet. Due to the high cloud, it's a day for the low light lenses to come out of their box. The temperature is below 0°C, but due to the cloud cover it feels a little milder than it might with clear skies. There is very little wind to concern us today. The Roxy Park is getting into the swing of things in Naeba, with a number of small kickers and boxes out under High Speed 5, but there are plenty more features still waiting to be dug out from under the old Pair lift there. Looking forwards, sadly the rain that has been forecast for Monday evening hasn't disappeared off the radar yet. At the base, temperatures are expected to rise well above 0°C later on Monday and through Monday night, providing the opportunity for rain to fall all the way up to the top of the mountain at 1789m. This should, however, turn to snow into Tuesday and could persist right through the week. A reasonably-sized storm system is being predicted, so another good dump of powder might be on the cards this week. One positive to note is that this coming storm system is expected to be far less windy than both "Storm Dougle" and "Storm Claudia". Yowai hikari! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba! The skies are finally clearing and I can see across the valley for the first time in 2018! It's a cool, crisp morning here, but the sun is out and is rapidly warming up the valley. The pistes have been well-groomed last night after the snow stopped falling, so there is abundant corduroy for everyone. The lack of wind will also be a real treat to those of you that can get up on the mountain today. We crossed an important milestone yesterday, with the cumulative snowfall so far this season surpassing the total snowfall of the season of 2015/16! It's a good start but let us not get complacent yet. It's important to note that the Dragondola will be opening at 1200 today, as they need to dig one of the towers out of the snow! The forecast suggests we should expect varied weather conditions today, with some sun mixed with cloud, and potentially even a small amount of snowfall up top this afternoon. Tomorrow it will likely be somewhat overcast, with the wind picking up slightly, bringing with it further small snow flurries. Into early next week, temperatures are likely to rise again, followed by the next storm system that will be travelling through the valley on Tuesday. Hayai! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning! The snow is still falling here in Naeba, with another 30cm added overnight to "Storm Dougle's" running total of 104cm. The wind has calmed down a lot today so everything is open in resort today. Skiing conditions should be a little more pleasant after yesterday's snow-blasting experience. The temperature is still comfortably below 0°C so make sure to wrap up warm today. The pistes are well groomed and should be in good condition throughout the day as the snow accumulation slows into this afternoon. Looking forwards, we should be expecting some moderate to light snow through into tonight, with things clearing up significantly tomorrow. It seems as though a far smaller storm system will drag through the valley on Saturday, to clear by the evening. Temperatures are expected to warm up over the weekend, in advance of the next larger storm system moving through. On Monday, heavy rainfall is currently forecast, however we will have to keep our eyes on that one to see if it plays out as predicted. Kode~yuroi! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning and a Happy New Year from Naeba! The snow is back already, however it's a gentle start to the next storm system travelling through. We've had 2cm of now overnight already, which is keeping the pistes in good condition. We are expecting the snow to continue throughout the day, however the heaviest snow is still to come. Looking forwards, the snow is set to continue all week, with the heaviest snow fall on Tuesday and Wednesday. Along with the snow, "Storm Dougle" is expected to bring with him some strong winds, particularly during Wednesday day time. Temperatures are also expected to be dropping well below 0°C and remain there for most of the week. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning! It's very snowy in Naeba this morning. The clouds rolled in around lunch time yesterday, and the snow began to fall as the sun set. Last night, we had received 10cm, but overnight was where the real magic happened with another 49cm accumulating. Visibility is currently very poor and the snow is still pounding down! The pistes will be deep and fresh, and as we have a good base across the mountain now it should be a fun day to get after it. It's time to dig out the fatter skis. The forecast looking forwards is for "Storm Claudia" proper to stick around for another 24 hours, however, snow fall will continue until Thursday morning but easing off significantly from currently accumulation rates. "Claudia" has brought some strong winds with her, which will continue throughout today resulting in a couple of lifts remaining on stand by. From Friday onwards the weather is looking to settle somewhat with dryer conditions moving forwards, but despite this we may not see the sun for a number of days yet. It looks like winter has struck and is here to stay! Deep! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning! A pink sun is rising on the beautifully white trees and peaks of Naeba! The pistes will be fresh and fun this morning, due to the 16cm of fresh snow which fell throughout yesterday day time. However, expect the clouds to be pushing back in this morning and conditions descending into a heavy snow storm by sunset. Perhaps we are just pausing in the eye of the storm. The forecast for the week indicates the heaviest snow will be falling this afternoon and tonight, however despite "Storm Claudia" easing off tomorrow morning, the snow will continue to fall until Friday. Along with this snow, a strong wind could affect skiers using the upper lifts of the resort, so please take care when cruising around Naeba over the next 48 hours. Temperatures are expected to plummet to well below 0°C tonight, and not raise above -7°C at the base. Cracking! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning and Happy Christmas from a very snowy Naeba! It looks like "Storm Claudia" has blown into town, bringing with her some snow! Cloud is blowing in and out of the valley currently, with visibility coming and going. Due to strong winds at the top of the mountain, the Dragondola and Takenokodaira lifts are on hold for the time being. It is a little gusty out there with low visibility so please do be care on your Christmas ski today. The forecast indicates that we should expect 7cm snow throughout today, meaning we will have to wait for the heaviest snowfall of the storm, which is expected to come on Tuesday night and through to Wednesday. "Claudia" is expected to stick around until Friday, so there should be plenty of snow to come. Happy Christmas! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning From Naeba! Yet again it is a beautiful blue bird day in the mountains. Yesterday, at almost exactly 12pm, the clouds rolled in and there was a dusting of 6cm of snow. It continues to be quiet, therefore the pistes are staying in excellent condition throughout the day. As always, Naeba's night skiing will be open until 2030 tonight. The forecast is for a clear, calm day today, with temperatures hovering around 0°C. Tomorrow we should expect some cloud and possible some small snow showers into the afternoon.
