The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday it was a mixed bunch of weather conditions in the area - light snow, cloudy, some blue sky, bit of sunshine. It couldn't make up it's mind. The snow didn't amount to much in the end, though snow clouds moved in overnight. As of 8:30am, there's 5cm to report here in town and this is how much fresh snowfall that resorts are reporting: Kagura: 20cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 15cm Tashiro: 10cm Maiko Snow Resort: dusting (7:15am) Just this last hour or so has been mixed conditions as well actually and right now there's even a bit of blue sky over parts of Yuzawa... The forecast though is for snowfall, with heavier conditions likely later on in the day and tonight with light snow forecast for the day tomorrow too. A good decent fresh layer is always welcome so let's hope we get that overnight. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from a snowy Yuzawa. After another day of mixed and sometimes confusing weather conditions that made the local weather forecasts look like pure guesswork, this morning there is a very nice new layer of fresh snow to report after the snow kicked in properly overnight. We are measuring 37cm of fresh snowfall here in Yuzawa, 34cm to the north in Shiozawa and here is what the resorts are reporting: Kagura: 40cm Kagura (Tashiro): 25cm Maiko Snow Resort: 30-40cm So wherever you are in the region this morning, you should be greeted by lots of fresh snow. It's still snowing and visibility generally limited to poor out there. The local forecasts says snow for the day today and into tomorrow (though they haven't been right over the last few days). The snow seems set in for the moment though so I would expect more cm through the day today at least. All resorts look like they should be open as normal today. Kagura are reporting 15-20cm and Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 10cm of fresh snowfall. My measurement is 12cm with more expected during the day today and tonight... and maybe tomorrow too with light snow still on the forecast. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The snow continued for lots of the day yesterday, though somehow it didn't build up to much in terms of new cm (or not as much as I thought it would). Anyway just under 10cm to report. Kagura are reporting 5-10cm of fresh snowfall and Maiko Snow Resort are also reporting 5-10cm. This morning, perhaps surprisingly, it is calm and overcast. But at the same time quite sunny. The local forecast still shows snow for the day, so it will be interesting to see if it starts falling once again. For the moment, it doesn't feel like it will. It feels relatively mind for the moment and today temperatures are likely to rise into low positive numbers. Taking a look beyond tomorrow, I noticed that some warm conditions are forecast Thursday and Friday. Perhaps rising to around 8C. The good news there is that come later Friday temperatures should be dropping once again and there should be more fresh snow on the ground by Saturday morning. It is great to see the official snow depth at GALA Yuzawa break through to over 4 metres. While day-by-day snow depths don't mean much really (it's fresh snow that counts when you're out skiing), they are important for a long season. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We had mostly calm and fine weather yesterday with snow coming in later on. And as a result of that there's 12cm of fresh snow on the ground to report. Kagura are reporting 5-10cm of fresh snow and Maiko Snow Resort reporting 10-15cm. So there is an extra layer of snow on the courses waiting everyone this morning. We have had some mixed weather conditions already today. The sun was out a bit before, but the snow clouds are moving back in from the north as of 8:30am and snow has started falling in places. It is due to ease off sometime during the day. I am just looking at one local weather forecast that says tomorrow it will be fine and sunny - with temperatures rising to as high as 10C. We can do without that! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Some light snow on and off during the day yesterday and I can just about add 1cm to the report, but there is no fresh snow on the ground this morning. And as expected it looks like it is going to be a lovely clear and sunny day... and a warm day. Perhaps alarmingly so if temperatures rise up to around 10C as local forecasts still say. Tomorrow is going to remain similarly warm with things getting colder on Saturday - hopefully with some fresh snow to start the weekend off. We have enjoyed some very nice conditions and regular snowfall recently so perhaps can't complain too much about a warm blip. As long as it is just a blip and we get back to more winter-like weather quickly! Anyway today should be a very feel-good day to be out on the mountains. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. After putting up with quite a lot of rain and wet yesterday here at town level, it is very nice to be able to report a good layer of fresh snow on the ground - and snow still falling this morning, and forecast for the day. Here's how much fresh snow is being reported: Kagura: 30cm Maiko Snow Resort: 30cm I am measuring 22cm. So yes, it's still snowing and should be through the day but clearing up sometime perhaps late afternoon or evening. Tomorrow we might well get to enjoy a sunny start to the day. The forecast is threatening some rain again before snow comes back on Thursday... Back to this morning and only the Mitsumata area of Kagura is open - Tashiro is closed for the day and the main Kagura area, or part of it, may open later depending on conditions. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. After a day of snow and sometimes strong winds yesterday -- 20cm more fresh on the ground around town (I kind of thought it would be more than that, but wind may be playing a part) -- this morning has started off calm and sunny. Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 10cm from yesterday evening; and Kagura 5cm. Interesting. There's some silky looking thin cloud up there along with blue sky, and somehow the sky and cloud is almost indistinguishable in the early morning light from some angles. So it is a bright and sunny start and that (and/or more cloud) is forecast for the day today. It's going to be milder once again during the day today so I would imagine then that conditions will be best for the first tracks of the day while it is still cold... and it does feel cold outside at the moment. Milder still tomorrow with temperatures currently forecast to be approaching 10 degrees, along with rain in town which should eventually turn back into snow. It seems to be something of a pattern this season - decent amount of snow, but warming up more than we would like in between the snowfalls and more rain than we would like. Anyhow, let's just see how things turn out. Morning from Yuzawa and an improvement on yesterday, which turned out to be a proper wet and rainy day - in town anyway and I am hearing of wet conditions higher up too though it being wet snow in places. It was really belting it day at times. :( But anyway, definitely better this morning with 11cm of fresh snow on the ground in town at our measuring point and here is what the 'resorts that report' are reporting: Kagura: 15cm (20cm at Tashiro) Maiko: 10-15cm Not the driest of snow by any stretch of the imagination, but way better than rain that's for sure! There was some quite noisy wind earlier on and indeed it looks like wind is affecting Kagura again. At the start of the day, Kagura is planning to open from the Mitsumata Ropeway up to the Kagura Number 1 pair lift. Other areas of Kagura are on a stand-by 'see how the weather goes' kind of status and might open if the wind situation improves. It looks like all other ski resorts in the area are opening as planned this morning. We can expect light snow for the day today and perhaps tomorrow morning too - though we probably shouldn't expect anything significant. --- Official snow depth information as of Friday 24th February 2017 GALA Yuzawa Upper part of $2,600,000 closed today due to avalanche danger. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. Sorry for the later report but actually glad in a way because the weather has changed quite a bit over the last hour or so. It was snowing quite heavily for a short while about an hour ago, but it didn't last long and it is all of a sudden much clearer just outside of Yuzawa to the north with very (very) light snow lazily falling from the sky in some places. It doesn't seem to be able to decide on what to do this morning... Actually yesterday was a bit like that. Cloudy at times, bright at times, light snow at times and a few short periods of heavier snow. Didn't really add up to much though and I think I can just about award a cm to the report this morning. (Resorts themselves don't appear to be reporting any fresh snow). Cloud and light snow tomorrow? After that, some clearer skies are forecast over the coming week and there's not much in terms of fresh snowfall potential. Fingers crossed it doesn't warm up by much. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. And it is good to see some fresh snow on the ground this morning. Yesterday fairly quickly became a generally 'cloudy/overcast' day with some rain starting in the afternoon. But it turning into snow overnight of course and here are the numbers being reported: Kagura: 5-10cm Maiko Snow Resort: up to 15cm I am posting the report from near Ishiuchi this morning and there's just about 1cm here; and 4cm at our Yuzawa measuring point. So expect a light layer on lower slopes by town and something more substantial in higher areas.
