More snow since the report yesterday and it is still snowing - lightly here in Hasuike and more so in other areas (still coming down quite hard over at Okushiga). The snow is due to ease off during today and then we are probably going to have at least a few days of calmer and brighter days. Maybe some sun! Excellent conditions, surely. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. Very heavy snowfall over the last day or so and it is still snowing. There's never going to be an agreement from 10 people on how much so I'll start off by saying that Kumanoyu reported 50cm and Yakebitaiyama are being shy about a number which usually translates as 'a lot - don't be scared please'! Just, a lot, and my main measurement is 55cm. There's more than that in places, probably up to around 80cm. Great quality snow too. I think the ski areas are all too busy to update their snow depth numbers, but that is perhaps understandable at times like this. Tomorrow should see the weather being calmer and clearer. Weekend visitors will probably be jealous of anyone sticking around to enjoy Monday. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Phew, just been out shovelling. It's really cold outside and blowing snow. Good old mid-winter conditions. With 20+cm of snow too on the ground. Yakebitaiyama and Kumanoyu were both reporting 15cm of snowfall early this morning. There'll be more than that by now and I have just taken a 24cm measurement. Visibility is generally poor and in places down to almost nothing. Some lifts may be affected by that. There's snow due for the whole day today and tomorrow too. Monday should see the clouds clear at least a bit and maybe a lot, leaving us with some really great conditions. Not much since yesterday but we're expecting a bunch of snow over the weekend still. Starting tonight. If we are lucky wind won't cause any lift disruptions and we can just enjoy the cold and fine snow conditions. It will be cold though so need to get plenty wrapped up. Bring it on, I say. It's not meant to last so perhaps we'll see a similar pattern to yesterday. Visibility generally not too bad either even with the snow falling. Weekend forecast is still for possibly heavy snowfall. Hopefully wind won't be a nuisance but there's a chance it might be. It will be cold too, so be prepared. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Cold, moderate snowfall and wind this morning with generally poor visibility. It's stormy out there. Some lifts are going to be affected. These conditions are certainly not for everyone, but the snow falling is top quality stuff and once things calm down conditions should be excellent. Kumanoyu and Yakebitaiyama are both reporting 30cm of fresh snowfall and I concur. There's more and there's less in different places - the wind is seeing to that. Snowfall might ease today but there's quite a lot more snow lined up on forecasts. In particular for over the weekend, so if you plan to be here over the weekend come prepared. Another 10cm or so in places since the report yesterday morning, though it is (as so often is the case) going to vary where you are. This morning visibility is still kind of limited over at Okushiga Kogen where it is still snowing. Here in Hasuike there is some very light snow falling at the moment. In some places there is a break in the clouds and some blue sky. So another varied mix of weather this morning. But cold throughout the area. There's more snow on the forecast regularly across the coming week so hopefully good winter conditions will continue. As they should, of course, it's not February yet! It's bright and even a bit sunny in some places but there is still light snow lingering, even here in the Hasuike area. Perhaps we will get some clearing of the skies again during the day today. Whatever, it should remain cold and conditions should be good. Regular snow on and off over the next few days is forecast to take us into February. It is a beautiful morning after some early light snow and cloud. There's not a whole lot of new snowfall really, probably more over at the Okushiga Kogen area than most of the other areas of Shiga Kogen since yesterday. In fact, Kumanoyu are reporting 0cm, just a dusting. The snow is due back from later on today (might be tonight) and tomorrow during the daytime. If forecasts get it right, the start of the weekend should be much clearer, though more snow is due later on in the day perhaps beyond the lifts closing. In the meantime, more snow today please!
