  • Hakuba Now: Tuesday 23rd January 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 16cm Snowfall at base this season 319cm Posted on Tuesday 23rd January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . This 'snow week' started off with the Kanto region grabbing all the headlines and a layer of snow causing all sorts of problems in the capital region. They're just not used to it like us. Hopefully transportation out of Tokyo and the region won't be a problem. We also had snow falling during the day yesterday - probably about the same as what Tokyo got! I'm guessing a better quality of snow though. ;) This morning here is what the resorts are reporting Hakuba Cortina: 5-10cm at base; 10+cm up top Hakuba Happo-one: 15cm at top Gondola station Hakuba 47: 20cm Hakuba Goryu: 10cm at Toomi; 20m up top So you can get the idea - generally looks like we can expect around 20cm of snow on the mountain.... and counting, because it is snowing and likely to be building up nicely today and over the next run of days. That exciting forecast is still looking good with a lot of snow due probably through into the weekend. Expect conditions to be improving but be careful with limited visibility and always do remember to keep that excitement in check. I know, it can be difficult! Enjoy. • Hakuba Now: Monday 22nd January 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 303cm Posted on Monday 22nd January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. And here we are at the start of a week that brings a lot of promise of large amounts of fresh snow. It is good to see snow falling again. First of all the fresh snowfall headlines so far: Hakuba Cortina: 5-10cm Hakuba 47: reporting 10cm yesterday afternoon upper slopes Hakuba Goryu: Toomi 1cm; upper areas 5cm Hakuba Happo-one: 2cm at top Gondola station So a modest layer of snow can be expected on the slopes - but there's that promise of much more just ahead of us. Yesterday there was some good snow falling later in the afternoon and it was piling up quite quickly for a while, but it eased off in the evening. This morning it's cloudy skies with snow forecast to be falling later on. Calm before the storm perhaps as when it starts snowing again it should be the start of the excellent week for snowfall that we are all expecting. It's pretty exciting to look at the forecasts. If the snow happens like they are saying it will, we're on for some serious snowfall. Really serious. And I will of course look forward to letting you know all about it. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Operating lifts: - All lifts operating as planned Courses open: - All course are open Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 340cm - Usagidaira: 165cm - Lower: 80cm ----- Hakuba Goryu Operating lifts: - All lifts operating as planned (Alps Number 2 and 4 lifts usually operate on weekends only) Courses open: - All courses are open apart from Adventure Official snow depth: - Top: 290cm - Toomi: 105cm - Iimori: 50cm ----- Hakuba 47 Operating lifts: - All lifts operating as planned (Line D usually operates only when the Gondola is closed) Courses open: - All courses available apart from R4 / 47 Parks (Monday and Tuesday) Official snow depth: - Top: 240cm - Base: 70cm ----- Tsugaike Kogen Operating lifts: - All lifts apart from Kane-no-naru-oka Skyliner I are operating Courses open: - All course areas are open apart from Uma-no-se and parts of Sawa-one and Kane-no-naru-oka Number 2 Official snow depth: - Tsuga-no-mori: 260cm - Han-no-ki: 255cm - Maruyama: 100cm - Shirakaba: 220cm - Champion: 120cm - Oya-no-hara: 110cm - Kane-no-naru-oka: 110cm ----- Hakuba Cortina Operating lifts: - All lifts are operating Courses open: - All courses apart from Mt Hieda 3 and Itadaira Ridge are open (those courses closed due to ground cracks) Official snow depth: - Top: 270cm - Base: 155cm ----- Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Operating lifts: - Most lifts are operating with most courses open Official snow depth: - Top: 180cm - Base: 100cm ----- Hakuba Norikura Onsen Operating lifts: - All lifts apart from Alps Number 7 are operating Official snow depth: - 185cm ----- Hakuba Valley Kashimayari Operating lifts: - All lifts apart from Number 8 and 10 are operating Official snow depth: - 140cm ----- Hakuba Sanosaka Operating lifts: - All three lifts are operating Official snow depth: - 105cm Hakuba Now 2017-2018 season Data as of Monday 22nd January 2018 Total snowfall at base so far 303cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 31 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 34cm (3rd January) November 2017 snowfall 47cm reported on 5 days December 2017 snowfall 158cm reported on 15 days January 2018 snowfall 98cm reported on 11 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. • Hakuba Now: Sunday 14th January 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 13cm Snowfall at base this season 300cm Posted on Sunday 14th January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It is another very cold morning. There is a lot of grey cloud hanging over the village at the moment but clearer blue skies above that. So some very varied scenery early on depending on where you are. I recommend a trip up as high as you can to see over the clouds. Hakuba Cortina: 30-50cm Hakuba 47: 10cm Happo-one: 5cm (top of Gondola) Interesting to see Cortina reporting so much fresh; and Happo-one only 5cm. Hmmm. The resorts curiously don't seem to be reporting as much as we are seeing. I usually check four different location numbers in a morning as a kind of check, and obviously there are areas that get more or less snow than others. This morning the numbers around base areas are 5cm, 9cm, 13cm (the place we usually measure) and 15cm since yesterday. You can see the problem we face with this Nature thing! Whatever, the headline numbers aside, I think it's fair to say there's a layer of fresh snow out there with more of it to the north at Cortina and Norikura. Sun is expected today so these clouds are probably going to be moving on this morning. It should be a very good day. Sun is forecast for tomorrow too, when it should also be a little milder. The forecasts are looking.... interesting for mid-week. Heavy rain or heavy snow? I know which I prefer. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Operating lifts: - All lifts operating as planned Courses open: - All course are now open Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 360cm - Usagidaira: 190cm - Lower: 105cm ----- Hakuba Goryu Operating lifts: - All lifts operating as planned (Alps Number 2 and 4 lifts usually operate on weekends only) Courses open: - All courses are open Official snow depth: - Top: 305cm - Toomi: 120cm - Iimori: 70cm ----- Hakuba 47 Operating lifts: - All lifts operating as planned (Line D usually operates only when the Gondola is closed) Courses open: - All courses available Official snow depth: - Top: 295cm - Base: 100cm ----- Tsugaike Kogen Operating lifts: - Most lifts are operating as planned Courses open: - All course areas are open apart from some parts of Sawa-one and Kane-no-naru-oka Number 2 Official snow depth: - Tsuga-no-mori: 285cm - Han-no-ki: 275cm - Maruyama: 120cm - Shirakaba: 245cm - Champion: 150cm - Oya-no-hara: 130cm - Kane-no-naru-oka: 135cm ----- Hakuba Cortina Operating lifts: - All lifts are operating Courses open: - All courses apart from Itadaira Forecast opening at time of report Official snow depth: - Top: 300cm - Base: 200cm ----- Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Operating lifts: - Most lifts are operating with most courses open Official snow depth: - Top: 180cm - Base: 100cm ----- Hakuba Norikura Onsen Operating lifts: - All lifts apart from Alps Number 7 are operating Official snow depth: - 210cm ----- Hakuba Valley Kashimayari Operating lifts: - All lifts are operating Official snow depth: - 150cm ----- Hakuba Sanosaka Operating lifts: - All three lifts are operating Official snow depth: - 110cm Hakuba Now 2017-2018 season Data as of Sunday 14th January 2018 Total snowfall at base so far 300cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 30 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 34cm (3rd January) November 2017 snowfall 47cm reported on 5 days December 2017 snowfall 158cm reported on 15 days January 2018 snowfall 95cm reported on 10 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Fresh snowfall reported by the ski resorts this morning: Hakuba Happo-one: 8cm Hakuba 47: 5cm Hakuba Cortina: 1cm Not as much to report this morning - more that I am measuring actually... with conditions keeping very cold it should be great out there this morning again. Earlier on snow was falling but now it is generally cloudy but I can see some snow actually breaking through in places (see Iwatake webcam image below). Might we see clearer conditions later on? Though the forecasts I like have snow through today and tomorrow. With clearer weather beyond that, I'd prefer more fresh myself. • Hakuba Now: Thursday 11th January 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 18cm Snowfall at base this season 277cm Posted on Thursday 11th January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Yesterday it was all about the snow with the wind giving us a breather to just enjoy the fresh out there. With more snow overnight, here's the fresh snowfall headlines. Hakuba Happo-one: 50cm (top of Gondola) Hakuba Cortina: 15-20cm (base); 20-25cm (top) Hakuba Goryu: 15-25cm Hakuba 47: up to 20cm (maybe up to 30cm) Way to go Happo-one! I like it when a place reports an impressive 50cm of snow. That is up by their upper gondola station. I feel the need to check that out myself. ;) Good numbers around the other resorts too so conditions should be good this morning. The forecast continues to be good too with the snow clouds likely to continue being over our lovely Hakuba and delivering through Saturday. Visibility looks limited out on many slopes this morning. Fresh powder and limited visibility. Difficult to not be really excited about it, but an extra need to be careful whilst having all that fun. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . I have to get myself off to Nagano early this morning so it's an early quick report from me today. Sorry it can't be more in-depth. Not the most friendly of early morning conditions here with wind and kind of wet conditions with a mix of rain, sleet or snow depending on where you are. The wind will surely be affecting lifts are resorts even though it doesn't actually feel windy outside my place just now; info updated as much as possible at this early hour below. Please check with resorts if you plan to get out this morning. Looking forward to some good decent proper snow later on and tomorrow. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It is a very cold start to the day here. My thermometer outside saying -8C. There's a light covering of snow on the ground though some places reporting none - and just a bit being reported by the resorts that I can find: Hakuba Happo-one: 5cm (top of Gondola) Hakuba Cortina 3cm (base and top) Nice and cold, snow conditions should be great this morning. And things seem to be calm too. Just wrap up well. Perhaps a little snow tomorrow but looking at the forecast it looks like we are down for some heavy snow again early in the week. Sounds good to me (though the rain that is currently shown on the forecast to be with us Monday before the snow appears sounds much less appealing!!) Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 246cm Posted on Thursday 4th January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. I was out on 47/Goryu yesterday where it was snowing and pretty windy at times. Nothing getting wrapped up well can't solve, and the snow was good. Snow was falling but getting blown around by the wind. This morning light snow falling down to village level and I have just 3cm to report here. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 34cm Snowfall at base this season 241cm Posted on Wednesday 3rd January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . I'll try to keep it short and get this out there. Fresh snowfall reported by the resorts: Hakuba Goryu: 30-45cm Hakuba Happo-one: 40cm Hakuba 47: 20-40cm Hakuba Cortina; 30+cm And I have 34cm to add to the report. Nice. What is less nice is the strong winds which are affecting lift operations. I have updated info below but basically top lifts are being affected. Still, the storm is bringing us some fresh snow which is a good thing. If you brave the weather today. Be prepared. Take care. • Hakuba Now: Monday 1st January 2018

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 206cm Posted on Monday 1st January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning and a very Happy New Year to you all. Enjoy last night? The slopes were as you might expect very busy yesterday. More cloud moved in with snow falling in the afternoon again but there wasn't much wind and I don't think there'll be any complaints. I spent my evening last night indoors but I am already hearing a few stories of some raucous fun that was being enjoyed. I expect there might be a few hangovers than normal this morning! Back to fresh snow and here is what the resorts are reporting: Hakuba Goryu - 10cm up top Hakuba Happo-one - 5cm top of Gondola Hakuba Cortina - 2cm at base and 3cm up top Just a bit of snow down at base to report myself and while we had a pretty early morning sunrise, things have clouded over further since then and right now visibility seems generally rather limited out on the mountains. Oh yes, and while it doesn't feel particularly cold, it has started snowing. Hopefully this is the start of decent snowfall over the next few days. Look to Wednesday in particular for potential heavy snow. I like the sounds of that. Have a good New Years Day. • Hakuba Now: Tuesday 5th December 2017

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 59cm Posted on Tuesday 5th December 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Morning from Hakuba. And there's some fresh snow to report this morning. Here's what I am seeing the resorts report: - Hakuba 47: about 20cm on upper slopes Er, that's it I'm afraid. Resorts don't seem to be into gear yet with their morning info. But 20cm on uppper slopes at Hakuba 47 probably means a similar haul at other nearby resort areas, so it should be a very good morning. Though visibility looking very limited this morning as the snow falls and covered in cloud. There's 0cm of snow down in the central village area, with a few cm around resort base areas as you get slightly higher (which is where my number is coming to you from). The forecast is looking really nice for regular snowfall over the coming week. And decent amounts too. Let's hope that forecast is right. Until tomorrow, when I hope to bring more snow news.
