Today has started off sunny, though the forecast is telling us to expect clouds to move in as we get into the afternoon and the day might well end up being quite dull. It only dipped down to around +8 degrees overnight and as of 9am it is already about 15 degrees. A high of 19 or 20 is forecast for the day, so it feels warm. Even though the snow has all but gone from the valley and lower mountain areas, there's still a lot up on the open places at Kagura and Gala. Kagura still reporting over 3m of snow. Conditions are as you would expect them to be at this stage. Another Monday morning and actually this Monday morning marks the first day when all of the snow has completely melted away from the rice fields behind SnowJapan World Headquarters here in Minamiuonuma. Yesterday really helped with that - it was a really warm day with the temperature according to the thermometer reaching 21 degrees here in the valley. It got cold early on this morning and today isn't as warm with a temperature as of noon at 12 degrees. Lots of cloud today but bright and breaks in those clouds. Tomorrow the sun is due and it will probably get warmer once again. A chilly overnight and as of 6:30am it is around 2 degrees, with a high of about 10 degrees likely later on in the day. Tomorrow should also be sunny but get a fair bit warmer... we might see temperatures rise to almost 20 degrees in town. Maiko Snow Resort is due to open today and tomorrow for the weekend, and that will be the last for that resort this season. The day is supposed to be a mix of sleet/rain, cloud, sun and then back to rain, sleet or snow... so take your pick. Right now it is around +2 degrees with a high of around +6 forecast for later on in the day. Update: Kagura reporting a full 10cm of fresh snow up there! Light snow falling higher up earlier on this morning but not the kind that will bring any cm - and none reported by Kagura - but always good to hear of snow falling. The day is forecast to be cloudy here and not warm up so much (a high of around 7 degrees later in town, with maybe clouds bringing some rain, perhaps sleet and maybe even snow tonight and into tomorrow morning. Whether we'll see much of anything tomorrow morning.... I'll let you know! A moderate spring wind this afternoon, but not like over the weekend. Temperatures rose up to around 14 degrees. The forecast tells us to expect a cold early morning tomorrow, possibly even dipping down to around freezing. Chance of rain or perhaps a bit of snow up top as well - but nothing major. Tomorrow should settle down to be just cloudy and a bit colder than today. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . So we are now down to three skijo open in the area - Kandatsu Kogen, GALA Yuzawa and Kagura. With Maiko planning to open this coming weekend, just for the weekend. It has been a bit calmer today though still quite windy up on the mountains with the Tashiro area of Kagura closed and limited at the main Kagura area too, via Mitsumata. Been some sun out though so it feels rather brighter than it did over the weekend. Tomorrow is forecast to start off clear and sunny and it will warm up to perhaps around 12 degrees during the daytime. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . As yesterday the day started off fine here today but now that we are into the afternoon the rain has started. Strong winds too as forecast and the conditions have affected resorts around town with Gala Yuzawa and Kagura closed and limitations elsewhere.... not the best of days by all accounts. The winds may ease off somewhat tomorrow but rain is likely to continue.
