The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from a cloudy and rather windy Yuzawa. So much so that some resorts are going to be closed today due to the wind conditions -- all of Kagura is closed and GALA Yuzawa also. The upper parts of Naeba are closed early on and Yuzawa Kogen may also be affected. Looks like the Gondola at Maiko Snow Resort is also resting this morning, but the quad up to the bowl seems to be open. It's already close to 10C here in town and likely to warm up to around 16 degrees today. Winter is seeming further and further away, and unfortunately there doesn't seem much chance of a late March blast of winter - not for the moment on the weekly forecast anyway. Late March snow has been known to happen though.... (he says hoping). We do still have a lot of snow around, there's no bare patches and many resorts are reporting 2+m still. Anyway, possibly rain later today but hopefully by tomorrow morning conditions will have calmed down. Clouds arrived yesterday in the afternoon after that clear start, and by evening it was raining and there was some strong noisy wind blowing about outside. Quite hard at times. No new snow to report - dustings up top though I hear - and I am glad to say that the drama from the last part of yesterday has cleared up and we start today with more sunny, blue skies. Tomorrow will be more cloudy and a good chance of rain later in the day. It's the last day for nighta at Ishiuchi Maruyama. That resort also intends to be open (daytimes) until Sunday 7th April. We'll bring you the planned closing dates of resorts soon.... It didn't get as cold overnight last night as the previous night, but the day has started much the same with the sun out and shining down on us. There's a bit more cloud around, especially in the Minamiuonuma valley just to the north, but generally clear blue skies. Another spring ski day. A chance of clouding over rain/sleet/snow late today, but tomorrow the forecast is for another day of sun. A little further ahead, rain seems inevitable on Monday. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Very light snow on and off in the morning yesterday though easing off later on. It got really cold last night actually but has been warming up this morning and we are expecting temps to rise to ab out 7 or 8 degrees today. Clear skies this morning - bluebird! Talking about birds, lots of chirping going on noticeable recently - another sign of spring with us. Tomorrow similar conditions, though later in the day it's supposed to break down a bit and we might get some rain/sleet. Good bit of news. Maiko Snow Resort just outside of Yuzawa in Minamiuonuma has announced that they intend to remain open longer than originally planned. The original planned closing date was 31st March, but they're going to open the Gondola side of the resort on the following two weekends as well - so that's April 6th/7th and April 13th/14th. Weekdays from April 1st will remain closed, so just for the weekends. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Snow! Not a huge amount, but snow all the same. And definitely better than the rain that was falling last night. Yesterday got really warm - even up to around 16 degrees! Glad that it turned into snow and there's just a few cm on the ground in town areas and 5cm being reported by Gala Yuzawa and Kagura at higher elevations. Wind is strong in places and seems to be affecting Kagura with limited operations up there this morning. It's more than likely going to clear up by this afternoon with clearer skies forecast for this evening, another cold night and then lots of sun tomorrow with a high back up to around +6. For now, it's hovering around 0 degrees in Yuzawa. This morning started off not quite as clear and has gradually got move overcast as the day has moved on. It's mostly grey skies now, mid afternoon. Very warm though, over 15 degrees, but the lack of the sun is probably keeping the damaged limited. Unfortunately, rain is due later on, perhaps turning into snow overnight especially in higher areas. Tomorrow should be colder. Wind too. GALA Yuzawa is closed for the day due to winds which seem to be getting stronger this afternoon. After that clearing up for the weekend is what the latest forecast tells us. Yesterday the snowfall eased off late in the morning and by darkness arrived there was quite a lot of clear sky above the region. It got really quite cold as well actually. Frost on the car outside, and apparently temperatures down to -8C overnight. They are going to rise to around +9 today as things warm up once again. Early on the sun is out and lots of blue skies. We are going to have a lovely clear day here and tomorrow should be similar - and warmer. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday the report was updated to say it had started raining. It was snowing by the afternoon, though not the kind of snow that leaves new cm on the ground. As expected it quickly got colder as the day went on and this morning not only is it rather cold, but we also have snow on the ground and the snow is still falling! Resorts around town are reporting between 5cm and 20cm of new snowfall overnight and I can say that I had to move about 15cm off the top of my car earlier this morning. It's actually coming down quite heavily at the moment as well. What a difference a day can make. Strong winds are affecting some ski lifts with the top of Naeba and the Tashiro part of Kagura closed this morning. Unfortunately, this return to winter seems destined to be short-lived. The snow will probably ease off later on today and then a clear, sunny and warm day is likely tomorrow. Things were calmer earlier on, but in the last hour or so some very noisy winds have whipped up and it's blowing a bit of a gale outside here in Minamiuonuma. I was in Yuzawa just earlier and it wasn't as windy but the forecast is for the warmth of the early morning to make way for wind and much colder conditions during the day. I would expect that these winds might affect lift operations at some resorts, though at the moment we can't confirm any disruptions now other than Ishiuchi Maruyama saying on their website that the top lifts have been stopped temporarily. Anyway, yesterday was warm but perhaps not as much as we expected. We have probably already had the highest temperature of the day today as it will quickly get colder and later on we may even be cold enough to see some snow falling. That would be nice. From Tuesday though a return to warm seems very probable. Update: it has started raining. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Late last night there was the sound of heavy rain and strong winds outside and a temperature of +7C as of midnight. Didn't sound like a particularly good way to start the weekend! I'm glad to say that things have calmed down since then and it's just a cloudy morning here in Yuzawa. The roads seem to be mostly dried up. Cloud, but some areas showing some blue sky. To the south of the main town area it looks like it is nice and sunny over Naeba and perhaps we can expect the clouds to clear up here over town as well as the day progresses. At the moment it is 5 degrees in town with a high of around 8-9 degrees forecast for the day. A real mixed bag on the forecasts, difficult to know how the weekend will turn out. Tomorrow take your choice from light snow showers, sleet, rain, sun and cloud. It does seem to be that later tomorrow into Monday will get colder than it has been but probably warm up again after that so just a short term dip in temps. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday turned out to be a rather hazy day, but definitely warm. Very spring-like. The skies are a bit clearer and blue-er this morning, and it's another warm start to the day.... about +7C now at 9am with a high of above 10C forecast for the early afternoon today. Some mixed messages on different forecasts, but rain seems to be a common feature later today/tonight and overnight, hopefully clearing up by the time the lifts start tomorrow. We're hoping that will be coming down as snow at higher elevations. So higher elevations will be the pick of the bunch for the weekend for the best chance of better snow conditions. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It warmed up to about 11 degrees in town yesterday so a fair bit of snow melt going on. The sun was out for most of the day, though it got more overcast as the day went on after the blue start to the day. This morning starts off similarly. It's already about 7C and cloudy/overcast and it might get warmer still today. We really want it to cool down a bit, but can't see that happening until Saturday and there's a chance of rain before then. As expected it was a case of hard groomers yesterday morning and heavier soft granular snow later on in the morning and afternoon. Better snow as you get higher up. I'd expect similar conditions today.
