  • Myoko Now: Thursday 5th March 2026

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 1071cm Posted on Thursday 5th March 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . When the snow slid off my roof around 7 this morning, I thought I had missed an important job (plowing a few locations). It made a big noise coming off, and it sounded like a whole lot had fallen since I checked very early in the morning. But I still hadn’t heard the plows doing their business earlier. In fact, our potential heavy snow turned out to be basically nothing—it was heavy, but only in weight, not quantity. I felt that yesterday out on the hill, too, with really wet snow that soaked into gloves, and which was dense enough to stop the car’s wipers with just a few centimeters of fresh. There’s a chance for more over the weekend, but once again it looks like it will start with rain and turn to snow, probably wet and heavy again.... -- Akakura Kanko: 200cm, -4° Akakura Onsen: 270cm, -1° Alpen Blick Resort 230cm, 3° (it’s marked with today’s date, but the numbers haven’t changed, and reports sunny conditions) Myoko Suginohara: 105cm top, 60cm base; -5° Kyukamura RunRun: 200cm, 2° (yesterday’s report) Seki Onsen: 420cm, -3° Tangram Madarao Tokyu Resort: 85cm, 2° Madarao Mountain Resort: 150cm, -3° Upper lifts closed Lotte Arai Resort: 382cm, 4° Kurohime Kogen Snow Park: 70cm top, 30cm base; 1° Myoko Now 2025-2026 season Data as of Thursday 5th March 2026 Total snowfall at base so far 1071cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 49 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 120cm (on 25th January) November 2025 snowfall 35cm reported on 1 day December 2025 snowfall 184cm reported on 11 days January 2026 snowfall 646cm reported on 24 days February 2026 snowfall 202cm reported on 12 days March 2026 snowfall 4cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Myoko. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. Yesterday was, in the end, not great. Poor weather, wind, and lifts affected. Thankfully this morning is somewhat improved (re: wind) and we have some light snow still falling. Early morning Yakebitaiyama was reporting 3cm. There will have been more than that since then, and I should bring you news of more tomorrow. I can report 5cm but it will be varied depending on where you are. Interesting how it looks like areas to the south-east got more, particularly over on the other side of the mountains in Kusatsu. Maybe some more snow over the weekend, too, but looks like there's a chance of clearer skies again before then. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . A fresh layer of snow! It shouldn't be a surprise in early March, but it's always great to see fresh snow on the ground and especially when we've hardly had any in recent days. OK so there's over 10cm of it and the ski area reports 16cm on the mountain. (Yesterday the rain turned into snow in the afternoon). Not enough for a reset, of course, but runs should be much improved this morning. We expect light snow at times today. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Must be the bad weather, but the resorts are really slow uploading new info this morning. And the weather is not nice again today. We’re really going in a pattern of a sunny day and then fog/rain/wind. I’m watching the wind move to the north right now, so this overnight rain might change to the potentially heavy snow the TV reports are talking about (but I did note that they are talking more about heavy snow on the Pacific side of Honshu, which of course is not us). The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Weather is a bit complicated early on this morning. OK so here is how much snow is being reported by ski areas this morning: Hakuba Happo-one: 5cm Hakuba Goryu: 4cm Hakuba 47: 3cm Tsugaike: 'several cm' (No available info from Hakuba Cortina as I prepare my report). So there's some fresh snow out there on the mountain (though sadly none to report from base). Clearly that is not enough for a 'reset', as such, but of course welcome with the hope that there is more on the way. At the moment there is a whole lot of cloud around, and limited to (very) poor visibility in places; but some blue sky and good visibility in other places. Check out the cool view of the 'sea of clouds' on the Happo-one webcam image below. Varied weather and conditions this morning. Clearer skies are forecast for tomorrow, but Saturday still looking good for more fresh. -------------------------------- Being pretty much a beginner on these things, I occasionally wonder about some of the really weird things that go on on social media SNS land. Like, this morning, Tsugaike ski area has the seemingly random 'Footbath lounge', 'footbath' (and 'snowwall') as tags on it's Facebook morning report. Despite not mentioning footbaths in the report. What's going on there, then? Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report. SnowJapan is an entirely independent operation. Our daily reports are not posted on behalf of ski areas or any other business or organisation. Since first going online in 1999, the integrity of this website has always been our top priority, and it is something we are not prepared to compromise. All content is carefully created and written by humans who share a passion for the subject and what SnowJapan stands for. About SnowJapan.com About the daily reporting on SnowJapan.com
