Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 704cm Posted on Saturday 14th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Just a dusting of snow overnight but clear skies this morning and the sun out from early on. Very cold though which is good and should keep conditions really good for today. Over the coming week the wider region is expecting a lot of sunshine and warmer temperatures - bring sunscreen as that spring sunshine can get strong. Temperatures going to start exploring positive numbers and down in the valley it should get especially warm. Today sees the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen line from Nagano, the nearest station to Shiga Kogen being Iiyama. While it may not directly affect Shiga Kogen that much, the Iiyama station will certainly make this region - including Madarao, Myoko, Nozawa etc - seem easier to get to. There are different opinions as to how much of an affect it will have, I suppose we'll just have to see how things turn out. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 751cm Posted on Wednesday 8th April 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . 5-10cm of fresh snow! Yes, it's good news this morning. After a run of warmer conditions and some rain, yesterday got colder and snow started falling from the evening leaving us with 5-10cm of fresh snow on the ground this morning. There was 7cm of snow on my car and it felt great to have to wipe it all off. Still snowing now too, lightly. Not enough to hide the icy conditions underneath of course, but... I'll take it! We might get some more cm as well before the day ends. Tomorrow the clouds should ease off and then before the weekend it will probably start to get a bit warmer once again. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A bit more snow this morning as the cold and wintery conditions continue - and should for the day today. Tomorrow is when it should start easing off and clearing up, with sun likely by the end of the week. Not deep of course but still good to have a nice fresh layer. • Shiga Kogen Now: Thursday 21st January 2016

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 32cm Snowfall at base this season 267cm Posted on Thursday 21st January 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yesterday saw the heaviest snow storm of the season so far, it was really coming down and blowing around lunchtime. Definitely better to be inside than out just then if you ask me! Since my report yesterday, there has been another 32cm of snowfall round my place and no doubt more in places higher up. Light snow was falling still earlier on but there's actually a few breaks in the clouds now and the feeling is it might even clear up somewhat though forecasts do say that the snow clouds should not be too far away over the coming days. In fact, we have more heavy snow due at the weekend. Stormy conditions aside, the last few days has been excellent in terms of the snow we have seen fall. Conditions should be fantastic out there this morning, can't wait to get out myself. No doubt that almost everywhere should now be open though some resorts are taking their time in updating their information. A personal check seems to be required! Hope you can get to enjoy it. Of course remember to take good care out there and don't get carried away. Keep your head on, as they say. (Higashidateyama still have their official snow depth at 20cm! Believe me, more than that fell just during the day yesterday!) Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 28cm Snowfall at base this season 191cm Posted on Monday 18th January 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Real storm conditions this morning here in Shiga Kogen. 28cm outside my base here in the place where I always take my measurements. It's windy out there and the wind is blowing the snow around and so there's more in some places and less in others. Lifts are definitely going to be affected this morning - in fact it looks like at the moment pretty much all lifts are on hold - but with these conditions I can't imagine actually wanting to be out there in them myself! I think I will wait until the storm passes to enjoy the new snow. The official snow depths have for the most part hardly budged so just ignore them for the moment and think of that lovely new fresh snow that has fallen - and is continuing to fall. The snow and wind is expected to continue over the next few days though perhaps some easing off from time to time allowing some places to part open. By the end of the week though if this all continues as per forecast, we're going to be enjoying some great conditions and be fully open - at last! Here's to lots of snowfall. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 24cm Snowfall at base this season 215cm Posted on Tuesday 19th January 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . There's some sunshine this morning but it should only be a temporary break from the snow as we have heavy snowfall forecast and expected tonight and through tomorrow. Looks like it could be lots. Kind of wet snow yesterday even though we got quite a lot of it of course - not top season Shiga Kogen quality - but we'll take it. Tonight should see the lighter kind falling (though falling 'heavier' of course). We all expect! We should be finding most lifts and courses now open and with the snow due by tomorrow as well I would have thought that by the coming weekend we can finally call it as 'all open', or certainly close to. Some of the official snow depth numbers are a bit ridiculous considering the snowfall over the last day or so. But anyway, it's the fresh layer that really matters. Very fine morning and maybe afternoon on the cards before the snow clouds move back in. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 235cm Posted on Wednesday 20th January 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's stormy again here in Shiga Kogen with more snow once again. Strong winds have blown it all around but on average I would say about 20cm of fresh.... and it is really coming down now as I sit here writing this. Great stuff. Not the kind of weather where I want to venture out on the slopes as it's heavy snow and gusty winds. It does look like some lifts are open with others on hold due to the conditions. The last three days though has seen lots of snow fall and was just what we all needed. More numbers expected to add up before tomorrow and then regular snow through until Sunday when heavy snow is again on the forecast. This is more like it! Once the storm clears conditions should be really great. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Heavy snow! Not much earlier on as it has only really taken hold this morning, but it's really falling quite heavily now and there's a wind as well so it feels very cold outside. Storm like conditions just at the moment. Snow should ease off tomorrow and then we are due a few days of potentially clearer skies - a great time to be here if you can! In the meantime, lots of snowfall today please let's get as much in as possible... Take care if you are out on the slopes though, visibility is generally limited and in some places very poor - be sure you know where you are going. The official snow depths as often is the case seem very... not enough! Let's look at the forecast: Clearer skies expected tomorrow and perhaps Wednesday and into Thursday too. It will not be quite as cold as it has been but fingers crossed still remain very cold. We should be back to snow into Thursday and heavy snow is currently on the forecast for Friday night and Saturday. The last week or so with the regular and often decent snowfall has really changed things. All good. :) Shiga Kogen Now 2015-2016 season Data as of Monday 25th January 2016 Total snowfall at base 295cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 35 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 28cm (18th January) November 2015 snowfall 7cm reported on 3 days December 2015 snowfall 105cm reported on 17 days January 2016 snowfall 183cm reported on 15 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Shiga Kogen.
