Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 38cm Posted on Saturday 26th December 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa and we have a fresh blanket of snow with the resort reporting 15cm of fresh snowfall on the upper Yamabiko and Uenotaira areas this morning. Colder too as well. It is not snowing as I write this report but snow is expected on and off during the day today, with temperatures not rising that much over freezing. Currently it is -1C here at base. Should be some improved conditions up top this morning then and they are set to improve more in the coming days with decent snowfall forecast for tonight and into tomorrow and hopefully a bit beyond as well. The cold is going to continue as well with low temperatures tomorrow in particular expected. I am hoping that my report tomorrow morning will bring you some exciting snow news. In the meantime, a lot of people are expected in Nozawa this weekend. Early starts recommended especially as the whole mountain is not yet open. Until tomorrow. Let it snow! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 8cm Snowfall at base this season 58cm Posted on Monday 28th December 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Snow continued yesterday though eased off somewhat since the morning and no new snowfall overnight. And the sun is out this morning. It's cold and frosty early on and should be keeping cold even with the sun out. That's the kind of sunny weather we like! Still, the Yamabiko area is now reporting 70cm and it was great to be out in the fresh snow yesterday morning. Quite a lot of people agreed, there were a fair few people around! From 2pm yesterday the resort opened the Rinkan course to connect the Paradise course with the Nagasaka Gondola. For now it is just to use as means to get back to base. The resort also seems to have the Yunomine pair and Mizunashi lifts and associated courses now operating/open. Snow clouds are due back over the region later today so not sure how long the sunny conditions will last, with snow forecast overnight and through the day tomorrow. A decent snowfall again should allow more to open up... The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . There was some talk of a possible opening today with the snow that we got during the day yesterday, but the resort have decided there's not quite enough yet to get things started. Apparently 25cm of snowfall up top and a good 10-15cm on lower areas as well. It seems like the skies are clearing up this morning and there may even be some sun in store for us today but a return to snow overnight tonight is possible. Please bring us some more so the resort folk can get some lifts moving! I will report on the latest tomorrow morning. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 710cm Posted on Wednesday 21st January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It's early report time this morning. I wish I could say that it's because I'm off up on the first Gondola, but unfortunately it's Nagano City that beckons today. Some early morning valley cloud aside, looking up and we have some fine looking blue skies and the sun starting to work it's magic on the slopes. It's going to be a top morning even if cloud is forecast to be moving in once again during the day. Snowfall during the day yesterday but none overnight - cold start to the day with temperatures up on the top areas down to -9C. Here in the village area it's a cold -5C, with a high forecast of +2C. There might be some snowfall overnight into tomorrow. So catch the sun while you can! Resort news. If you ever wanted a go at some wiggling round those poles that you see ski racers wiggling round, now's your chance. Well, on Monday 26th anyway. Up on the Paradise course, you can have a go at the 'alpen pole' course. It's free and there's going to be rental helmets provided for free as well... and also some advice. Sounds like it could be fun! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 711cm Posted on Friday 23rd January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It hasn't been the best 24 hours in the season. Rain yesterday put a damper on things somewhat, but it is kind of back to... wet... snow this morning. For the moment it is coming down and there's a few cm on lower slopes. Temperature hovering around 0 degrees at base. Better news up top with the resort reporting up to 20cm up there, so you know where to head this morning. This snowfall is not expected to last that long unfortunately, with cloudy conditions forecast for the afternoon today, and tomorrow the sun is due to be out. So definitely not best powder conditions just now, but we have to take a few dips in a season to enjoy it when it's the best. (Right? I'm trying to convince myself!) For the next potentially heavy snowfall, look towards Tuesday into Wednesday. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It has been snowing in Nozawa and apparently still is snowing higher up on the mountain now, but for the moment it's just generally kind of cloudy here at base. There is some new snow to play in though this morning, with the resort reporting 15-20cm of fresh on the upper Yamabiko and Uenotaira areas this morning, less so down here at base. You know where to head! We were of course hoping for some particularly exciting amounts of snow to be falling so that's not quite happening just yet. Snowfall is still on the local forecast for the next few days. Enjoy today, fingers crossed for more fresh to report tomorrow. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It's a cold start to the morning in Nozawa and still lots of clouds around but we're expecting a clear up quite quickly with the sun to be shining down on us before too long. So it should warm a little as well with a high of +1 forecast later, so not too much. I wasn't around to catch how much snow the resort recorded by the afternoon, so the numbers below are since then and the resort is late in posting lower numbers this morning. I'm guessing up to 10cm more than those up top, but... that's just a guess. Whatever, there's a good new 20cm of fresh snow up on the top areas of the mountain this morning and I would expect the much better conditions up there this morning (obviously). Forecast for today is sun then but what about tomorrow. Chance of light snow during the night but a mix of cloud and sun is on the local forecast for now. Have a great weekend wherever you are. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello from Nozawa. It's a cold morning and just cloudy conditions at the moment. Some forecasts say we'll see some of the sun today and I reckon they may be right. There is about 10cm of fresh being reported by the resort since yesterday morning across mountain, including what fell during the daytime and the slight dusting that we got overnight as well. OK so what about this Nozawa-rashii snowfall that we are looking forward to. Looks like it's still due to be with us from later on in the day sometime tomorrow and once it starts it should be snowing through until around Tuesday. Heavily at times. That sounds good to me. Keep it in mind if you are planning to be here for the weekend. Now that we have that wet behind us, there's a layer of white on the ground this morning with the resort reporting 10cm across the mountain. Light snow currently falling but nothing major. Limited visibility on the upper slopes early but decent lower down. Looking ahead towards the next significant snowfall... the snow that is due to start falling on Friday should continue coming down over the weekend and into next week. Juicy numbers may well be on the menu there and I will certainly be looking forward to reporting them. Onegai shimasu. In the meantime, the sun may make an appearance tomorrow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 40cm Snowfall at base this season 791cm Posted on Sunday 1st February 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . A very good morning to you from Nozawa. And indeed a good morning it is and a fine start to February. Yes, these are the kinds of days that I particularly enjoy reporting on. As you might have guessed, there's a ton of snow to report this morning. Resort reports 40-45cm of snow across the mountain this morning and that's not counting what we got during the day yesterday, so I would guess a good 1/2m. How's that for a refresh. Nozawa-tastic! Love it! It's a cold morning, snow condition down here even looks great, so I would expect some fantastic conditions up on the top areas in particular where it was apparently -10 degrees as of 7:30am. Wrap up well folks. Limited visibility up there as well by the looks though better lower down. Looks like the Kamoshika and Tanuki courses are closed this morning, no doubt due to the fresh snow and associated possible dangers. Hopefully they can get those open again soon. Forecast for the day is continued snowfall easing off into tomorrow. Deep snow conditions are what we dream of, but do remember the dangers and keep safe out there. Have fun. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . More snow in Nozawa to report this morning as the complete mountain-wide refresh continues. Resort reporting up to another 40cm of new snowfall since yesterday. Some very fine deep conditions to be found this morning, and less people to compete for them. Not that it's a competition of course. ;) It is a cold morning and the snow continues to fall here in this north east corner of Nagano, and snow is forecast for the day and into tomorrow though some of the forecasts have it easing off tomorrow. Once we get past this bunch of snow clouds we should have a few days of cloud and the chance of some short-lived sun at times. Doesn't look like there's significant snow for the rest of the week. Doesn't matter for now anyway. Excellent conditions to be found out there. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 828cm Posted on Friday 6th February 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from a snowy Nozawa. Not heavy snow but a bit of snow, the resort reporting up to 20cm on upper slopes, 10cm mid mountain and just a bit at base. It is still snowing now but expected to stop this morning leaving us with a cloudy day and temperature hovering around freezing point down here in the village. Tomorrow expect sun and enjoy it while you can because from Sunday onwards the next lot of snow is due to start falling and continue into next week. I would say some Nozawa-rashii snowfall might be on the cards come Monday. Light north westerly wind this morning, not too cold this morning; limited visibility to start the day higher up in particular but that should clear up. Going to be another busy weekend.
