Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 700cm Weather overview Snow showers Wind Calm Temperature - Visibility Good Posted at 10:22am on Saturday 23rd March 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . And winter continues to trudge drearily along this late into the ski season. There was a small threat that a snow storm passing through the area yesterday afternoon would transition over to a wintry mix/rain combination, but Old Man Winter held his grip. While the rest of Japan may be digging out and into spring, we received yet another all-snow event. This means that the slopes are still in prime condition, and snowfall totals haven't budged a bit from the 190cm we've been looking at for a while (actual snowfall totals are still much higher in places.) Yesterday we saw about 5-10cm of the fluffy white stuff, and this morning saw a few more lingering snow showers. The forecast calls for this to continue throughout the day and into the evening, with temperatures staying a few degrees south of the freezing mark. Winds were gusting about a bit at the 10:00am mark, but on the whole they should stay relatively light today. Tonight marks the end of Night Skiing Season - so for those of you who have yet to experience the thrill of a few runs under the stars, this evening is for you. Also, don't forget that tomorrow (Sunday the 24th) is the last day for ski lift operations in the Kitanomine Zone! The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The snow continued off and on throughout the day and then started dumping bucket loads of sweet, white powder all over everything for hours on end last night. We're seening anywhere from 10-15cm, with possibly more in places, of high-quality, late season powder. For all you powder hounds out there looking to glide down a soft blanket of white, today is your day. Especially if you want to do it on the Kitanomine Zone side of things, because today will be the last day of ski lift operations in Kitanomine. It seems a shame to put a stop to things when all the courses in such prime condition, but a quick look at the forecast for the week ahead reveals a sharp warming trend waiting in the wings as we head into April. It's currently -7 with light winds out of the east, southeast, bringing with them scattered snow showers. It looks like we won't be seeing any of the big accumulations we saw yesterday, but all the snow that fell overnight is out there waiting to be carved up by somebody! The latest Furano Now report can be found here . After a week of seemed like the return of Spring, the temperature turned south of the freezing mark and snow started to fall yesterday. It has continued snowing off and on throughout the night, covering over everything with a fresh blanket of white. It looks like Old Man Winter is not quite yet finished with Furano. It's currently -3 and snowing, with about 5-10cm of accumulation, with higher accumulations in the upper elevations. Today looks like it will make it just above the freezing mark, with cloudy and cold skies overnight with temperatures bottoming out around -7. Tomorrow looks to be more of the same fine, white powder coming down off and on throughout the day. Fairly typical weather patterns for Furano Winter season, but it's nice to see the snow lasting so late into the season. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Just after the lifts closed for the evening yesterday, the heavens opened up and just dumped about 10-15cm of the finest fresh powder we've seen in two weeks. Light, dry and infinitely skiable, all that snow is out there on the slopes today for your skiing enjoyment! Those that make it out in time for the first runs of the day will be treated to a lovely blanket of snow. Last night was cloudy and unseasonably cold, with lows bottoming out at -11 down in the village. The clouds have cleared out now, and a beautiful blue sky is in store for all who make it outside this morning. As we head into April, this may very well be the last time we see temperatures in the minus double digits. For now, the cold temperatures and snowfall over the last few days have done an excellent job of preserving the ski slopes this late into the season. The bottom of the mountain gets a little spring-like during the day, but the upper half of the mountain is still remarkably pristine for this late into the season. All this winter weather may not last for too much longer, as Spring moves in to takes its hold. For those of you thinking about getting in a few more winter-like runs, today is your day!
