The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . There's more snow and it feel like it should be an excellent morning out there. It has eased off and there are signs that it might be getting clearer. Tomorrow should also see some sun and it is going to be getting a bit warmer too. Let's hope it keeps under control, we don't want our precious snow to be affected. The next significant snow looks like it'll be with us at the weekend, but we might/should get some more before then tomorrow night into Wednesday. Some really good snow depth numbers being clocked in now around the ski areas. We're doing well. I am pleased. (Can you tell I am ignoring all the news on the tv and online? It really does help, I recommend it if you are able to.) Please bear with me as I add other ski area info to the report. Hopefully tomorrow. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . A late start. It's that time of year, is my excuse. The phone rings, it's not really the season yet (although there was some great snow at Akakan yesterday! Light powder for the opener! And it kept on snowing!). But I'm glad, because the weather has changed a bit here. The sun is now poking out, it's a bit warmer than the past few days, and will rise tomorrow before snow (hopefully) returns on Wednesday. The forecast is really promising, though, with lots of cold and snow toward the weekend. No question about this being a white Christmas! And more good snow to enjoy.... The latest Niseko Now report can be found here It's really snowing very nicely as I sit here writing this report. The kind of snow that sees those cm building up. People who are looking for some clear blue skies are going to be disappointed over the next week with consistent snow lined up on the forecast. It doesn't feel windy out there so it should be a very fine morning. Good news from Hirafu where only five official runs remain closed; all others now open. Out of bounds areas and gates are not yet open. As I am about to post the report at 8:30am the slick 6-person base lift at Hanazono appears to be on hold. Not sure why. That thing looks slick even when it's on hold. Though I'd prefer it were moving. ;) ----- Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa Base: -7℃, 12cm snowfall in the last 12hrs. The gates are not ready yet and the out of bounds areas are still closed. This information and the Niseko Rules are implemented for accident prevention. Since this mountain is not a wild untouched mountain, but a ski resort, it is necessary to set some kind of rule to avoid accidents that can happen too easily. The Niseko Rules have been implemented out of necessity from past repeated tragic accidents. They are not Rules to hold back the freedom of skiers/snowboarders. Ski resorts are here for all levels of snow enthusiasts. One track under the boundary rope could lead many others to follow it, and eventually trigger an accident. We strongly ask all resort visitors to respect the Niseko Rules. The inbounds snow condition is fantastic today. We have been left with some really nice snow and a good cover across the mountains too. While Shiga Kogen is still quite a way from being fully open, more is opening up now. Basically Okushiga Kogen along with Yokoteyama/Kumanoyu (both extreme points of the area) are almost all open with the Yakebitaiyama-Ichinose area part open. Still a few parts in the central area yet to open but they should be going by Christmas. As everyone knows, of course, Santa likes to ski all of Shiga Kogen on Christmas Day. We are actually due more snow later today but perhaps some sun beyond that with more snow around Wednesday. Sun is great, but regular snow please. And low temps! But it is snowing this morning and good and cold, hopefully we'll get some more cm for me to report tomorrow. More of Happo, Goryu and Tsugaike are opening today. I have added those details below. We will see a gradually opening up as long as we get more snow coming on. The only ski area in the region not part open now is Jigatake in Omachi. (Sanosaka is sitting this season out). I will be doing some housekeeping on the report in the coming few days to reflect the quickly changing situation. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: - Kurobishi: -cm - Usagidaira: -cm - Nakiyama: -cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 120cm - Usagidaira: 95cm - Nakiyama: - Planned lift operations: - Adam Gondola - Panorama pair lift - Kokusai Number 1 pair lift - Kokusai Number 3 pair lift - Alpen quad lift - Kurobishi Number 2 quad lift - Skyline Number 2 pair lift - Kita one quad Planned course openings: - Panorama course - Usagidaira course - Kurobishi course - Skyline Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall: - Summit: 5cm - Base: 5cm Official snow depth: - Top: 130cm - Base: 30cm Planned lift & course openings: - All scheduled lifts open (Line D usually only opens when the gondola is not operating) - All but a few small areas of official runs are open - Tree Riding Zones closed Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: - Upper: 2cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 130cm - Toomi: 60cm Planned lift operations: - Telecabin gondola - Alps Number 1 pair lift - Alps Number 3 pair lift - Toomi quad Planned course openings: - Panorama course - Grand Prix - Technical - Super - Champion Dynamic - Woody - Toomi Tsugaike Mountain Resort Reported snowfall: - Upper: - Official snow depth: - Upper: 160cm - Lower: 50cm Hakuba Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Sunday 19th December 2021 Total snowfall at base so far 82cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 10 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 36cm (18th December) November 2021 snowfall 29cm reported on 4 days December 2021 snowfall 53cm reported on 6 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba.
