- Naeba Now: Sunday 9th February 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 41cm Snowfall at base this season 749cm Posted on Sunday 9th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba. The storm continued heavily yesterday, bringing a fresh 41 cm of snow. It's still snowing, and the wind is strong again, so currently, only two lifts are open: Lift 4 and High-Speed 5 at the bottom. This has led to large crowds queuing around both. The Kagura and Tashiro areas have been closed all day due to wind and heavy snowfall. Let's hope the storm eases soon so more lifts can open! This current cold snowy front is due to ease off over the next few days with Wednesday currently expected to be warmer and sunny. But there's more snow beyond then, so the fresh conditions should continue. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 391cm Posted on Sunday 9th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Good Morning Skiers & Boarders, There was nothing significant to report yesterday. A far cry from today where about an hour ago, it started looking like a snow globe out there. It just warms the old cockles of my heart. It's the way winter should be, and we just haven't had enough of those days this year. I've been getting reports of pebbles, branches, and other odd organic matter spontaneously sprouting in the middle of some runs in the super high traffic areas. Unacceptable, right? I agree. I've tried calling the Customer Service line at Mother Nature Inc. to let her know, but so far no answer. I think she's been vacationing in Hakuba this year. Anyway, hang tight. Supposed to snow off/on the rest of the day. There might be some good news tomorrow morning. Think snow. * Furano Zone Lift B (aka Furano Quad) is closed for the season due to mechanical failure. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Kind of an early report today (going skiing!), so most of the resorts still haven’t reported. I could go off on a rant here, such as, isn’t 8am a little late to get out important news needed by our readers to make a decision on their sliding destination? I say yes. Nice snow out there, but a lot of it, and the avalanche warnings are out. Lighter snow this morning, too, so the danger of sluffs on the denser stuff below is also higher. And the wind is forecast to pick up, so maybe stay on the slopes and hone those skills. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Tons more snow since yesterday. Wind is complicating things re: trying to say how much snow there has been - in some places you'll see huge amounts piled up; in others not as much. Early morning (3am) Yakebitaiyama was reporting 55cm of snow - there's going to be a fair bit more than that by now as it has been snowing a lot since that measurement was made. Okushiga Kogen reported 50+cm a few hours ago. Would be great if other ski areas published a number each day, but, alas... Some lifts still affected by weather stuff including the top lifts at Happo-one and Tsugaike. Goryu is still 'preparing' lifts, too. Hopefully we have seen the peak of the windy conditions and it will be calmer. When is this snow going to stop? Well, it looks like we can expect more cm of snow today and tomorrow with a higher chance of clearer skies around Tuesday and Wednesday. And then a chance of heavy snow again going into Thursday. Hakuba Happo-one has this morning broken through 6m (official) snow depth and on the Hakuba Valley website, that ski area is showing 1073cm of total snowfall for the season (as of 7th February).
