I'm measuring 25cm which is actually more than what the ski area is reporting this morning (20cm). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 28cm Snowfall at base this season 287cm Posted on Saturday 3rd January 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . A nice snowfall overnight, and cold temperatures. Conditions on the hill got better throughout the day yesterday as light snow continued to fall. There are still a lot of bare spots out there, though, so we can always use more—and we still haven’t seen the big dumps that are forecast pretty regularly. I did hear that it was snowing and blowing much harder down in Joetsu City and along the coast. Fresh reports are in from all the resorts, which is a good thing to see! I was kind of surprised, though, at the relatively low number of skiers and boarders out yesterday. Normally Jan. 1 is a bit quiet (the effect of all those Eve parties), but then people usually feel peppy enough for a Jan. 2 slide. Maybe the word of low snow has discouraged the domestic travelers. Nice to not have lift lines, but better if the resorts are doing good business. --- Akakura Kanko: 140cm, -7° Akakura Onsen: 140cm, -4° Alpen Blick Resort 90cm, -2° (new report!) Hakuba Cortina wins the 'most reported snowfall' of the day with it's claim of 15-20cm up top. No number from Tsugaike this morning. Other ski areas to the south in Hakuba village - including Happo, 47 and Goryu - are reporting 5cm. It is still snowing this morning but it might ease off, and tomorrow we will probably get some sun. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Hello from Madarao. A little more snow since yesterday, but nothing significant... not the kind that gave us new cm. I hope to be able to bring snowier news tomorrow morning. As I'm putting this report together, there is a bit of a break in the mostly cloudy skies and the sun peeking through. (And more blue sky over on the Tangram side by the looks). But we do expect more snow. That Number 1C lift is still down due to some kind of mechanical problem, and may be down for a while. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 259cm Posted on Friday 2nd January 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Getting this out a bit early today, because I need to get out on the hill! Just a little more snow overnight, but welcome. There are still a lot of icy and brown spots on the hill, so more snow is good snow (but I would always say that anyway). Nice and cold today, too, which does help the quality of the snow (and of the skier; it was pretty wet during the morning hours yesterday). I keep seeing predictions of 70cm along this part of the Japan Sea coast on the national news, but I’m not sure when that’s going to hit. The best forecast sites are kind of all over the place, depending on which prediction model is being used. It would be great to have a massive, traffic-stopping dump of snow.
