- Myoko Now: Wednesday 25th March 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1088cm Posted on Wednesday 25th March 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Gray today, with a pretty steady southwest wind taking out more snow (the wind really does it...). Looks like rain later this afternoon and maybe all the way until Friday. Maybe the rain will get the tree buds starting to open—as long as it’s spring we might as well see the change of seasons! And that is part of the fun of mountain life here. We do get a pretty good amount of rain in the summer, so you have to embrace it. Not so sure on the kosa the dust masses starting in China, Mongolia and Kazakstan and traveling all the way here. It’s a fine dust that comes from desert regions in these countries, including the dried-up Aral Sea, which doesn’t sound good, but also which contains a lot of nasty pollutants (sulfur, heavy metals, soot, and more). All I know here is that, looking toward Mt. Myoko and the sun around 3pm yesterday, the mountains were obscured and the whole sky was white. Maybe the rain will help wash out the sky for us. -- Akakura Kanko: 190cm, 3° Champion No. 3 lift closed Now officially in spring season (reduced rates); hoping to stay open until May 6 Akakura Onsen: 200cm, 3° Kumado Nos. 1 and 4 lifts only Closing March 29 Alpen Blick Resort 135cm, 4° (Monday’s report) Closing March 29 Myoko Suginohara: 80cm top, 30cm base; -1° Gondola, Mitahara No. 2 only Closing March 29 Kyukamura RunRun: Closed Seki Onsen: No data Closed on weekdays (except March 30, 31); hoping to stay open until April 12 Tangram Madarao Tokyu Resort: 50cm, 5° Lifts Nos. 1, 3, 5 Closing March 29 Madarao Mountain Resort: 120cm, 3° Lifts Nos. 1, 2, 3, Super Quad Lotte Arai Resort: 349cm, 5° Some runs may close due to avalanche possibility. - Niseko Now: Tuesday 24th March 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 873cm Good morning from Niseko. It's a brighter morning, and a bit bluer too, with a hazy look especially looking over to Mt Yotei. Talking of which, I did get to play a bit of that 'Ghost of Yotei' game. Very pretty, but it all seems a bit too complicated and time-consuming to me. And I couldn't find my house. Clearly it wasn't around in the early Edo period. And neither were the ski lifts and fancy condos. Slightly disappointing. Getting back on topic, here's a new exciting 'feature' for my report in this final stretch: The following lifts are now closed: Hirafu: Ace Number 3 pair, Ace Number 4 pair Village: Morino Chair Annupuri: Jumbo Number 2 pair, Jumbo Number 3 pair (Those lifts not operating does not affect open terrain). ------------------------------------ Niseko Avalanche Report Mountain base: -2°C, clear. Moiwa 800m: -1.8°C, NNW 5.0m/s. Annupuri 1100m: -3.5°C, NNW 3.9m/s. Niseko Village 1000m: -2.6°C, N 6.6m/s. Hirafu Hanazono 1000m: -4.0°C, N 10.8m/s. Hanazono 800m: -2.5°C, NNE 2.7m/s. Sea of Japan Benkei Cape: light winds. Kamui Cape: ENE 4m/s, 1018hPa, wave height unknown. Clear skies within a high-pressure system, though north winds are relatively strong in high elevation. With no new snowfall, snowdrifts or significant wind-slab development, the risk of surface avalanches is low. All gates are scheduled to open; follow the instructions of the ski patrol. On open 40-degree slopes around 1200m that have frozen, avalanches caused by crust failure are likely to occur. Use caution. Snowmelt will progress during the day. Be alert for full-depth avalanches in Moiwa Bowl at 800m, the lower sections of the Backbowl West Ridge, and the Goshiki Onsen side of the West Ridge. To avoid accidents, do not stay at the bottom of gullies. Cross creeks and dangerous zones one person at a time with wide intervals. Do not ski in strictly prohibited areas. ------------------------------------ Niseko HANAZONO Resort Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 285cm (-2cm change since yesterday) Base: 170cm (no change since yesterday) Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 350cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 90cm (no change since yesterday) Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------ Niseko Village Ski Resort Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 253cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 144cm (no change since yesterday) Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 270cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 120cm (-10cm change since yesterday) Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------------------------ Niseko Moiwa has a planned closing date of Sunday 5th April. - Niseko Now: Monday 23rd March 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 873cm Good morning from Niseko. It's a bit of a grey morning here and feeling rather mild. Evening 'nighta' is now over for the season and we enter 'the last bit'. A few lifts are now closed (Ace 3 and 4 at Hirafu and Morino chair at Village), but does not affect available terrain. Can the two ski areas (that usually remain open until then) remain open until 6th May as planned? Well, Hirafu is still showing 350cm up top (though 90cm at base), so that is actually pretty impressive. Unless it warms up like crazy, I'd say probably yes. But we'll just have to wait and see and find out. ------------------------------------ Niseko Avalanche Report Mountain base: +1℃, frozen. Moiwa 800m: -0.6℃, SSE2.9m/s. Annupuri 1100m: -3.9℃, SW3.4m/s. Niseko Village 1000m: -2.6℃, SSW4.5m/s. Hirafu Hanazono 1000m: -2.8℃, N1.0m/s. Hanazono 800: 0.1℃, NNE6.7m/s. Sea of Japan Benkei cape: South 4m/s, Kamui cape: SW16m/s, 1014hPa, wave height unknown. The wind is strong at Kamui cape and around 1200m elevation. No snowfall has been observed. All gates are scheduled to open. Please follow the ski patrol’s instructions. The out of bounds areas are outside the ski resort boundaries. Beware of the following points: Stay away from the gully bottoms to prevent being caught in glide avalanches, do not stimulate the cornices, traversing under cornices could trigger an avalanche. Cracks are difficult to see from above, if you fall head first on a snowboard you may not be able to self rescue. Never go out of bounds alone. Carry a beacon (transceiver), you may be able to save somebody’s life. The creeks are starting to open and the meltwater is freezing cold. Carry a short rope in case of a fall. The mountain is transitioning to Spring, however it can return to Winter anytime. Have a great day. ------------------------------------ Niseko HANAZONO Resort Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 287cm (-8cm change since yesterday) Base: 170cm (-10cm change since yesterday) Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 10cm Base: 10cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 350cm (-5cm change since yesterday) Base: 90cm (no change since yesterday) Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------ Niseko Village Ski Resort Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 253cm (-4cm change since yesterday) Base: 144cm (-4cm change since yesterday) Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 10cm Base: 10cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 270cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 130cm (no change since yesterday) Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------------------------ Niseko Moiwa has a planned closing date of Sunday 5th April. While completely ignoring the recent nice weather, it does mean cheaper lift tickets and a revised lift operation schedule beginning today. The weather today is a bit gray and windy, not exactly pleasant, but hey, you do you. Yesterday was the last day of operations for the Kitanomine Zone. The Furano Zone half of the mountain will continue operation thru the end of Golden Week, depending on the weather. Lift Notes: Lift operations are a standardized 9-4. The snow escalator has magically been repaired. The Furano Quad (Lift B) has been closed for the season. - Niseko Now: Sunday 22nd March 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 873cm Good morning from Niseko. Lots of cloud around this morning with some limited blue sky. Not as windy this morning, thankfully, and lifts should be opening as planned this morning. Today is the last night of evening skiing. (See what I did there?). ------------------------------------ Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa base 6am: -1℃, no new snow. Moiwa 800m: -2.8℃, WNW2.4m/s. Annupuri 1100m: -4.5℃, WSW5.2m/s. Village 1000m: -3.6℃, SW3.0m/s. Hirafu Hanazono 1000m: -4.1℃, N4.2m/s. Hanazono 800m: –1.0℃, NNE2.8m/s. Coastal data: Benkei Cape WNW9m/s, Kamui Cape SW13m/s, 1020hPa, wave n/a. All peak gates are expected to be open. The snow accumulation from the blizzard two days ago has consolidated and stabilized over time, reducing the risk of surface avalanches. However, cracks are present in some areas. Avoid being in the bottom of gullies and valleys to decrease the risk of getting caught in a full-depth avalanche. The BCA beacon checker at the gates only responds to beacons. Smartphones, lift tickets, credit cards, and Recco cannot be used. Cracks are hidden by fresh snow and are often not visible from above. Falling into one headfirst is dangerous. Never ski in the restricted areas designated by Niseko Rules: Harunotaki, Yunosawa and Anbetsu Valley, or the closed area Mizunosawa. In Yunosawa, a Russian boy was caught in an avalanche from the side wall at this time of year. He was not found until June. Carrying an avalanche beacon is strongly recommended in Niseko. It can save the lives of your companions. Respect the rules. ------------------------------------ Niseko HANAZONO Resort Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 0cm Base: 0cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 295cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 180cm (-5cm change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Gondola until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 10cm Base: 10cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 355cm (-5cm change since yesterday) Base: 90cm (-5cm change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Ace Gondola, Ace Family quad, King Gondola and King Holiday pair until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------ Niseko Village Ski Resort Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 257cm (-8cm change since yesterday) Base: 148cm (+2cm change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Upper Village Gondola, Village Express and Banzai Chair until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 10cm Base: 10cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 270cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 130cm (no change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Jumbo Number 1 quad until 7:30pm Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------------------------ Niseko Moiwa has a planned closing date of Sunday 5th April. - Niseko Now: Saturday 21st March 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 873cm Good morning from Niseko. We have some more fresh snow, and it is quite cold. After this overnight snow and some strong blowy winds, it's great to see a fresh layer out there with ski areas reporting up 10-15cm on the mountain. Sounds good, and it is certainly a very nice bonus for the weekend. It felt really windy when I was outside a while ago, and the wind blowing the snow around means it's a bit hard to pin down a number this morning. I have 5cm at my trusted spot. It's still windy but at least visibility is pretty good with some blue sky and sun. At the start of the day, at least top lifts are on hold. The Hirafu gondolas and Hanazono gondola appears to be opening and operating at reduced speed. Village and Annupuri gondolas are on hold. Take care out there. (Even Niseko Village is reporting some fresh snow this morning, 4-5cm, taking their season total reported snowfall up to about 50cm or maybe 40cm!!! I wish I had kept a tally!) ------------------------------------ Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa base 6am: -5℃, stormy, snowdrift development. Moiwa 800m: -7.2℃, NNW17.6m/s, major cornice and snowdrift development. Annupuri 1100m: -10.3℃, W9.6m/s. Village 1000m: -8.6℃, NNW8.7m/s. Hirafu Hanazono 1000m: -9.8℃, N10.7m/s. Hanazono 800m: -6.4℃, NNE8.3m/s. Coastal data: Benkei Cape NNW15m/s, Kamui Cape NW13m/s, 1012hPa, wave n/a. At around midnight the wind direction changed, with continuing heavy blizzard conditions above 800m. There is also significant ongoing cornice and snowdrift development. From observations and data, the avalanche risk today is VERY HIGH. All gates will be closed. Caution is also needed on all the surrounding mountains as well. Accidents tend to occur during bad weather. The risk will continue until the snowdrifts stabilize. It is best to avoid leeward valleys today, and wait until the wind drops to at least 10 m/s or less. Blizzards create heavy snow that is prone to avalanches. Are you familiar with weak line breaks? I strongly recommend carrying a beacon. It can give you the ability to save your teammates. ------------------------------------ Niseko HANAZONO Resort Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 10cm Base: 10cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 295cm (+5cm change since yesterday) Base: 185cm (+15cm change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Gondola until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 10cm Base: 10cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 360cm (+5cm change since yesterday) Base: 95cm (+5cm change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Ace Gondola, Ace Family quad, King Gondola and King Holiday pair until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------ Niseko Village Ski Resort Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 265cm (+4cm change since yesterday) Base: 146cm (+5cm change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Upper Village Gondola, Village Express and Banzai Chair until 7:00pm Planned last day of the season: Sunday 12th April ------------------ Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Official 24 hours snowfall (reported by the ski area): Peak: 10cm Base: 10cm Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 270cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 130cm (no change since yesterday) Planned night lift operations: Jumbo Number 1 quad until 7:30pm Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------------------------ Niseko Moiwa has a planned closing date of Sunday 5th April.
