Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 10cm
Snowfall at base this season 166cm

Posted on Wednesday 5th February 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

Snow is falling this morning.

8cm from yesterday and another 2cm this morning down at base, and surely more than that higher up on the mountain.

Official sources currently show most lifts are open and so the wind and snow isn't affecting things too much.

Friday should be good especially if we get some decent snow through today and perhaps into tomorrow, as there are clearer skies forecast.

All lifts are now normally operating apart from the following:

- Zao Paradise Number 3 pair

- Diamond Number 1 pair

- Astraea Number 3 pair

- Onsen Number 4 quad

- Karamatsu pair

- Yokokura Number 2 pair

- All courses are either part open or fully open

Official snow depths (as reported by resort):

- Summit area: 85cm

- Paradise area: 80cm

- Chuo area: 90cm

- Utopia area: 100cm

- Uwanodai area: 40cm

- Oomori area: 25cm
