My apologies for not updating the page yesterday. But things should be ok from now on.

So yes, Zao is now open. We have the Chuo No1 pair lift operating and that's about it. (The Ropeways are operating but that is for sightseeing and not for skiing or snowboarding).

Chuo is reporting 30cm of snow on the slopes and so as you can see it is all very limited.

Yesterday saw some stormy conditions on the mountain but we got about 10cm or so of fresh in the village so hopefully more than that higher up.

Things are looking good for snow over the next week and come the weekend perhaps the first heavy snowfall of the season. It's going to get very cold and windy with the snow as well - look out for some particularly strong winds tomorrow and over the weekend as well.

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Zao Onsen. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
