Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 105cm

Posted on Thursday 29th December 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

Morning from Zao.

For the moment and while we had a bit more since my report, no fresh overnight. It is a calm morning here. Fairly cold, no wind, cloudy with decent visibility.

There should be snow falling later today though and hopefully tomorrow too.

Conditions were much improved on the slopes yesterday though I'm happy to report... we just want more, more, more!

The Light Up operations are planned for tonight but I'm finding it almost impossible to find out if that is going to be happening or not. And I'm looking at all of the official Japanese information too. Hard to believe that they make it so difficult to find out basic stuff like this... /rant!

Update: OK I have found it - apparently, going ahead as planned!

On the subject of nighta by the way - open at Uwanodai (Onsen Number 1 pair lift); closed on the Yokokura area.

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Zao Onsen. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
