Hello and welcome back to Zao Now for the 2013-2014 snow season. Let's hope it's an wonderfully snowy one.

It is a lovely morning here with some cloud but lots of blue cloud as well and the sun out. More importantly, from this morning part of the higher Chuo and Utopia areas were opened up to skiers and boarders for the first day of the season here. The ski lifts (outside of the Gondolas and Ropeways) that are operating this morning are the Chuo Number 1 Pair and the Utopia Number 1 Pair lifts. All quite limited still but good to be able to welcome the new season.

We will probably enjoy this clearer weather for the weekend with some wild conditions likely around Tuesday and hopefully mid week snow will be falling, looking to perhaps more of the resort opening up.

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Zao Onsen. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
