Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 268cm

Posted on Monday 20th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

Light snow on and off I said yesterday. Well, yes, snow... and strong winds at time. It was blowing a gale at times, and it even stopped the ski jump competition at times over at the jump-dai.

Less wild conditions this morning though it remains cloudy. Keeping cold and no new snow to report since yesterday though there was the snow that fell yesterday which I will note below.

Variable conditions forecast over the next few days, snow showers at times. We can expect warmer temperatures at the end of the week, hopefully won't rise too high.

Official snow depths:

Utopia: 230cm

Chuo: 185cm

Paradise: 225cm

Uwanodai: 135cm

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Zao Onsen. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
