Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata
New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 281cm
Posted on Thursday 17th January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.
It is back to grey and cloudy this morning and snow is falling on the mountain. There isn't much to report since my report yesterday but hopefully we are entering another stretch of snowy weather conditions that will deliver - perhaps Saturday aside - with heavy snow due around Sunday and early in the week.
The official snow depths are still keeping pretty low.
We could be doing with some heavy and consistent snow to get those numbers and excitement levels up.
Operation info from official sources:
- All lifts operating apart from Karamatsu pair and Yokokura Number 2 pair
- All courses open
Official snow depths (as reported by resort):
- Summit area: 100cm
- Paradise area: 130cm
- Chuo area: 130cm
- Utopia area: 100cm
- Uwanodai area: 90cm
- Oomori area: 100cm
